You know youre running a lousy presidential campaign when you get bitten by a penguin.
Newt Gingrich, still in the race only because a deep-pocket casino magnate is funding his pathetic run, was campaigning last week for the zoo-animal vote in St. Louis on a private tour, of course and got nipped by a Magellanic penguin. Oh, if only hed taken a jaunt through Big Cat Country or fed the crocodiles in the Herpetarium: Perhaps wed all be out of our misery now.
The Newts presidential campaign has got to be one of the worst ever run in American history (someone should ask the deep-thoughts historian to pontificate on that one). So lets roll it all up in a ball, shall we, and take a look......

There is a "joyful-spittle" tone in this editorial that trots out all the anti-Newt talking points with great relish.
An earlier hit-piece this same guy did on Newt.
Substitute The GOP Base for Newt Gingrich .
JANUARY 15, 2012 - CURL: Goodbye, Newt, and good riddance "Anyone who knows Newt Gingrich knows that Newt Gingrich is and always has been all about Newt Gingrich. Newt Gingrich doesnt give a damn about the Republican Party. And Newt Gingrich sure doesnt care about ousting President Obama, unless hes doing the ousting. If Newt Gingrich cant be the nominee, then Newt Gingrich will burn the whole place to the ground.
And thats just what hes done since plunging in the polls. Furious over the TV ads the pro-Romney super PAC ran against him in Iowa, Mr. Gingrich abandoned his pledge not to speak ill of his fellow Republicans and struck out on a course to destroy the Republican front-runner."....

"ATLANTA It wasn't so long ago that the Republican Party in Georgia was just an afterthought, and Democrats were in firm control of all the levers of state government. Back then, Newt Gingrich and other die-hard GOP stalwarts ventured across the state with the far-fetched message that Republicans could reverse the tide.
Now with commanding majorities in the Statehouse and control of all statewide offices, Gingrich is hoping his vision for how the GOP could overcome decades of Democratic dominance in Georgia will pay dividends. He sorely needs a victory when his home state votes Tuesday, along with a big chunk of its 76 delegates, to prove his stumbling presidential bid has staying power.
Many Republican figures in Georgia still credit him with championing conservative policies, outlining a framework for what a GOP majority in the state could accomplish and broadcasting talking points to a generation of up-and-coming conservative leaders. He's also applauded for lobbying conservative Democrats, like then-Rep. Nathan Deal, to switch parties.
"Everyone else was trying to lose as slowly as possible, and to die with dignity at the Alamo. He was talking confidently that the Republican majority in Georgia, in the South and nationally was right around the corner," said Ralph Reed, a veteran Georgia GOP operative who founded the national Faith and Freedom Coalition. "On the one hand it was crazy, but on the other it was just the most exciting thing you've ever heard.".....................In Ga., Gingrich helped build conservative base
Newt Gingrich of Georgia and Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald throw mock tea crates into the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, Ga., in 1994.
Its amazing how every leftist rag writer in the country wants Newt gone. THAY FEAR A BROKERED GOP CONVENTION.
The country is NOT Romnified the way the left wants, and MAN, they do have a bad case of the jitters.
STAY IN NEWT!
then Newt Gingrich will burn the whole place to the ground. ...AHHH. A refreshing thought, for once. GO NEWT!
Pretty sure McCain and Dukakis ran worse campaigns.

April 22, 2012: Newt defiantly hangs tough in GOP race "With 21 campaign events scheduled this week, persistent Republican hopeful Newt Gingrich does not appear willing to appease those who want him out of the presidential race. With wife Callista, Mr. Gingrich embarks on intensely local appearances in Delaware and North Carolina: hell frequent regional GOP luncheons, visit a library, an azalea festival and elementary schools. Hell throw out the first pitch at a Gardner-Webb University baseball game and brave an appearance at the North Carolina Zoo which has puffins but no penguins. The candidate was nipped by the latter last week during a zoo appearance; but that is history.
Mr. Gingrich continues to bill himself as the last conservative standing, and he remains standing as Tuesdays five primaries loom, continually reminding the press of his local endorsements from the likes of former first lady of the National Rifle Association Ingrid Sigler, and in Delaware, chairman Bill Sahm of the Northern New Castle County GOP; plus Hans Reigle, chairman of the Kent County Republican Party.
I previously endorsed Gov. [Mitt] Romney, but since then, Newt is the only candidate who has shown a willingness to meet and talk with Delaware voters for more than an hour, Mr. Reigle observes."
Sure, his climb from 20% to 30% is significant ~ he got a 50% increase over the last 5 years, but 30% doesn't put boots on the ground when it comes to running a campaign against the entire Democrat party.
I don't think Romney is electable.
Guy seriously dislikes Newt, doesn’t he?
A badge of honor for Newt.
Wonder what he will write when Willie Mitty gets bitten by dogs...
and quite deserved I might add...
DOGS FOR NEWT
I would say the Dole campaign was the worst, though it is hard to rate the worst.
A badge of honor for Newt.
When the histrionics get this freaky, you know there is more at stake than just writing a nice column for a newspaper.
I smell some serious fear here. And you know what? I like it.
I do not want Newt to give up. I do not want a coronation at the convention. Romney has not convinced me he has what it takes, and I am not going to be convinced by anything he says between now and the convention so he might as well stop trying.
I want a knock-down, drag-out, no-holds-barred, bare-knuckled SLUGFEST at the convention, and I want the RINOs to lose some teeth.
Someone needs to wipe the smug off their faces. I can practically hear them chortling with glee at the way they used the primaries so far to outflank the Conservatives and ensure that their chosen suit gets the nod.
To heck with that!
Stay in Newt! The Cocktail Party set needs to learn a lesson this time around.
I wonder if Romney know he is being set up to take the fall? I honestly think he is clueless....
Heck No. Rick Perry had 40% of the vote, and like a 25% lead when he announced, and we all know how that turned out. His meltdown was legendary.
It would be tough to out bad the Bob Dole campaign from 1996.
Real conservatives who dont just pay lip service to the idea of pledging our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to ensure a BETTER hope than the change the RINO congress presented, then caved on. (Remember the $100 Billion in Boehner budget cuts after the 2010 Tea Party election?).
Sorry. Two years after the height of the Tea Party influence, the RINOs and complicit (and lazy) conservative media have come close to locking it up to compromise captivity if not outright killing it.
If we dont coalesce around Newt Gingrich and stop Romney, Karl Rove will become the head of the GOP. Mitch McConnell will be the new Harry Reid. And the minute the media and libs scream about any conservative legislation, Mitt and his RINO mutts will compromise just like Bob Dole tried to do to Reagan.
Only this time there wont be any Newt Gingrichs to stop them.
And RomneyCare will not be totally repealed after screams of insensitivity by centrists.
DOMA will be too divisive to address.
And no one will do anything but keep trying to patch short term solutions to entitlements while the number of Americans receiving Federal handouts slips over the 50% mark.".....................
June 2005 White House correspondent during the Bush Administration -- and apparently like Brit Hume, a Romney booster.
But it was Bob Dole's turn.......
