June 15, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A 15-year-old boy was mugged at gunpoint and struck on the head by a group of teens near the Ogilvie Transportation Center in the West Loop on Tuesday evening.
The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. near an alley at 101 N. Clinton St., according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The victim was approached by a group of seven male teens, Mirabelli said.
One, who was armed with a handgun, approached the victim and demanded his money, according to police. A second teen struck the victim on the back of his head, Mirabelli said.
The group got the boy's cell phone, cash and a bus card, police said.
Police are asking that anyone who may have seen the robbery and can provide a description of the offenders call Belmont Area detectives. Additionally, if anyone sees someone matching the description of the suspects, they should call police.
The offender with the gun was described as a black male with a dark complexion, about 19, 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds with brown eyes and black hair in dreadlocks.
The offender who struck the boy in the head was described as a black male between 15 and 18 with brown eyes and black hair, also in dreadlocks. He is about 5-foot-11 and 150 pounds, and was wearing dark blue jean shorts and a T-shirt that had the word "ENYCE" in rhinestones, Mirabellli said.
The other offenders were described only as black males believed to be in their teens.
No one was in custody as of late Wednesday morning, and Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
This incident is at least the tenth similar attack in the downtown area since the beginning of the month.

Someone I knew was mugged at knifepoint virtually in front of a security guard. The mugger said, "that's ok, he a brother, he not gonna do nothin."
Personally, I'd suspect it was more that the security guard was afraid than that he was black, but whatever, I don't think the average private security guard is much help.
I certainly hope you have a bug out plan to get out of the city when the crap hits the fan. I do have a question. How do you get past the metal detectors at Dirksen? Feel free to PM the reply.
You probably know this, but 95% of the ‘disenfranchised’ in the loop are part time residents of the Pacific Garden mission, 1400 block south Canal St.. A scourge on the center of the city.

I worked for First Chicago back in the day. I carried every single day, too. Nice to meet a kindred soul. Make sure you've got a bug out plan. The crap's going to hit the fan pretty soon I think. I sure wouldn't want to be anywhere near the city when all those LINK cards stop working.
Here's the irony: I used to work near Roosevelt and Canal, a few short blocks to Pacific Garden Mission. I used to walk from Union Station south on Canal on a daily basis for 5 years to get to work. Not exactly a pleasant walk having to go under Congress Parkway and past the old and new Post offices. Occasionally I'd have some homeless/drunk ask for money, but in those 5 years I never felt threatened or came close to being mugged. Heck there were times I'd walk over to the last Maxwell Street Polish stand over by Roosevelt and I-94 to get a Polish, fries and a coke for a whopping $4.50. Even during that walk I felt safe, never once got eyeballed or felt uncomfortable in the neighborhood.
Ironic that my office moved last Friday to the south Loop and on only my third day in the new office some stupid bastard tries mugging me literally outside the very building I now work in.
I haven't told my wife yet that it happened, waiting for the kids to go to bed for the evening so they don't get upset.
Personally, I can't wait to get out of this God forsaken state. I hate Illinois. I can't stand it. We're headed for Texas as soon as the kids are done with high school in another 3 years.

Whatever race he is, he’s still the victim of a crime.
I’d like to see them kick these kids out of the country when they convict them. Why should citizens have to support these drones, either in prison or out?

Ugh. Going home to the City for a family reunion in a week, and now Illinois is the last holdout in the US against concealed carry...
