OKLAHOMA CITY An amendment that would ban Oklahoma courts from considering international or Islamic law discriminates against religions and a Muslim community leader has the right to challenge its constitutionality, a federal appeals court said Tuesday.
The court in Denver upheld U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange's order blocking implementation of the amendment shortly after it was approved by 70 percent of Oklahoma voters in November 2010.
Muneer Awad, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Oklahoma, sued to block the law from taking effect, arguing that the Save Our State Amendment violated his First Amendment rights.
The amendment read, in part: "The courts shall not look to the legal precepts of other nations or cultures. Specifically, the courts shall not consider international law or Sharia law."

Judges are simply politically successful lawyers, and therefore will rise to the top of Shakespeare’s list when the time comes.
Separation of Church and State.
I guess they just meant Separation of Christianity and State.
Moonie A Wad?
That’s about churches firing ministers...?
I think what they want is to use Islam to destroy our Constitution, the infatuation of the leftists with Islam is IMO a case of having a mean dog that will bark and bite for you.
Tap tap tap tap tap. Waiting for that time.
Oh, a Holder’s people. Natch. And a “she”.
It wasn’t just a law passed by the legislature. It was a State Question, which is actually an amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution, voted on by the people in a statewide race.
“Why do judges rule this country? Id like to know.”
This is just the sort of thing that Newt was making points about, and he was crucified by the media and many “conservatives” for it.
Oklahoma needs to get some good lawyers to reword this amendment to get around CAIR’s tactics. I know they could.
“because nobody ever told them no”
Again, not to belabor the point, but Newt was on the right track where that’s concerned.
If they do not want laws that discriminate against a religion they must disallow laws against terrorism since that is an important part of some folks’ religion.
“Most judges are just as bad as most lawyers these days.”
They ARE lawyers. At least, they were lawyers first for many years.
“Only U.S. laws, state and federal laws that are consistant with the U.S. Constitution, are applicable in court decisions.”
There you go, that’s good! It needs to include laws at all levels, from federal on down to local.
Sharia law is “religious” law - shouldn’t that alone be enough to justify keeping it out of our courtrooms???
Judge Matheson was appointed by Barack Hussein Obama II —should any doubt how he/she/it would rule on any case involving CAIR or the Muslim Brotherhood -or Shariah Law?
The Judge named LaGrange was appointed by Bill Clinton.
Elections have consequences and it is the President and the ruling class that appoint and rubberstamp Judges. The Constitution provides a remedy for judges that rule contrary to the Constitution they are sworn to defend—but then we the people have allowed Judges pretend it is they and not the terms used in any written law/constitution with any any right to say what it means.
Dont hold your breath— Chief Justice Roberts has “complete confidence” in his Court. He willnot even ask Kagan to recuse herself on ObamaCare. Why should the Court explain itself to any peeon.
Strangely enough, Shariah Law does not recognize the authority of the Federal Court in Denver.
Therefore, Shariah Law has rendered that court’s decision to strike down Oklahoma’s law “null and void”.
Therefore, the law is valid and Shariah Law may NOT be employed in Oklahoma....
Therefore...
Okay, they nullify each other. Both crossed out! Sounds good to me.
