The news and blogosphere is filled with responses to the July 14, 2011 story by Joshua Green, the Senior Editor of the Atlantic, entitled "Michele Bachmann's Church Says the Pope Is the Antichrist." That is because it raises a serious matter which should not be taken lightly, and one which the candidate must address. First, let me share some personal context. I am what is often called a "revert" to the Catholic Church, someone who returned to the Church of my childhood after a long search for the truth. I love being a Catholic Christian. I hold an undergraduate degree and a master's degree in Catholic theology. I am a dissertation away from obtaining a PhD in Catholic Moral Theology. I am also a member of the Clergy, a Deacon. However, I write this article as a private and very concerned citizen.

IIRC, there are former WELS members on FR who are so virulently anti-Catholic, distressingly hateful rants are posted occasionally.
I do believe that tigers don’t change their stripes nor leopards their spots.
Which is like pointing out that sitting in a garage is not synonymous with being a automobile. Almost all will stipulate that if you put your faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, you will be saved according to His promise -- name plates over building doors notwithstanding.
This might matter to me,,, if i wasn’t treated to a continous stream of Roman catholic threads that are very disrespectful of protestants. Arrogant statements that only the catholics are the true church,, endless claims that Christ himself intended a line of popes and picked the first one,,endless caterwalling that the vatican is open to one sided reuniting with other christians. (meaning fully accept the pope as your leader, and all teachings of the catholics,, and we will accept you)
So no wounded cries will be listened to today.
But as it is,, if Bachmann is a Christian, thats enough for me. Besides, she like all the repub field, is only running to be Sarah’s veep.
The concern troll is deeply concerned.
Heaven forbid if Catholics ever become so smug.
Lets let the muslim kenyan stay in office
Great idea! Well show em ;-)

What you said.
Cat fight! Cat fight!
Really?
You should read the Free Republic Religion Forum once in awhile and see how wrong you are.
It spite of the shuck and jiving, is still a fact that the GOP has never nominated a Catholic for President.
So don’t vote for her
We know Obama respects Catholics, at least the pro abortion, pro stem cell, euthanasia, gay marriage backing Pelosi/Kennedy CINO’s and the Georgetown/Note dame liberals who cover the cross when he speaks at their podiums
I was not FReepborn yesterday and it is very rare to come across an evangelical who categorically states “a Catholic cannot be a Christian.” Onus on you to catalog a rebuttal.
Anybody but Obama.
The trolls can try to minimize this or change the subject if they wish. But this is all over the Catholic blogosphere now. It has 3 links on Spiritdaily, huge blog widely read by conservative Catholics (who vote in GOP primaries).
It has been picked up by Bill Donohue of the Catholic League, who is very tenacious. Bachmann better come out and explain why she belonged to this “Church” that holds us all in contempt until SIX DAYS BEFORE ANNOUNCING FOR PRESIDENT.
Or else she will be toast. If she isn’t toast already.
You're correct, every so often the lame stream media pulls out their books on religion to try to pit one Christian group against another. When that doesn't work, they come after the perennial fall guy - the Jew. Who even takes any of them as a serious news group especially MSNBC.
I can vouch for that.
I have experienced the most vicious anti-Catholicism I have ever seen on the FR Religion Forum from extreme right wing “Christian” evangelicals, including the Bachmanns’ co-religionists.
I have never heard a bigoted word from Sarah Palin, nor anyone in her family. Palin is the superior candidate.
As a Protestant, the Anti-Christ will be a well known figure who commands both secular and religious deference. The Anti-Christ will claim powers equal to God. The Pope forgives sins. And Mark 7:9 And He said unto them, “Full well ye reject the commandments of God, that ye may keep your own tradition”. And the Catholic Church does really really hold fast to traditions NOT in the Bible. I don’t know. I’m straddling the fence here.
“Bachmann is too right-wing evangelical for my taste. These people do not believe that Catholics are Christians. They are smug in believing they are the only Christians who have been saved by the Precious Blood of Christ.”
I’m for every Republican who decides to get in the race. The debate helps shape the party at this point, and the GOP sure needs re-shaping.
Whining about what one religious denomination thinks about another is a waste of time, unless she doesn’t believe in freedom of religion as enshrined in the Constitution.
EVERY denomination/religion thinks they have some highly redeeming virtue over all the others - otherwise, they wouldn’t exist. If you take offense to every other religion but yours you’ll have plenty of company, but not many friends.
