Gingrich Says He Will Stay in Race and Stop Romney
NYT ^ | 3/20/12 | Shear

Posted on 03/20/2012 8:11:05 PM PDT by VinL

Newt Gingrich said Tuesday night that “phase one” for himself and Rick Santorum in the days ahead must be stopping Mitt Romney from getting enough delegates to claim the Republican presidential nomination.

Having skipped campaigning in Illinois and faced with mounting campaign debts, Mr. Gingrich said on Fox News that he was staying in the race because he believes voters would choose him as the nominee after rejecting Mr. Romney.

If Mr. Romney fails to get the 1,144 delegates he needs to wrap up the nomination, Mr. Gingrich said that “then we’ll have a real conversation about who can best beat Barack Obama.”

Mr. Gingrich said that he believes voters would turn to him as the best person to debate Mr. Obama in the fall. He said his repeated discussion about the need to produce more energy in the United States was putting Mr. Obama on the defensive.

“If the key is who can stand here and take him on head to head, I think I’m proving it every day,” Mr. Gingrich said. “He is losing this argument over expensive gasoline.”

Santorum is from my state and I'll not move over to Santorum anymore than I would Romney for neither will stand against Obama's machine....not a chance.

Newt's the only candidate that is the whole package this country needs....and frankly I could care less what people want....it's about what this country needs. They choose to remain blinded that's their choice...I won't be signing my name to the downfall of this nation.

Newt did not campaign in Illinois. He is saving his ammo for later? Strategic thinking!

It may not happen.

But maybe the rest of us should get a chance to vote for who we would like to for a change.

Contrary to popular belief, it won’t hurt anything.

If there is anyone “delusional” about staying in the race it is Ron Paul! It is still a three man race, and many states have yet to make their choice!

Folks are asking questions and getting answers! Listen here:

Everybody should drop out of the race except your guy, eh?

If Newt did drop out, Santorum wouldn't get even half his supporters.

My guy? I don't have a guy in this race, but Santorum is the closest thing to the universe of conservative that's left. Besides him, there's a full-blown liberal and a CFR globalist.

You are so full of crap.

Full of crap? About what--my NOT wanting the flaming liberal Mitt Romney to get the nomination?!

By the way, thanks for your valuable, articulate, and highly intelligent addition to the conversation.

Oh good grief....lighten up already! The fat lady hasn’t sung her tune yet ....Convention here we come!!!!!

I wish I could lighten up, but as it is, I see Mitt Romney being shoved down our throats, and it makes me gag. I have no hope for the convention. I'm afraid the "powers that be" will designate our nominee, whether we want him or not.

-who talks this way- you said> alien. retarded.

It appears you did not understand what I said. If you read my comment to #10, you would see the context of "alien retard" is "lil' Martian connected at the hip to Mitt."

Your statement that "sinners are not welcome..." also shows your lack of understanding, perhaps a willing one, though.

but Newt is hanging in there like a bad odor, refusing to step aside to give the closest thing we have to a conservative--Santorum--half a chance.

Then why doesn't Santorum beat Romney is the states where Newt has backed off and not campaigned...like last night?

I feel Newt would step down if he thought doing so would stop Romney. It's been pretty clear that Rick can't beat the Mitt Money on his own because he's not doing it.
