Complete Headline: Sarah Palin snorted cocaine off 55 gallon oil drum and had affairs with NBA star and husband's business partner: Sensational claims in new book

Sarah Palin snorted cocaine off a 55 gallon oil drum while snowmobiling with friends and had elicit affairs with a top NBA star and one of her husband's business partners, a new book sensationally claims.

In revelations which could strike a devastating blow to the controversial politician's hopes of joining the 2012 presidential race, Mrs Palin is said to have snorted the class A drug off an oil drum with her husband.

Joe McGinniss's book The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin, which is due to be published on September 20, also alleges that the former governor of Alaska is far from the traditional family woman she claims to be.

Mrs Palin, 47, had a one-night stand with Miami Heat basketball star Glen Rice less than a year before she eloped with her husband, the book claims.

She is said to have met the 6ft 8ins player in 1987 when he was playing in a college basketball tournament in Alaska and she worked as a sports reporter for KTUU television.

It is also claimed that she carried on an affair with Brad Hanson, who ran a snowmobile dealership with her husband Todd - a betrayal which led to Todd dissolving their business.

So you are conceding that there MAY be truth in these charges. If McGinniss didn’t make these charges, he probably would sell fewer books than Jim Wright. Bob

I don’t believe them - anything this juicy would have been dug out long since. I simply do not care either way, as my spoof answers to these so-called revelations makes clear.

An early poster pointed out: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” What Sarah did or did not do as a youngster on her own time and especially in her own bedroom is no concern of mine.
Isn’t that what the Dems squeal every single time they get caught out?
Time to turn that against them. THEY have more to hide than the conservatives - OK, some of the RINOs are gonna get hurt too, but do you really care about that?

Anyone giving this any serious credence is deranged. It’s so silly it’s laughable. I thought this thread would be all jokes, I can’t believe some people are taking this seriously. PDS is still alive and well on FR.

I never said it would be practical or effective to run the case for Palin. A good attorney predicts practical outcomes as against theoretical outcomes. So I don’t disagree that she is unlikely to pursue the case, and for the very reasons you cite. I am only pointing out that, contrary to the tone of your assertions, the law does indeed provide public figures with a practical means to protect their reputation, if they can meet the burden of proof, and if their life and career circumstances justify standing and fighting.

And the law for public figures is not an abstraction. It’s a question of effectiveness in a given case, for a given client. For Palin, I would advise her not to run the case, even if she had a smoking gun that solved her burden of proof. She may lose some small fraction of support for minimizing her response to these allegations, but she will gain much more elsewhere for focusing her campaign on what matters to the voters.

My friend, that “poor woman” has made millions since she quit her government job.

She has found a niche of people who will buy what she is selling. But as a candidate she will never be able to win over the vast majority of the electorate.

As for suffering, I’m currently in 4th stage cancer for the 3rd time. I check into the hospital tomorrow for intense chemo. I seek no sympathy and I doubt that “Mama Grizzly” does either. As a political player, she knows what comes with the territory.

If she announces she is running, just remember what Mr. Jim R, the boss said:

I’ve already put a couple notorious thumpers on notice that if they’ve not already been zotted before hand, the day she announces and they’re continuing to trash her, they get the zot. Guaranfreepingteed!

I am truly sorry about your horrible difficulties, but if Sarah doesn’t run at this point, her “niche”, as you say, will dry up. Sarah Palin is genuine, Scanian. Bob

Sadly enough, I figured there were probably a couple of the most hard-core PDS trolls who would come and roll on this liberal dogturd.

It's sad that I was proven correct, I wish I had been proven wrong. But such is the nature of the most deranged PDS posters on FR that they have lost all ability to apply discretion to anti-Palin liberal attacks.

I never said it would be practical or effective to run the case for Palin.

So in other words, she really does not have a viable option to sue here. She would be pushing the limits of definitions of a public figure.

So my larger point stands - McGinnis can slime her with impunity.

I do not think that she will sue... she will laugh in their faces and deny their crap in absolute terms... that is what I think that she will do.

“I lived through the ‘80’s. Didn’t you?”

I lived through the 80s...mostly in the military.

Nope, I never snorted cocaine, and didn’t have any friends who ever did.

“”She couldn’t remember a time when God wasn’t real in her life,” wrote Kaylene Johnson, author of “Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska’s Political Establishment Upside Down.”

At 12, Palin was baptized by immersion in water during a summer family camp, along with her mother and siblings. Riley said her public testimony and drive to encourage others to do God’s will set her apart at a young age.

“That’s where we noticed the first indication of leadership,” said the pastor, who delivered the invocation at Palin’s inauguration.

From that moment on, according to her biography, her faith grew. In high school, she led basketball and track teams in prayer and to church when they traveled. She signed yearbooks with Bible verses, taking her own motto from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances.”

Sounds like the world I grew up in. And no, no one I knew used cocaine or other drugs. I knew a lot of kids in school that did, but not anyone in our church group.

New York Times v. Sullivan (the seminal U.S. Supreme Court case on the subject) does not state that libel laws don’t apply to public figure; it merely imposes a higher standard—”actual malice”—when a public figure sues someone for libel. Basically, Gov. Palin would have to prove that she was defamed with information published by the author that he knew was false or with reckless disregard as to whether or not it was true. So while it would be difficult for Palin to be successful if she sued McGuinness for libel, there is no outright prohibition on libel suits just because the person defamed is a public figure.

And once again, practically, can Palin sue McGinnis? My larger point stands - McGinnis can slime Palin with impunity.
