"Choot 'em, Elizabeth! Choot 'em!"
I would think any gator, given the chance, would show aggression toward 90-year-old prey.
“Dewain Daniels, who was driving by, stopped to help the woman, Ferraro said, and pulled her out of the water away from the alligator. But that didn’t stop the huge reptile, which tried to come out of the water three times.”
“Daniels shot the alligator between the eyes with a .22 Magnum rifle, according to the incident report from the wildlife commission, and it retreated into the water.”
It says she was in her front yard when it attacked her. There could be a reason why she, and/or the alligator, walked over to each other.

Cool!
That Gator be hungry!
Officials doubt the gator will be recovered after it was seriously injured or killed when Daniels shot it.
As a result, it is unlikely we will ever locate or recover this alligator, FWC spokeswoman Gabriella Ferraro said in an e-mail. There is also a swift current which has likely taken the live, wounded, or dead gator miles downstream by now.
Daniels, who pulled Webb from the canal after the alligator released her from its grip, said he pulled a .22 caliber rifle from his truck and fired a shot into the reptiles right eye. Daniels had been returning home to Port Charlotte when he happened to drive by Webbs State Road 29 home as the attack happened.

The Copeland woman attacked by an alligator Wednesday was upgraded to serious condition, a Lee Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said Saturday.
Margaret Webb, 90, was bitten by an 8-foot alligator while walking along a canal in her front yard. A good Samaritan and family friend was driving by when he stopped to help.
Dwain Daniels III pulled Webb from the water after the gator released her. He then shot the reptile in its right eye with a .22-caliber rifle.

I believe it's now legal to carry concealed in National Parks. IIRC the changes were introduced during the Bush administration and signed into law by Hussein circa 2009-2010
Thanks for posting the link, marktwain. What this poor woman went through is horrifying. I got chills when I read she dug her nails into the ground trying to stop the gator from dragging her to the water. I think we all know if he got her into the water... well, it wouldn’t be good. Poor thing was just looking at her garden. I hope she does well.
"Choot 'em!, Elizabet, Choot 'em!"
Polk salad Annie, the gators got your granny!
