ATLANTA
A new poll conducted for Channel 2 Action News shows Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich with a double-digit lead in Georgia.
The Landmark/Rosetta Stone poll of 1,300 voters was conducted on Feb. 23, less than two weeks before the state presidential primary.
Gingrich increased his lead slightly since a poll conducted earlier in February, receiving 38 percent of the vote. Rick Santorum received 25 percent, Mitt Romney 19 percent and Ron Paul 4 percent in the poll.
Numbers were similar when broken down by men and women. The number of undecided voters remains at 13 percent before the March 6 primary.
"That essentially says they're not right now in Newt Gingrich's camp so they're either going to break for Rick Santorum or Mitt Romney," said Channel 2 political analyst Bill Crane.
Crane told Channel 2 political reporter Lori Geary that Gingrich is also polling well in Tennessee but he doesn't see him winning any other states on Super Tuesday.
"There are 10. So, win two, lose eight; the delegate math is not good," Crane said.
Crane told Geary he expects Romney to have momentum after primaries in Michigan and Arizona, but Santorum continues to do well among conservatives.
"He will carry evangelical voters and that's roughly 62 percent of declared Republicans in Georgia," Crane said.
Poll results show Gingrich picked up voters outside metro Atlanta since the last Landmark/Rosetta Stone poll. Romney has added voters in metro Atlanta but Santorum has seen a slight decline. Paul's numbers remain unchanged across the state.

NEWT NEWT NEWT
Go Newt!!
An up-to-date poll that reflects the recent happenings. Not some smelly and stale old polls being pushed by someone we know. :-)
That’s absolutely right, red. And so, I don’t think it’s either premature or inappropriate at this point to say that Rick should drop out—
you know, Rick, time to take one for the team. -:)
LoL.
This makes me happy. Note additionally that this is no rinky-dink poll; its sample size is 1,300, all polled just yesterday. Note also that on a national level, Gingrich is the only candidate who has gained points over the past week, per the Gallup poll (see the chart at the bottom):

Now 16 is obviously not a great place to be nationally, but hopefully theres the beginning of trend here, as over the past week Gingrich has gained 3 (13 to 16), Santorum has lost 2 (35 to 33), and Romney has lost 2 (29 to 27.)
With Gingrich now is a somewhat safer position in Georgia, hell have more time to focus on other Super Tuesday states such as Tennessee & Oklahoma, for a solid finish on March 6th.
Percent 2-24 2-09 Gingrich 38 35 Santorum 25 26 Romney 19 16 Paul 4 5
How are Newts numbers in AZ and MI? I believe those contests are in a few days. Is Newts strategy to win GA and then get the state to secede, becoming the new country of Georgia's President? BTW, Newt is at 8% in MI and 16% in AZ. What a Mittens killer.
You’re getting whinny and sensitive, much like Santorum. It was a joke comment you’re freaking out about.
Don’t want to read too much into 1 poll- but yesterday, I noted in his interview wt erikson- that for the 1st time- Newt called Ga a “must win” -which made me think he believes that he has it secured—
Then, later that night, he changed tactics. He attacked Romney. “Combative Newt is Back”

May not mean anything, but perhaps he’s gaining some traction in the South- hopefully.
What they could do is not attack each other, but focus solely on taking out Mittens, and, as Cain had once put it, "let the American public decide which of the two will take the top of the ticket."
Flame away if you'd like...what other options are there?
exactly my point... of course if I have it my way Newt would join Rick’s Team.. but I think they need to make it clear that Rick/Newt votes combined outnumber Mitt/Ron...
Not very comforting. Isn't that his home state? Gotta have more than that.
That would certainly be better for Newt and Rick to team up than for Rick to be coerced into an unholy alliance with Romney, as was being rumoured by some PA. GOP E insiders.
Ricks supporters are largely Not Romney folks. Any combo with Mitt would be lower than low.
It will be interesting to see how things look after Super Tuesday.
For now, I am thanking the Lord for Georgia!
You see— here I am- never said 1 negative thing about Rick or any candidate (other than Romney) - never trolled another candidates threads, ever-— and I make one obviously light-hearted comment on a Newt thread — and you get affronted.
Note to Rick guys— you’re in the lead (for now)— enjoy and chill—
[It’s obvious the “Not Mitts” are a majority, and they fall fairly evenly between Santorum and Gingrich. I think the two should combine forces. ]
If Santorum had half a brain he’d negotiate to be Newt’s vp and pick up a potential 16 years cause he is young enough.
Go Gingrich! He’s on Levin—now!
