Threat against Sen. Marco Rubio under investigation, his office says
Miami Herald ^ | 04/25/2012

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is the target of a threat deemed credible enough to merit police protection in Washington, D.C., and at his home in West Miami, his office said late Tuesday.

The freshman senator rocketed to national political stardom in recent weeks as he jumped to the top of the shortlist of potential running mates for presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. From CNN to The Daily Show, Rubio has become a staple of cable-news chatter about whether Romney will offer him the spot — and whether he would take it.

But the fame has made him not just a magnet for support and criticism, but now the target of a threat.

Rubio’s office said no additional information about the threat would be released for now. The U.S. Capitol Police and the West Miami Police Department are providing security and investigating.

Neither agency could be reached for an official comment.

A police cruiser was parked in front of Rubio’s West Miami home Tuesday night. The senator was not home; he is scheduled to deliver a foreign policy speech Wednesday at the Brookings Institution in Washington.

If Rubio became Romney’s running mate, he would receive around-the-clock protection from the U.S. Secret Service.

Yep. I was also surprised to find out he had converted to Mormonism in his teenage years, but changed his religion when the family moved to Florida.

I wonder if he will go back to being a Mormon now.

Yeah but who’s going to guard him while they’re making whoopee?

“The idea that latinos are one big happy family and will all vote for each other is a story that only the idiots running the GOP believe...”

You are correct. There are many divisions among them. I personally know a good number who are quite conservative. There are also those who liked Obama at first but who are very unhappy with him now.

I have noticed a difference also regarding where in the U.S. these Hispanics are found. La Raza has been most active historically in California and in the western states and a bit in the Chicago area. You can thank the Chicano Movement and community activist (think Marxism primarily) professors on university campuses for that.

Marco Rubio certainly does NOT espouse the radical goals of La Raza. To a very great extent, I admire what Rubio stands for. He IS amazingly articulate in both English and Spanish, seems to have a good spiritual base, and he LOVES this nation and understands the principles of freedom on which it is based.

The influx of illegals (there ARE Latinos who have come here legally) occurred not just because of those who are Open Borders fanatics. In a sense, we are all responsible because our businesses were happy to get them, people liked hard-working gardeners, construction workers, and housekeepers, etc. It’s been going on for years.

That's interesting. Do you have a source for that?

...someone from the Obama team will raise the issue, therefor disqualifying themselves.

That's exactly why the Dems will NOT raise the issue. By letting another ineligible candidate onto the ballot, it further soldifies a precedent for ignoring the national security provision of the Constitution that requires NBC status.

Rubio will not get the nod anyway. It will be a governor.

Are you sure? Maybe Romney is smarter than we all give him credit for and he will choose Ron Paul.

I have finally come to that conclusion, too, after believing for months he was a shoo-in, regardless of the primary winner. The ethnic advantage will likely take a back seat to experience, and well it should.

Having said that, I would love to see Col Allen West in the running. Unfortunately, that will not happen.

I agree wholeheartedly, Pelham.

This sell out by the GOP, which began in earnest in 2004, has left me with a lingering cynicism about the party's future.

I believe this fully explains the conspiracy of silence by both major political parties surrounding Obama's eligibility problem. Marco Rubio (as well as Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley) has a similar issue. The pubbies think the Obama presidency makes it a moot point.

Ok, read the thread and this wasn’t mentioned...

Has anyone considered that a death threat against Rubio could come from a similar source as death threats against Zimmerman?

The hispanic vs black connection?
