Newt Gingrich’s surge to the top of the GOP presidential race has given him a nine-percent lead over long-time frontrunner Mitt Romney.

In the first national scientific public opinion poll since Gingrich garnered a key New Hampshire newspaper endorsement, likely 2012 Republican primary and caucus voters favored Gingrich over Romney by a 32%-23% margin, with Herman Cain at 14%, Ron Paul at 6%, Rick Perry 5%, Michele Bachmann 4%, Jon Huntsman 3%, someone else at 4%, and no opinion at 11%

Thanks for your comments. Well taken by me. I like the wealth of knowledge Newt possesses. I don’t agree with him on all issues and in fifty years of voting I’ve never agreed entirely with any one candidate. Defeat Obama.

You are right ... Gingrich was no liberal by Reagan standards, he was the most conservative Speaker of the House in history.

American voters will not accept amnesty. BTW, Gingrich does not advocate amnesty.

No wonder it didn’t make sense to you. Only the left wants us to think Gingrich is for amnesty. And you did... for a while.

Newt...”Immigration reform can be outlined as a complete proposal but has to be passed in a series of steps, with each one understood and passed on its own merits.”

“Under no circumstance can a path to citizenship be created which would allow those who have broken the law to receive precedence over those who patiently waited to become residents and citizens via the legal process. Those who adhered to our immigration law cannot be usurped by those who violated it.”

Gingrich's record has been posted here a million times, from his support of global warming to gun control to eroding American sovereignty.

You want four more years of Obama? Then nominate Newt Gingrich.

Well, I am looking at what he did as Speaker, and we have never had a Speaker that was more Conservative, and nobody has ever gotten a more Conservative agenda passed. If you want to go on actual records, Gingrich was to the right of Reagan. Now, I realize there is a large camp here that hates him for whatever reason, but NOBODY in this race can match his actual record of accomplishments for conservatives.

Under Gingrich's plan an illegal alien would be rewarded for eluding apprehension until the time came for him to "step out of the so called shadows".

He, the illegal would be forgiven for all the years he remained underground and illegal in this country. Please tell me how that forgiveness does not constitute amnesty.

"Defeat Obama. Yes..and Newt will do just!"

How? With all the baggage Newt is carrying the Obama machine will tear him apart. Fooling with Newt is suicide.

Ok....tell me which politicians or candidates don't have baggage...none..so no argument.

What I do know is Newt's baggage hasn't been hidden...it's right out there and we all know what it is..it's there for any to research to find out truth or falsehood about. But one will also discover Newt's family, church, friends, former supporters and God have forgiven him. So do I.

I have not taken my support for Newt or any other candidate along the way lightly,... this election matters not only for conservatism.....but more importantly for our country's overall security. If that goes as it's headed now it won't matter who is a conservative or liberal.

Newt fully understands the Islamic threat and if people think the Hispanics coming here are a problem they haven't seen anything once the muslim masses rise their ugly heads.

Newt's already targeting ridding Washington of all the Czars on day one....first thing he's going after the strongholds... He's also going to secure the border and deal with the illegals....those two alone will free up revenues at all levels I doubt we can appreciate fully.

I'm talking about securing our nation overall and Newt is determined this is a priority and he is right. There's not an American who stand with Newt on that....

Obama wants to do just the opposite...weaken and continue to weaken our nation....it's a no brain-er Newt can take him on and the nation will support him doing so.

I'm not at all concerned over anything the Obama Machine might say about Newt....what history he has isn't going to mean a hill of beans in the big picture of what he brings to the table favorable to conservatives...and our nations security.

Rather my concerns are what Republicans will try to do to take out Newt...just as we see o these threads. After all it is said we shoot at our own...and we do.

Because from the immigration definition of amnesty it means citizenship is also given...that is not what Newt’s plan entails.

They have to have a job...they will be fined.. they have to learn English...and they will not have citizenship if they accept being “legal”...otherwise they have to go back to their country and apply for citizenship thru normal proceedures. They will not be able to haul their extended families here.

You just don’t know what amnesty is apparently - you just hate on a candidate because you want to bring a different candidate up?

Without commenting on the illogic of that, let me be the one to tell you that amnesty gives citizenship. Gingrich does not want that. So on it’s face your assertion is untrue/ignorant.

Why don't you address the details of the Gingrich plan which is his proposal to reward illegal aliens who have managed to avoid being caught for however many years they have remained underground. Or as they put it "in the shadows". Please address that fact.

Without commenting on the illogic of that, let me be the one to tell you that amnesty gives citizenship. Gingrich does not want that. So on it’s face your assertion is untrue/ignorant.

What the Gingrich plan does is allow these illegals to take a half step towards amnesty and eventually full citizenship by allowing them to dwell in the twilight between shadow (the underground) and full sunlight (citizenship)

And you and I know that full citizenship..ie Amnesty, would be just a liberal court case away. Now if I am wrong then please take the time to correct me and school me on the facts. I await your response.

Why do they need anything from the United States. As you read this you clearly understand that these illegals are just that: ILLEGALS

This means that they are citizens of another country who are dwelling here in America...ILLEGALLY So it is not clear from you or Gingrich why we owe them a job or anything. They broke the law by coming here against OUR rules so the humane thing is to send them back to their country of origin as humanely as possible.

Once in their country of origin they have the right under our law to apply LEGALLY for entry into America.

I cannot see why folks like you cannot see the logic in that solution. Am I wrong?

No waiting needed - it was already done. Gingrich does not support amnesty. You were wrong. Consider yourself schooled.

If you now want to ask other questions, feel free. If you now want to wonder what the future holds, feel free. I won't reply.

Lets try it again please: If the Gingrich plan calls for excusing illegal aliens that have escaped the attention of the law for the many years they have illegally resided in this country, how does that not constitute amnesty?

For pete's sake they are getting an excuse to live LEGALLY in this country.

This is in violation of the laws already on the books in this country regarding illegal aliens. And the existing laws will be rendered null and void by the Gingrich proposal. I hope you can see that.
