Karl Rove To Sarah Palin: Get A "Thicker Skin"
Real Clear Politics ^

Posted on 08/25/2011 9:01:23 AM PDT by indianrightwinger

Karl Rove responds to controversy over his speculation if Fmr. Gov. Sarah Palin will indeed enter the GOP field. Rove said chances are she will jump in, but was not definitive in his observation.

"I'm mystified," Rove said about reaction to his speculation. "Look, she is all upset about this saying how I am trying to sabatouge her in some way. How do I speculate on her future."

"Look, if she doesn't want to be speculated about a potential presidential candidate there is an easy way to end the speculation. Simply say 'I'm not running.' Instead, every time she pops up in the public eye like she did on CNN, at the Iowa State fair a short number of days ago. she said 'I haven't made a decision.'"

"I'm just speculating that more likely than not she is going to be a candidate."

"Now I said 'I wouldn't bet a lot of money on it' because it is such a close thing and I am not privy to her thought-making process. But it is sign of enormous thin-skin that if we speculate about her, she gets upset. And I suspect if we didn't speculate about her, she would be upset and getting ways to get us to speculate about her."

Sadly, I agree with Rove on this. For this voter, I’d really like to know if she is a candidate in 2012 or not. Can’t think of a reason why she is not letting the voters know one way or another. For me, this approach has gotten tiresome and I wonder how she would deal with a national emergency. No attacks please—I do not dislike her personally; in fact to me she is a very remarkable woman. I believe others feel the same way. IMHO

It just dawned on me that Sarah might have a darn good strategy going on.

The libs NEED to undermine announced candidates and they'd love to get their claws into Sarah as soon as possible. Yet, they are effectively muzzled by Sarah's unknown intentions.

IOW, she's driving them even crazier than they already are and I find that quite amusing.

And the thread is over-run with PDSers.

Did she actually get upset; or is he floating that out of thin air. What has she said or done to convey that she is/was “upset” about something?

All of us here are familiar with the inside baseball with respects to her decision to resign as governor. The average joe in the street sees it a little differently. One day they see her as John McCain’s running mate. Then they see SP on reality shows, doing book tours, and winding up as a regular on FNC-—not to mention her daughter on Dancing with the Stars. They see the Palins cashing in on their celebrity status and they see losers like Levi Johnston trying to cash in on his connection with the family.

This morning according to rasmussenreports.com BHO thrashes SP 50% to 33%. The other GOP candidates are catching up, some ahead, others dead even or slightly behind.

I wish she’d vetoed the abomination of a bill that caused her all that trouble.

She couldn't. She wanted government/politicians to be accountable.

Poor Karl. I guess he knows that if she’s nominated that he won’t be getting a consulting gig from her campaign.

But she said of SP, if she can’t handle all of the flak she was getting in Alaska, how is she going to handle it on a national level? I had no ready response.

Sarah Palin handled the "flak" brilliantly. She was being attacked on a national scale. They expected her to sit up there in Alaska and take their flak to the extent of paralyzing her and her administration. She turned the tables on them. Instead of constantly playing defense, she took the battle nationally by going on the offensive. For an example of her offensive tactic, all you have to do is look at the results of the 2010 elections and the tea party movement. People say that the tea party hasn't any leaders but I maintain Palin disproves that claim. Never apologize for Palin resigning because like I said, it was a brilliant tactical move.

No, she didn’t. Rove has been trying to push this talking point for months now.

if we speculate about her, she gets upset

Sorry but I did a Google search on this. The ONLY one saying Palin is upset with Rove is....ROVE. Every article anywhere on the net about it is quoting Rove saying this crap.

Rove floating that out of thin air

I cannot find anything anywhere validating this. Every article reporting on "Plain being up set" is an article quoting Rove saying it. I suspect Rove's ego is running away with him again

Karl, take your own advice. As your conduct over the 2010 Delaware Senate campaign shows, you are one of the top 5 thinnest skinned people in politics.

That Delaware election was an eye opener for me. The GOP establishment elite caused that defeat. Never again will I vote for a Republican that I don't believe in just because to not vote means a Democrat victory. Screw them all. Either run a credible conservative or suffer the defeat.

Yep. Palin and the Tea Party are "We the People".

I saw a video of her from Iowa and she was saying "Ask Todd, We've never won a poll but we win elections." LOL

I too used to be a Hannity fan...but no so much anymore. His radio show is nothing but a recap of Rush’s show. Hannity never seems to have any original material and he sounds like a broken record, the same stuff over and over. His show on t.v. leaves much to desired these days...the constant shrieking, yelling, arguing that goes on between he and amongst the guests is so annoying. (Are you reading this Sean? Take to heart...might improve your ratings!)

Let’s say SP decides to jump in the presidential race. Obviously the first casualty will be Michelle Bachmann and eventually some of the other Tea Party favorites such as Herman Cain. SP will literally suck the oxygen out of their campaigns.

Longer term, I think SP will hurt Rick Perry taking conservative support away from him and therefore assuring Romney the nomination.

Tread carefully as the owner of this site is a “fanatic”.

Not really. He's open minded to other candidates.

We now have conservatives Bachmann and Cain officially in the race fending off RINO Romney; and Palin and Perry could possibly jump in. My hopes are with Palin, but if she decides not to run I could be happy with Bachmann or Cain. Also, if Palin does not run but Perry does, he'd probably suck all the air out of the race. Either way, Palin, Bachmann, Cain or even Perry would all be excellent alternatives to Obama the commie. Anyone but RINO Romney the big government chief architect of CommieCare!

What you said makes sense as a strategy. I’m afraid we’re beyond the strategizing stage re the media, etc. Somebody’s got to give voice to us out here in Hooterville.
