How can it go to a second ballot if only Mitt and Rick are eligible on the first ballot?

I think that Mittens still has to get the 14 hundred some odd votes and delegates are usually bound on the first ballot. I'm not sure though. It's a mess. Thank you RNC for screwing us again.

Newt doesn’t know what he is talking about here. There will be only the people with delegates involved in nomination and as per the GOP cConvention rules, one has to win 5 states to be even considered for nomination. That leaves Rick and Milt. There is no mechanism in the rules for dudes and dudettes rolling in there without winning states and delegates to win the nomination.

http://www.gop.com/images/legal/2008_RULES_Adopted.pdf

Newt keeps citing these old Conventions for proof that it can be done today. First off, we didn’t have binding Primaries until the last 40 years. Prior to that, the Grandees in the Party nominated people in smoke filled back rooms. Binding Primary contests mean something. They can’t be disregarded or the whole system would collapse.

Can someone show me how with the apparatus the GOPe set up that Newts idea could be achieved. I don’t see it. Even if the Convention fell into chaos, guess who makes the final decisions. The GOPe. Guess who they are going to pick. Milt.

I don’t know what Sarah could offer the convention in way of dealing. Her “constituency” is to the right of the Right Wing, who are the ones who are interested in fiscal issues and Obamacare nearly exclusively.

Whereas Newt and others will have a 100 point 50 day plan that is reasoned, detailed and understood to the letter.

Sarah has continued to avoid even tutorials nevermind hiring the brains to compose a multi-solutions driven plan of consequence that she can understand.

Even those of us who admire her beauty and prose have to say there has been no revelation that she has made any effort to become a student of anyone of consequence, beyond her small staff of advisors and soundbite writers.

With Newt, yes, she would be a player and seems to admire his grasp of world history, politics and broad experience in all things having to do with accomplishment and leadership.

In this dangerous era, nothing short of Newt will quite cut the mustard.

This is not a drill.

Someone already showed me an article saying how if Newt doesn't win 5 states, all the delegates he did win become unbound. Therefore he will not only have to sway delegates from other states to demonstrate support from 5 states, but also to hold onto the ones who were supposed to be bound to him by the vote. But, if he can't sway 5 states through backroom deals before the first vote, then only Romney and Santorum will be eligible on the first vote. Therefore, it will never get to a third vote. One of them will win.

The only plausible scenario that still remains I think is for Newt and Rick's delegates to outnumber Romney's and Paul's by the time voting is over in June. That way, Santorum can win on the first vote since Newt's delegates will become unbound, IF they go to Rick. The only way to make that happen is for Rick to announce Newt as his V.P. Like I've said before, they really have to do that V.P. deal NOW in order to make sure they don't split the vote and lose to Romney in states because of that. They also have to win big in states that turn into winner-take-all when a winning candidate gets over 50%, a number that would be tough to reach with 4 guys staying in the race, although Santorum did hit it in Kansas, and walked away with 33 out of 40 delegates.

Very few upcoming states are pure proportional distribution. The winner gets a very lopsided share of delegates. So coming in 2nd and 3rd behind Romney and combining delegates later is never going to get them enough delegates to outnumber Romney's.

Also Sarah fan.

Heard former L.A. KFI radio talk show host John Ziegler, talk at a luncheon the other day.

You may know he did a positive film on Sarah: “Media Malpractice...How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted.”, was a supporter, but has changed his mind a bit.
Still agrees with the nasty hand she was dealt, gives her credit on some levels, but is a bit soured now.

I almost threw a (unbuttered) roll at him!

He has a ‘great’ conclusion why Romney will be the GOP candidate. . . and will beat Obama because of all the twists and turns that will happen, or some such. The big thing is ‘doing the math,’ of course.

Somehow I think Ziegler has some fellow talk show host enemies. . .

Don’t know how to post anything here, so ‘Google’ Ziegler if you wish.

Was Newt spiking at the time Sarah announced that she would not seek the nomination?

Please people do some research. There is already way more than enough BS being flung this Election.

I honestly don't know how Newt did early on. After Sarah announced she wasn't running I didn't pay much attention until voting actually started.

I think Sarah hasn't endorsed Newt because she knew Obama would turn all of his venom on her and ignore all of the actual candidates.

I think one thing we are missing here is the slight possibility that she and Newt would run third party. Newt and Sarah didn't abandon the GOP. The GOP abandoned them and it wouldn't shock me if they turned the tables on them and ran as a ticket in a third party.

There is a group that has been getting an unnamed candidate on the ballet in all 50 states. I don't know who the group is but I assume it is a democrat operation hoping to do a Perot to split the republican vote.

If Mitt is the nominee I hope they do it. I really think they would end up winning. Obama would get the 30% die hard far left, Mitt would get the mushy middle, and Newt/Sarah would get the true conservatives which I believe outnumber the other 2 groups. They would also have all of the excitement and would guarantee a huge turn out. Not only that but they would really be able to run against the "do nothing" congress from both sides which everyone is sick of.

Like I sad, it may be wishful thinking but it wouldn't surprise me if they did it and used the convention to announce it.

Sorry - clarifying:

How Romney will be the GOP nominee: “do the math.”

Along with being an all-around fan of Sarah, also a Gingrich fan.

I’m starting to think that Sarah and Newt have a plan, or, maybe, have had a plan all along.

From your keyboard to God's ears.

A Gingrich/Palin ticket would unite the party...with the exception of those already in DC.

The grassroots would be very happy with that "compromise".

There won’t be a brokered convention. Romney will prevail. Even if there were a brokered convention who do you think would run it? They will put a RINO in there. Conservatives couldn’t even unite behind a conservative candidate which split the vote. So I see no way they would prevail in a brokered convention. Wishful thinking.

Newt is my only choice at this point.

Newt in his own words told you he expects to finish third, don't you believe him? He even expects that someone else will emerge at the convention, he really didn’t sound all that confident that he would be drafted.

Newt should now drop out of Winner take all states because he can't possibly do anything except give those delegates to Romney. That is the only strategy that could deny Romney the delegates he needs.

Get over it, just like all us Palin supporters, had to.

I guess Fox thinks we are not aware they are in the tank for Romney.

How dare you say that I heard O’Reilly himself tells us we were idiots if we thought that FOX was rooting for Romney.

Kind of makes you wonder why we’re running Romney as our “front-runner,” now, doesn’t it.

Not if by "we" you mean the Quisling Gerry Ford country club branch of the GOP, who might have a slight preference for Romney over The Won, but who undoubtedly feel more in common with Zero than with ANY conservative, candidate or voter.
