COPELAND, FL (WBBH/NBC) - A 90-year-old woman is recovering after a Good Samaritan saved her from an alligator attack on Wednesday.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says Margaret Webb was in her front yard near Copeland, FL when the alligator attacked her.
Dwain Daniels III was driving by, saw the attack and rushed out of his vehicle to help.
"He looked over saw the lady on the ground, half in the water, wheeled around and jumped out of his truck to come to her aid. It appears he was able to pull her away from the gator," said Jayson Horadam with the Wildlife Commission.
Daniels took a shot at the alligator and believes he hit it. He says the gator was seven to eight feet long.
Webb's leg was nearly severed in the attack. She was taken by helicopter to the hospital, where her leg was amputated below the knee. Hospital officials say she is in critical condition.

that’s Florida for you!!!
the guy was carrying and shot the Gator..hope he had a CW permit..but then, I guess that was the last thing on the police’ mind!
Yes. But with her injures, and at the age of 90, she may not be much longer.

All anyone can do is pray for her and hope she will recover.
He musta been carrying concealed, fairly common here in FL.
Poor lady, I hope she recovers but this would be a lot for a 90 yr old.
Prayers for this poor woman and accolades to the good Samaritan. You hear so many times that people won’t get involved or help... no matter what the circumstances. It makes my heart feel good to know there are still helpful people in the world that are willing to jump in.
If you shoot him in the back of the head with just a little ole .22 it will die immediately. Alligators are very easy to kill.
How did the gator get her? Who..what..when..where..how....duh
His biggest problem is he was in the Everglades which generally prohibit firearms, like most nation and state parks.
Still I doubt he’ll be prosecuted by the local police.

I bet you haven't missed a single episode of "Swamp People"...I love that show...

Way to go Dwain.
Went to your map and zoomed "out"...that's a LOT of protected "green" area!
Thought and prayers to the lady.
Its shocking how much of it is protected area. Its going to get bigger as the state takes land from the sugar companies and floods it.
No roads either, makes it easy to keep people out. All part of the plan.
Choot ‘em!
Here in Florida it isn’t required to posses a CCW in order to have a firearm with you in your vehicle. You only need it to carry concealed. Florida is a very gun friendly state with strong castle doctrine laws.
You may have a gun in your vehicle (loaded of course) as long as it is tucked away and out of sight. i.e. The two step process for acquisition.
