Gingrich Says He Will Stay in Race and Stop Romney
NYT ^ | 3/20/12 | Shear

Posted on 03/20/2012 8:11:05 PM PDT by VinL

Newt Gingrich said Tuesday night that “phase one” for himself and Rick Santorum in the days ahead must be stopping Mitt Romney from getting enough delegates to claim the Republican presidential nomination.

Having skipped campaigning in Illinois and faced with mounting campaign debts, Mr. Gingrich said on Fox News that he was staying in the race because he believes voters would choose him as the nominee after rejecting Mr. Romney.

If Mr. Romney fails to get the 1,144 delegates he needs to wrap up the nomination, Mr. Gingrich said that “then we’ll have a real conversation about who can best beat Barack Obama.”

Mr. Gingrich said that he believes voters would turn to him as the best person to debate Mr. Obama in the fall. He said his repeated discussion about the need to produce more energy in the United States was putting Mr. Obama on the defensive.

“If the key is who can stand here and take him on head to head, I think I’m proving it every day,” Mr. Gingrich said. “He is losing this argument over expensive gasoline.”

Thank you so much. Puts a real face on things to know what your thinking comes to of a real conservative (not the Bush kind).

Yeah right... you get that straight from the Lil’ Martian connected at the hip to Mitt?

What?! I get that from my own observation. Mitt Romney is a liberal, and I can't stand the thought of him getting the nomination, but Newt is hanging in there like a bad odor, refusing to step aside to give the closest thing we have to a conservative--Santorum--half a chance. Newt is splitting the conservative vote! It does not take an alien RETARD to see that!

Newt doesn’t have that much power. He is the lame duck right now and his supporters can make up their own minds whether or not they want to switch to Santorum...and hopefully, they ARE doing that in droves at this point...

Actually it was Santorum (not Newt) who endorsed Mitt Romney during (not a general election but) a republican primary. Nuff Said

Thanks, Drudge. Santorum was not running for president in the primaries or the general in 2008.

Mary, it’s not that Newt has “power” so much as he has supporters who vote. If he were out, the two-man race might be tighter. I’m for Santorum, of course, even though he was not originally my choice.

-> Santorum—half a chance. Newt is splitting the conservative vote!
-who talks this way- you said> alien. retarded.

If Mr big government pro union Rick was a true conservative, he would not be in the news tonight having his top campaign adviser begging for Newt supporters and for Newt, to come over to campaign to their side. Wait a minute-if he was all that, Newt would not even matter. Sinners are not welcome on Rick’s team. Got it.

Hi Christie, this is Cindyofnashville. I believe you and I are kindred spirits. I believe Newt has a good chance at the convention, if God isn't too pissed off at America. If He is really pissed, then either Romney or Santorum will end up the nominee. God sent us an answer to our country's problems, and so many people are too stupid to see it is Newt.

Wasn’t Newt a commentator on Fox before his run?

(And Governor Perry is still governor and gets plenty of press time.)

The media said from the get go that they were giving Santorum the ride....and they did.

And Newt stood back and let him ride....Ricks never done it on his own...always waiting til a "real" leader makes the next wave for him....been that way his whole career.

I hope Newt stays the course all the way to convention and doesn't side with Santorum......if Newt doesn't and sides with Santorum...well then at least I can enjoy the summer without thinking about politics..... because at this juncture we loose with either Santorum or Romney.

BTW...This isn't the only time Rick's gone begging to Newt...he is so not the real deal... and has many people fooled beyond measure.!

Disgusting isn't it.....last chance to save this country and they're voting like the Republicans in Congress....more of the same old crap as before.....so I don't want to hear the bellyaching when Santorum or Romney seat Obama again. They'll get exactly what they asked for if this doesn't go to convention.......

Newt may be the best one to debate Obama in the fall...but Obama also knows that. If Newt is the nominee, there won’t be any Presidential debates. The media will “tut, tut” for a day and then forget about it (like they did in 2008 when he broke his word about relying on public financing of the campaign).
