Born (or at least unveiled) on the 4th of July. 10ft statue of Ronald Reagan is unveiled in London

It was a fitting occasion for the 4th of July. A statue of Ronald Reagan was unveiled at the American Embassy in London today to mark the centenary of the former U.S. president's birth.

Foreign Secretary William Hague and former U.S. secretary of state Condoleezza Rice watched as the 10ft bronze figure was revealed in Grosvenor Square.

Sadly Mr Reagan's great political ally and friend, former prime minister Baroness Thatcher, was unable to attend due to her frailty.

The statue of Mr Reagan was commissioned as part of a year of celebrations. It will stand alongside statues of other American presidents such as Franklin D Roosevelt and Dwight D Eisenhower, another Republican who served two terms.

Although the embassy is moving from its central London home next year, the statues will remain at their current Grosvenor Square location.

Miss Rice, who was representing the late president's widow Nancy Reagan, will give the keynote speech at a gala dinner for 700 people at The Guildhall later in the day.

The statue was commissioned by the Reagan Memorial Fund Trust...

Thank God it was not erected at the US Embassy, Obambi would have ordered it ‘ return to sender ‘ just like the bust of Churchill in the Oval Office.

The Europeans get it. I think we need to carve RRs face onto a mountain. Not Rushmore—but a mountain all his own. Maybe in California (when they wake up and discover the failures of Liberalism). Talk about a make-work project. He was a great man who came from an un-likely place. AND HE WASN’T A LAWYER!

People in Europe show more respect for Reagan than US democrats and other lefties and commies. - (REDUNDANCY ALERT!) -

They realize and appreciate how much The Gipper did to bring freedom to millions.

US lefties dislike him because he set their beloved international socialist movement back 70 years.

No, he only managed to hold it off for another 25 years. The people he entrusted the party to sold us out.

I can’t imagine erecting a statue of the British PM in the USA. This just seems strange. Maybe if it were Eisenhower.

There are Winston Churchill statues in the US. There should be Margaret Thatcher statues.
