Newt Gingrich’s surge to the top of the GOP presidential race has given him a nine-percent lead over long-time frontrunner Mitt Romney.

In the first national scientific public opinion poll since Gingrich garnered a key New Hampshire newspaper endorsement, likely 2012 Republican primary and caucus voters favored Gingrich over Romney by a 32%-23% margin, with Herman Cain at 14%, Ron Paul at 6%, Rick Perry 5%, Michele Bachmann 4%, Jon Huntsman 3%, someone else at 4%, and no opinion at 11%

Accuracy is important. If you call a piece supporting your positions a "story," you've given the impression that your positions are in alignment with facts, lending more weight to your positions than they deserve. All this woman has done is write an opinion piece...the kind of piece any pro-Cain, anti-Newt blogger could put together in 20 minutes...and you have agreed with it, calling it "spot on"...who cares? You agree with somebody's opinion? What kind of support is that for your position? "I agree with Jane Doe?"

You're either sloppy or disingenuous.

You’re still here rambling on that I said “story” instead of opinion? If it mattered I would care.

It doesn't matter to idiots.

Non-idiots prefer accuracy.

“Detractors know people are too lazy to read an 11 step plan, so they just throw the “amnesty” lable on it, in hopes of moving support to some loser.”

Yes, some people don’t listen or read, and have a knee jerk reaction and that’s the end of their comprehension.

Next up is huntsman. He is a dead ender who only nyc effetes like.

If you forgot, they already tried selling this loser already before he announced. He was the one the Regime was really afraid of. No one bought the spin. Even he would be better than Mittens. At least Flunksman has a fairly decent economic plan that is understandable. Too bad the rest of his ideas stink on ice.

Not hard to see many posters now to Newt’s threads clearly don’t like or want Newt regardless of the arguements and clarity given. More like lets doggy pile this one...and then the next etc. etc. etc.

It’s really disgusting coming here anymore. I am about an inch from wrapping it up until civil discourse returns.

Don’t worry about it. As soon as we nominate someone (except Mitt God forbid) everyone on FR will be cheering them on against’ the Obamination.

“Incidentally I don’t agree with you, after a daily barrage of Newt’s past, which is not the least bit pretty independents and the majority of women will be so turned off to Newt.......”

Oh, you mean the same “women and independents” that voted for Bill Clinton won’t vote for Newt?

Not buying that line of thinking. Ultimately, the people are going to vote for the person they think most likely to get the job done in Washington. Newt has a sordid personal life behind him, but he is by far the most experienced and seasoned candidate. After years of non-leadership by the Kenyan Boy POTUS, Newt will be welcomed.

Newt is flawed, but he is still the best overall pick of serious GOP contenders.

Well I hope so because the stuff in here is thick...and more than boot-high anymore.

The primary election can't get here soon enough for me...I want to enjoy people here once again.

The liberal media gives those obvious flaws a big pass when it's their own. With Gingrich it will be spewed with venom daily with all the talk and comedy shows playing it up.

You see what they did to Palin? It was very unfair in comparison because they won't have to make anything up about Newt like Russia is across the street remarks, he's given them all the ammunition they need.

This has been going on for as long as I can remember. They tried with Reagan but he was too popular while Carter wasn't so much.

We don't have to deport 11 million people. They will self deport if we enforce the laws and remove the incentives that allow them to remain here

This "we have to deport 11 million people" is a false argument and a straw man created by Newt and other phonies who in reality want these people to stay in the United States.

And I counter your false assumption that the majority of the people in America support the position advanced by Newt and others with this: Do you believe in enforcement of American laws? Americans DO believe in the rule of law and reject the attempts by Newt and others to pick and choose what laws people should obey

I ask you: am I allowed to pick and choose what traffic laws I want to obey? So why should illegal aliens be allowed to pick and choose what laws they must obey? Can you answer that?

“With Gingrich it will be spewed with venom daily with all the talk and comedy shows playing it up.”

No matter who the GOP candidate is, they are going to do this. They will slaughter Romney as well.

Newt is the only one that can go head to head with Obama on any topic in a debate and clean his clock without working up a sweat. Romney is a statue, not a debater.

Newt is the best (or least bad if you prefer) choice and the most balanced of the candidates. I’m not happy saying this, but it is glaringly obvious to me...and I’m a social/morale conservative.

That’s very simplistic.. Ok.. What if someone owns a home here? Do we take it away? How about a business? You want our government to start doing that? We are talking about a specific group of illegals.

Yes me too. I’m ready to vote.

Me as well..but I think there are still many who are not.

It's a comfortable thing when you know you've looked at a candidate from all angles and determined with that where the country is, what it will look to be in these next years...both nationally and internationally....and who best "fits" the entire picture of what this country needs first and foremost...and you make your deision based on that rather than who you might "like" better.

Once I got my mind focused on the country that helped greatly for we are in such dire straits and that's not going to change any time soon..in fact may well get worse in the next years...who best can handle that makes a difference in how you see these candidates. IMO no other besides Newt has his plans in hand and ready for the job.

I am confident in my choice...and I haven't had that since this whole thing began. It's a great feeling you know you're choice is the best for the country.

Do you recall how the media treated Gingrich in the 1990s? It was brutal and it worked. He was one of the most disliked politicians of that time. As I said earlier I’d rather focus on his policy positions and that’s where I disagree with him but the media will be attacking him relentlessly and it will be done in a personal way, count on it.

I can relate to what you said in your post...especially since I hadn't even considered Newt before the debates much at all. I thought he was finished early on. But I wasn't happy with the slate we had much to speak of and as they spoke I grew less enthused save for Newt. He made sense...and even stepped up to lead the climate of the debates.

Bottom line I think 'God is calibrating our decision' as we look to him and view each candidate... though we might not want to go that direction initially He has a way of assuring us it's the right way to go.

So why should illegal aliens be allowed to pick and choose what laws they must obey? Can you answer that?

We are all free to break laws or keep them...illegals choose to break immigration laws for whatever motive which moved them to do so.

The choice ahead will be they either qualify to become legal...without citizenship as the penality for breaking our law...and a fine...as well be employed and other requirments to support themslelves here...(which will drive off a majority of them on the welfare rolls)...or you return to your nation to the end of the line for citizenship. (deportation).

By the time the legals make it thru the process to become that the vast majority will have left this country leaving far less then we've had in years here....and the border will be secure and employeers will not be able to hire them without very stiff penalities..perhaps even jail if they do.

Jukeman...don't be too hard on those willing to write-in a name just yet...I too thought that because I was so discouraged by the slate of candidates. Not becuae they don't each have their own strengths..but because none of them were strong enough to take on the Obma 'machine'...which includes the media as well as others who will take pot shots even of our own party.

In the debates Newt, who I thought was done, stepped right out and lead the tempo which the debates should have had in the first place...he took it out of the media's hands and called them on it, and that was not without risk he surely took into consideration. But I think he trusts the American people more than perhaps most do...that they will in time understand and see what he is trying to do and accomplish for this country...Big Plans and Ideas...and those which the country's been battling without wins for a long time. Newt challenges us to look at the nation and ourselves...what our country is and what it has become under the communist/progressive agenda...and what it needs to become again.... He's calling them out as well.

I'm up for the battles ahead when there is one in the lead who not only wants to fight but has the tools to do it with...and the knowledge to run them effectively. That's Newt and I'm behind him.. but it took me awhile to look at Newt and research his history and where he is today before I could reach this dicision....up til then I too would have written in some one elses name.
