Poll: Gingrich on top in Mississippi

(CNN) – Newt Gingrich is edging out his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination in Mississippi, according to a new poll.

The American Research Group survey of likely Republican primary voters released Friday showed Gingrich with 35% support, followed by Mitt Romney with 31%, Rick Santorum with 20% and Ron Paul with 7%.

Gingrich's margin over Romney increased slightly among those who said they will definitely vote in the March 13 primary, 37% to 30%. Santorum garnered 17% support and Paul received 5% among the same group.

The poll was conducted after Super Tuesday, when each of the GOP White House contenders picked up delegates. Romney won the popular vote in six states, while Santorum captured three and Gingrich nabbed one, his native Georgia.

Despite calls for him to bow out of the race, Gingrich has said he will remain in the contest until the convention and has also stressed the importance of wins in Mississippi and Alabama, which both vote on Tuesday.

There is a huge difference between our founders’ vision of a Christ-informed populace participating in self governance and a policy of trying to run the entire (federalist) nation from Washington DC, to obey the dictates of a city-state located on a boot-shaped peninsula of Europe.

Newt Gingrich is pro-life and pro-marriage. So is Santorum. Gingrich wants to aggressively defend America from Agenda 21, plus audit The Fed and act upon what information is attained. Santorum is wobbly on this and is a ‘team player.’ Which is more moral?

Quit spreading this lie. You sound like a liberal democrat.

What you want people to believe is that despite the results of the state, you think unpledged/soft delegates will go AGAINST the will of the people in that state and support the guy who finished DEAD LAST?

Keep dreaming. Santorum leads Gingrich in delegates and you know it. Spinning it the way you are is a liberal tactic.

From his website, Newt plans to:

1. Stop the 2013 tax increases to promote stability in the economy. Job creation improved after Congress extended tax relief for two years in December. We should make the rates permanent.

2. Make the United States the most desirable location for new business investment through a bold series of tax cuts, including:
Eliminating the capital gains tax to make American entrepreneurs more competitive against those in other countries; Dramatically reducing the corporate income tax (among highest in the world) to 12.5%; Allowing for 100% expensing of new equipment to spur innovation and American manufacturing;
Ending the death tax permanently.

3. Move toward an optional flat tax of 15% that would allow Americans the freedom to choose to file their taxes on a postcard, saving hundreds of billions in unnecessary costs each year. This optional flat tax system will preserve deductions on charitable giving and home ownership, and create a new personal deduction of $12,000 for every American. This deduction is well above the current poverty level, ensuring that this new system does not unfairly target the poor.

4. Strengthen the dollar by returning to the Reagan-era monetary policies that stopped runaway inflation and reforming the Federal Reserve to promote transparency.

5. Remove obstacles to job creation imposed by destructive and ineffective regulations, programs and bureaucracies. Steps include: Repealing the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which did nothing to prevent the financial crisis and is holding companies back from making new investments in the U.S;
Repealing the Community Reinvestment Act, the abuse of which helped cause the financial crisis;
Repealing the Dodd-Frank Law which is killing small independent banks, crippling loans to small businesses and crippling home sales;
Breaking up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, moving their smaller successors off government guarantees and into the free market;
Replacing the Environmental Protection Agency with an Environmental Solutions Agency that works collaboratively with local government and industry to achieve better results;
and Modernizing the Food and Drug Administration to get lifesaving medicines and technologies to patients faster.

6. Implement an American energy policy that removes obstacles to responsible energy development and creates jobs in the United States.

7. Balance the budget by growing the economy, controlling spending, implementing money saving reforms, and replacing destructive policies and regulatory agencies with new approaches.

8. Repeal and replace Obamacare with a pro-jobs, pro-responsibility health plan that puts doctors and patients in charge of health decisions instead of bureaucrats.

9. Fundamental reform of entitlement programs with the advice and help of the American people. Read an extended white paper on this here:

Newt is genius, the elites play right into his hand.

He'll have to have some pretty big hands. No wonder he wants us to be #withNewt instead of just for him.

Soft delegates are not going to switch. They are going to vote as designated as long their candidate is still in the race. C’mon, you’re better than this. It’s baloney.

“you think unpledged/soft delegates will go AGAINST the will of the people in that state”

It isnt the will of anyone. They are “unpledged/soft delegates” for a reason. Maybe you ought to think about that rather than emotionally blow up at people...like what liberals do.

What you "know" just isn't so. Unpledged are unpledged for a reason. The only delegates that can truly be counted upon are the pledged ones.

Stop spreading lies for Santorum. Misinformation and outright lies seems to be what his supporters are best to cover up for him flailing around destroying his own 10 point leads against Romney and being too inept to actually collect delegates he's earned because of a lacking organization.

See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil ... nothing is ever Santorum's fault.

I’d say that Rass Mississippi poll shows Santo still hemorrhaging, which started about 7 days before Super Tuesday.

Christian values are a big part of but not all that matters to me. Rick Santorum’s voting record on Socially Conservative issues is at best no better than Newt’s then there is the matter of “Fiscally Conservate” issues. Then there would be the ability to articulate what is needed to fix America and to clearly define issues and solutions and the difference in the socialist and Conservative principles and ideas. Newt will take the fight to obama ans will beat him. The difference is being in Presidential, not wanting to denigrate Rick but I’ve heard him described as an “over zealous hall monitor” and I belive that is how he will come across and be portrayed. Social Conservative issues are important to me but that is not all that’s on the table. We need an extrodinary individual for these times and I can’t think of any, anywhere better suited for the task ahead than Newt Gringrich whether they are in the race or not. Below are some of thr reasons I’m for Newt.

Newt Gingrich, an Extroidinary Man for These Extrodinary Times

Newt Gingrich is a Historian, he loves this country and understands our Constitution, our system of government and the sacrifices made by patriots to create it, and the importance of maintaining it. He knows how government works and how it should work. He is intelligent, educated, and has common sense. He has been in the public eye for thirty five years and has made public controversial decisions, he has cast over 7200 votes, made over 15,000 speeches, written twenty four books. His voting record has been consistantly “Conservative” whether you are speaking in terms of “Social”, “Fiscal” or anything else, Newt Gingrich is “THE CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE.” His original “Contract with America” led to CONSERVATIVE Republicans taking the US House of Representatives and appears to be the basis for the modern day Tea Party. Under his leadership as Speaker of the House the Republican Congress produced four consecutive balanced budgets, welfare reform, strengthened our national defense and intelligence. The CBO had forecast a deficet for ten years of 2.5 trillion dollars when he was elected Speaker and four years later the ten year forecast was for a surplus of 2.5 trillion dollars for a turnaround of 5 trillion dollars. They cut taxes and unemployment dropped to 4.2%. President Clinton talks of his administration having balanced budgets, surplus, and welfare reform, that’s true but it was thrust upon him by Newt and the Republican Congress. Spending and earmarks dropped as soon as Newt became Speaker and both remained low during his tenure as Speaker and skyrocketed as soon as he left the Speaker’s position. Those who didn’t want him keeping government spending under control, the Republican establishment, are the ones who are now attacking him and trying to stop his return to Washington. Republicans should be apologizing to Newt for squandering the bounty he brought to the country instead of attacking him. I believe this is Newt’s time. America is in trouble and needs an advocate, Newt Gingrich is that advocate.

YOU can call it baloney but it's the hard facts.

The only delegates they can be sure of are the pledged delegates.

St. Santorum supporters don't have the facts so they're pounding the table.

This is encouraging news for Newt's campaign. I hope he can maintain and rack up a victory or two next Tuesday.

At this point the strategy is one of "keep away," of siphoning delegates away from Romney. Neither Newt or Santorum should get out. I believe the time where that would've been effective to outright beat Romney is over.

Newt is by far the most important voice in this race.

Newt was closing fast in Tenn in the last couple of days. Check the exit polls.

Had it not been for all the Early voting I am convinced Newt would have won Tennessee.

He is doing what he need to do. Pounding the streets in MS and AL with his message of smaller government and his energy policy.

Lord give him Strength and Courage to complete his journey.
