Ralph Nader hearts Sarah Palin?
We decided to call the longtime left crusader about a speech Palin gave in Iowa earlier this month, one which seemed to mark the transformation of Palin from a standard-issue movement conservative to something more independent and more reformist. And Nader told us he liked what he heard.
"I think she's a lot smarter than most people credit her," says Nader. "Judging by her comments, she is squarely in the camp of conservative populism, opposed to corporatism and its corporate state."
Palin delivered the speech in question in Indianola, Iowa, on Sept. 3. As Anand Giridharadas later observed in the Times, the media responded primarily by "ignoring the ideas she unfurled and dwelling almost entirely on the will-she-wont-she question of her presidential ambitions."
[....] The two don't agree on everything, of course. Nader notes, for example, that he still views Palin as a "militarist" who supports America's foreign wars and the bloated military budget.
If Palin continues down the conservative populist path -- and that's a big "if"; let's face it, she's not exactly known for ideological consistency -- Nader thinks the message will be a political winner.
"It's endlessly elaborative. She could elaborate it with all kinds of newsworthy examples -- abuses, prosecutions, convictions," he says.

Hmmmmmm. The Prog media is defending her and now Nader???? Something doesn’t pass the smell test, here. Don’t trust them. They’re utterly evil and manipulative.
I told you when I first read it: that speech was very important. She gave us the Palin Platform. It will serve her well.
Yes....but funny!....lol
AAAaaarrrrgghh! The kiss of death! Ralph Nader’s endorsement.
I'll take that. I don't care who says it. What's said is what's said no matter who has said it. When he comes out and attacks Palin's conservative message it's time to attack his liberal message.
There are some that will no longer read Ann Coulter. I will read it and I will parrot it if what she writes is a fight for conservatism and an attack on liberalism.
That’s what I’m thinking they are pulling, here.
Palin/Nader 2012!
I would put this in the Kinky Friedman endorsing Rick Perry category. Could go either way... good news or bad news.
I don’t think there’s anything sinister about Nader’s remarks.
The political landscape has shifted since 2008, when conservatives and liberals alike were lighting up the phones to DC screaming at Congress not to approve the bailouts. They did it anyway.
Palin gets that the landscape has shifted...I don’t think the folks in DC really do.
ahh...her strategery was obviously to wait til she got the Nader endorsement
Observing crowd psychology and manipulation is somewhat of a hobby of mine. Personally I suspect a lot of it going at the hands of the various campaigns on both sides of the aisle.
I’m smelling the pile of leavings behind a Trojan Horse on his one.
Check out his most recent book and you’ll agree with me that Ralph’s little choo-choo has gone off around the bend, never to return.
I do think that a populist who jumps into this race and is willing to hammer “crony” capitalism and the banks will do quite well. I just don’t think it will be Sarah.
I’m smelling the pile of leavings behind a Trojan Horse on this one.
Wow. That's kind of like reading that Levi Johnston really likes your sister.
My title says it all.
I was critical of Sarah for “Going Hollywood”, but now she is spreading an important message.
Throw out the ruling Crony Capitalist Club, of which the Dems, Bush, Mitt and Rick are lifetime members.
