Sarah Palin Threatens to Sue ‘Rogue’ Book Publisher
abcnews.com ^ | Sept. 26, 2011 | Jon Karl & Shushannah walshe

Posted on 09/26/2011 3:53:55 PM PDT by Al B.

Sarah Palin’s family attorney John Tiemessen has written a letter to Maya Mavjee, the publisher of the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House, that Palin may sue her, the company, and the book’s author Joe McGinniss “for knowingly publishing false statements” in his book released last week, “The Rogue,” ABC News has learned.

READ THE ENTIRE LETTER HERE

The book was widely panned by critics for using unnamed sources to criticize Palin and her family. Tiemessen cites an email they have access to in which McGinniss writes that attorneys from Crown Publishing told him “nothing I can cite other than my own reporting rises above the level of tawdry gossip. The proof is always just around the corner, but that is a corner nobody has been able to turn” and that McGinniss “ran out of time” to sufficiently source the book.

A source close to the Palins tells ABC News that the “Palins are fighting back and demanding answers from Random House.”

“Random House is at the top of the food chain and published a book based upon acknowledged unsubstantiated gossip,” the source said. “The revealing email is key as evidence of this defamatory approach to politics through proxies.”

Tiemessen writes in the letter that the email “clearly describes the fact that Mr. McGinniss researched and investigated many false and scurrilous allegations, and concluded that there was absolutely no evidence anywhere backing these allegations.”

Palin’s attorney writes that it is “malicious” for Crown to publish the book when it has proof McGinniss and Crown “were fully aware the statements in the book were false, intended to be false, and were intended to harm.”

My only concern, is if this is an indication that Sarah may not be running for POTUS. Or does it signal just the opposite?

The blind trust her lawyers are likely setting up can handle the law suit while she runs.

I hope she has her lawyers throw a letter Levi’s way also....it would be cool if every dime made on that book ended up going to the Palins lol

“Thank you Andrew Breitbart for once again uncovering the REAL truth!!!”

Isn’t he still on the hate list (along with Coulter) for being a being butt-kisser to the homosexuals? Sometimes it’s hard to keep up.

to have the book pulled from the shelves

LOL. Remember that flap about Palin censoring library books?

"You want to see how I pull a book off a shelf? Watch this, you #$%&#!"

In addition to him being an ignoramus, Old Sloppy Joe wasn’t to bright when he admitted he wrote the email.

Oh? He admitted he wrote the email? Ouch, that's gonna hurt! He truly is an ignorant tool.

I think that simply agreeing to have the book pulled from the shelves would tend to feed into the lunatic left conspiracy nuts that this book was kept from the American public. The author and publisher need to be publicly humiliated in a court room, under oath and made an example. This needs to go BIG in order to prove that all of these disgusting smears were false and politically motivated.

Absolutely right on all counts!

I don’t understand headlines like ‘Palin may sue’. Not long after she stepped down from the governorship of Alaska, her lawyer warned that slander and libel would no longer be tolerated. Yet, here we are with Crown/Random House maligning and slandering her without restraint.

If any attorneys are reading this, could you please shed some light on the matter? Thanks.

“The blind trust her lawyers are likely setting up can handle the law suit while she runs.”

I wasn’t concerned about a legal conflict of interest. I was concerned that it might not (in the opinion of some - not me I emphasize) that suing him wasn’t “presidential.” Meaning could/would it hurt her in an election? Would liberals attempt to paint her as someone who is stiffling the “freedom of the press?”

Sarah is smart and understands public perceptions. Since she knows how this could be spun against her, did her pursuing it signal she had decided not to run? Or, is it actually the opposite?

I really hope that she sues them BIG and refuses to settle!

I hope so, too. Then they will say, "Look how vindictive she is." The backstory is that we should all just lie down and take it.

Thanks. Understand your point.

However, don’t think the libs can say she is stiffing the freedom of the press here, since the proof that it is all lies is already on the record.

From the Big Government Link:

Last month, in a comment on his own blog, McGinniss provided clues to the true source of his new “evidence”:

I have great respect for–and have learned a lot from–all the bloggers I’ve already mentioned, including Immoral Minority, Progressive Alaska, Palingates, Politicalgates, and several others…

I know Phil Munger and Jesse Griffin personally. I consider myself their friend. Whether I’m their friend or not, I admire much of what they do on their blogs. I’ve exchanged several emails with Patrick of Politicgates [sic]. I think the Politicalgates archives are the best single available resource for anyone wondering why questions are still being asked about Sarah really being Trig’s birth mother. The Immoral Minority archives are also rich in widely ignored material…

With a potential lawsuit and the rules of discovery, the Palins might finally have a chance to unravel the whole Alaska blogger network, and its ties to Obama and the DNC under Discovery rules.

Wouldn't that be SWEET?

Question. The article says:

Tiemessen cites an email they have access to in which McGinniss writes that attorneys from Crown Publishing told him "nothing I can cite other than my own reporting rises above the level of tawdry gossip. The proof is always just around the corner, but that is a corner nobody has been able to turn" and that McGinniss "ran out of time" to sufficiently source the book.

Is there an independent source confirming that Crown Publishing actually said this? Or, do we only have McGinniss's word in an email making the claim.

I'm wondering if Random House has some wiggle room here.
