Washington Post political writer Melinda Henneberger shockingly stated, Wednesday, that "maybe the Founders were wrong" to guarantee religious liberty. Henneberger appeared on Hardball to discuss the Obama administration's decision to force the Catholic Church to provide birth control in health care.
Discussing the battle between the left and those who see it as a threat to the First Amendment, she declared, " Maybe the Founders were wrong to guarantee free exercise of religion in the First Amendment but that is what they did and I don't think we have to choose here. " Henneberger's awkward comment came as she attempted to defend the Catholic Church. [See video below. MP3 audio here.]
If O. could do so, he would try to figure out a way to totally trash the First Amendment. He would do a Henry the 8th and try to setup a one-size-fits-all, state-run “Department of Religion.” ALL churches - Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Holy Roller....whatever - would be required to register with the govt in order to be allowed to EXIST, to hold services, to preach, to teach, to set up their organizations, and to hire and fire personnel. All religious expression in the U.S would be micro-managed from Washington. Those who refused would be subjected to huge fines and/or imprisonment. It would be the ultimate power trip and he would love it. People who deny this possibility are living in la-la land.
When Madison submitted the Bill of Rights to the House he put freedom of the religion alone in his 3rd amendment. Freedom of press and the rest of the modern 1st were lumped in his 4th amendment. His 2nd amendment, regarding congressional pay took nearly 2 centuries to ratify and his 1st, regarding the size of the House, remains unratified but in play. So by the rankings from the Framers we get to shut down the Compost before they get to shut down religion.
I saw that segment on Hardball.
I came out with the sentiment that rare indeed is the Gin and Tonic that this woman has passed unscathed.
I realize my reply is going to go hard against the grain of everyone reading it, but the time is going to come (too late) when Christians and Jews realize that the guarantee of “free exercise” of Islam to Muslims in the West became the vector that facilitated Islam’s ultimate triumph over The West ..
My opinion, mine only...
Well Melinda, maybe the Founders were wrong to guarantee a right to abortion...oh wait, they didn't.

Wow. They still have the ability to shock me.
That is a seriously ironic thought coming in a thread where progressivism, eugenics, and Margret Sanger were mentioned.
Substitute “Blacks” for “Liberals” and you agree 100%.
I think you should reassess your opinion.
Apparently she missed out on the history lessons of religious purges in Europe and elsewhere and does not bother to read the news today of Islamist massacres of the lowly kufir Jews, Christians, and Buddhists who do not accept Mohamhead as their godhead.
The Soviet Communists were right to fear religious believers. Brought down the Evil Empire in the end. HA HA! Atheist Socialists lose! Personal liberty wins.
Liberalism is a mental disorder, but it isn’t a birth condition.
Red doper diaper babyhoods are child abuse.
Do you think neo-nazis should be encouraged to breed and indoctrinate their children in toxic ideology and hate?
Perhaps the Founders were also wrong about protecting Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press, as well...
...and to think that she gets paid for such twaddle...who did she sleep with to get that job, anyway?
argh...slow response on the “post” button...
No Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party), no rats.
Sounds like that line was thrown in to placate her Pro-Kill friends, but still a fundamentally egregious suggestion.
Maybe the Founders were wrong about religious freedom.
Maybe pigs will fly, too.
And, arguably, not only can pigs learn to write, the Post will hire them.
May she rot in hell.
“Liberals shouldnt be allowed to breed.
Dont know how much clearer I can be.”
That line of thought leads to really bad places.
However, one can remove the franchise of Liberals based on the clear and unambiguous reality that any acts/belief systems which encourage or advocate unconstitutional behavior
is seditious.
Let Liberals pay taxes, but do not let them vote.
PS Don’t let them hold office.
Then there was that little jerk Washington Post editorial writer Charles Lane on the Fox panel tonight, with his typical last minute parting shot - “we still have to look at the fact that the Catholic Church can’t tell the federal government how to spend its money” (hint, Charles, they can when the government is trying to spend the money to prohibit the free exercise of religion - read the First Amendment some time when you’re not running your mouth).......
Religious freedom was the reason the first settlers traveled across the dangerous Atlantic to build lives in the New World.WTH is wrong with the writer ignoring this?
Hey Melinda Henneberger, one of the major reasons folks made the harrowing trip to the “new land” was to seek religious freedom.
YOU DOPE.
Course you gots to be an ignorant as you work for the Washington post.
