WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New claims for unemployment benefits rose last week to their highest level since January, a development that could raise fears the labor market recovery was stalling after job creation slowed in March.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 380,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The prior week's figure was revised up to 367,000 from the previously reported 357,000.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims falling to 355,000 last week.

The four-week moving average for new claims, considered a better measure of labor market trends, rose 4,250 to 368,500.

The claims data comes in the wake of Friday's disappointing employment report for March, which showed the economy created 120,000 new jobs, the smallest amount since October.

Simple analysis of the jobs situation. A lot of companies cleared the books for three years of as much labor as they could to survive. 2012 budgets included a couple new hires, and did not account for new layoffs. Now, 2012 is settling in, and the economy is still on life support. Hiring is slowing and some companies are now letting people go again as the numbers look worse than expected.

yup, sony announce 10,000 lay offs, Yahoo cutting 15% of staff, banks slashing to hell, if the big companies are slashing to ribbons then you can be guaranteed, the small companies cannot afford the staff either and its only going to get worse.

Excellent idea! Finally, a way hussein and his cohorts in crime can actually stimulate the economy. (obviously an accident, they'd never do this intentionally) Every time he or one of his evil minions utters an idiotic statement we all get a sip of our favorite libation.

unexpectedly - drink
let me be clear - drink
um, ah - drink
anything regarding the Chevy Volt - drink
anything regarding Israel - drink
anything regarding border security - drink
anything regarding unions - drink (maybe a double)
anything regarding his alleged successes - drink (down the remainder)
anytime you see one of those idiotic anti-oil campaign ads of his - drink

You get the idea. I'm sure in no time we can stimulate the alcohol industry, and by extension the makers of asprin and/or ibuprofin. ;-)

Naw, hussein was scowling at him ‘cause he just realized the Easter Bunny was going to be unemployed for another year after just one day of work, and thus back on the rolls, hurting the percentages. ;-)

Their revisions are fairly large every week now it seems. Their lies are catching up with them.

Four dollar gas is about to cut you off at the knees, Barry.
Whether you care to admit that or not.

Be sure to thank the Sierra Club on your way out of the White House in January.

You reap what you sow, and the more Obama threatens the top 1%, the more chips they take off the table. Unemployment will continue to spiral out of control until the Moron-in Chief is removed from office.

Last week, someone posted an article that stated there were 56 upward revisions during the past 57 weeks.

It's now 57 of 58...I'd call that a "trend".

You’re right. Americans love to drive, period. All the GOP candidate has to do is remind people what the price of a gallon of gas was when hussein took office. Then remind them of drilling moratoriums, EPA regs, Keystone pipeline, green energy scandals... So long hussein.

I expect that the big multinationals are moving more jobs and positions out of the country for many reasons I imagine, the biggest is to shield the companies assets away from confiscatory taxation they see coming down the pike at them.

On the other hand the Book “The Hunger Games” is beginning to look more and more prophetic as the days go by under this Regime.

How many times does something have to happen before it is no longer unexpected? The economic prognosticators in this administration are an exceptionally slow-witted bunch.
