A home invasion in Winston-Salem ended early Monday morning after the homeowner fired a revolver while the suspects were inside.
The home of Delmar Brevard Polite, 47, was broken into around 2:25 a.m. on Thornaby Drive. Polite said it started after he heard his doorbell ring.
"I said, who in the world would ring the doorbell at 2:30 in the morning? Next thing I hear was boom, and the door smashed open. By that time I went to grab my revolver." Polite said.
Polite said he heard one suspect order his accomplices to get a DVD player, and then he confronted one of the suspects face to face in the stairwell.
"The young man stepped around at the second step, and when he stepped around he made the remark, 'Oh sh...' and I just fired twice," Polite said.
It was pitch black during the shooting, and Polite ended up hitting walls near the floor. Still, the shots from his .357 startled the suspects enough that they fled the house, Polite said. Winston-Salem police were able to track down the suspects later.

Why doesnt the LSM ever talk about this aspect of the 2nd amendment?
Let me be the first to say it: The guy needs to spend a bit more time at the range.
Delmar was just being “Polite”. ;)
I would think so. Hehe
More range time and a light!
“Polite said. Winston-Salem police were able to track down the suspects later.”
Fecal trail?
I was thinking of getting a 410 shotgun for home security
not too big, not too small.
Spray a nice wide pattern and you wont miss a thing and yet still do no major structual damage to your house
A little spackle and paint and probably done... (except for scraping up the nasty bits if you hit someone)
An armed society is a Polite society.
“No charges were filed against Polite. Police said Polite did everything correctly.”
Good news indeed.
I was thinking of getting a 410 shotgun for home security....Get a .44 Ruger and six .410 shells. Doctor them just a hair and you have six shots available for home defense. Don’t try to go beyond 15 yards, cause it just stings.
“Let me be the first to say it: The guy needs to spend a bit more time at the range.”
Even people who shoot well on the range often miss the first time they’re faced with the prospect of actually shooting a person.
The deadliest weapon in the world is a marine and his rifle. It is your killer instinct which must be harnessed if you expect to survive in combat. Your rifle is only a tool. It is a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong, you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead marines. And then you will be in a world of shit. Because marines are not allowed to die without permission. Do you maggots understand?”

And he said it over and over and over to make sure it sunk in with his recruits.
Taurus Judge.
Wow, a quadruple post? That never happened to me before.
I think the problem is with the system, because I only clicked “post” once.
Not a fan. Looks cooler than a cold hard analysis reveals it to be. Check out Box Of Truth’s comments on the thing.
I’ll stick with hi-cap .45 with tritium sights, thank you very much.
Good weapon, especially made for that purpose. I used the Ruger with a few cuts on the crimps, sealed them back up with wax and didn’t lose any fingers.

Honest, I only pulled the trigger once! I couldn’t have shot all four of them!
Darned automatics!
i use a ruger 44.mag hell of a gun.
Excellent quote. Serious, yet danged funny!
Let me guess. You were cleaning your keyboard and it suddenly went off.
Understatement for sure! A .357 magnum has one loud muzzleblast, makes your ears ring if you're not wearing protection. Indoors? Mercy!
not too big, not too small.

Too small. 20 gauge or bigger, loaded with nothing smaller than #4 buckshot.
Wide pattern? Not at close range, which will be the distance with home defense. At 20 feet the pattern will be maybe 4" in diameter, if it's like my old Remington 870 12 gauge (cylinder bore; no choke).
This is life and death stuff. If you have to shoot then it's shoot-to-kill. Get an effective weapon.
Perfect justification of my preference for 12-Mag.
He wouldn’t have had to have good aim if it was a short barreled shotgun....
Saga 12ga, 8 rnd mag, 9 pellets per shell...somebody be in trouble!
Yes, you do have to wonder how the gun grabbers would handle this kind of situation.
“Let me guess. You were cleaning your keyboard and it suddenly went off.”
But I was so sure it was unloaded...

Now there’s a herd that could use some thinning.

Sear pin? I ain’t got no sear pin. I don’t need no steenking sear pin.
