Lunch With David Mamet The dramatist says he's "crazy" about Sarah Palin.
Slate ^ | June 11, 2011 | John Gapper

Posted on 06/12/2011 5:32:08 PM PDT by Hojczyk

What does he think of Barack Obama? "The question is can he run on his record in 2012 and the answer is no, because it's abysmal. He took a trillion dollars and where it went, nobody knows. He dismantled health care, he weakened America around the world, he sold out the state of Israel. All he's got to run on is being a Democrat So who would he prefer as president? He replies that he is "not current" with the Republican contenders until I mention Sarah Palin. "I am crazy about her," he answers immediately. "Would she make a good candidate for president? I don't know but she seems to have succeeded at everything she put her hand to."

Mamet compares Palin to a late friend in Cabot, Vt., where he owns a "little cabin in the woods ... I like to hunt. I like to fish. Cross-country ski. It's in the middle of absolute nowhere. A dirt-track road, a 200-year-old post-and-beam house. Gorgeous." His friend, he continues, was "a hardworking guy, a man of honor who was looking out for the town's interests. I thought of him when I saw Sarah Palin. She started with the PTA and then became the mayor and then governor [of Alaska]. I thought, well, OK. That's someone who knows how to work."

Why, if he so loves small-town America and its values, does he live in the liberal enclave of Los Angeles? "There is a lot of work. My wife works there," he says and then he mentions his daughters. "They are very, very beautiful. It once occurred to me: being able to write is like being the pretty girl at the party. You can't be diffident about it because that's a lie but it's nothing to be arrogant about."

Book

The Secret Knowledge: On the Dismantling of American Culture

David Mamet made a stir in 2008 with his Village Voice essay, “Why I Am No Longer a Brain-Dead Liberal.” This book is a fuller, wittier, and more scathing treatment of the same subject—a liberal screenwriter who has “seen the light.”

Mamet has a new book out about how he became a Conservative. I’m in the queue for it at the library.

He meets with sowell and is a big fan.

"The question is can he run on his record in 2012 and the answer is no"

This is where the Pubbies should concentrate their campaign. Bambi has been a total failure even for the completely far left kooks. Of course they won't vote (R) anyway but they might just stay home and hit the bong one more time.

Note to Pubbie Politicians: This should be on every billboard in the country. It should be your talking points until the election. Unfortunately a lot of you (Pubbie Politicians) don't/won't get it.

Mamet was a creator of the TV series "THE UNIT." My agent is trying to get a ftf with him on his next trip to Hollywood to pitch some of my properties to him (including two series pilots).

Mamet's book is about the herd mentality of the left, and Ann Coulter's book is about the violent mob tendencies of the left.

Both I read, both are excellent. Similar themes, very different writers, different experiences...Coulter references the French Revolution to successful effect.

I love e-books!!!

But what Mamet and Palin fans really want to know is...does she get the coffee and the Eldorado?

-I highly recommend his book, it's a primer for anyone who wants to know
conservatism, as an introduction or refresher. This book should be required
reading for every high school senior.

Most Republican Politicians including people like Boehner are afraid to stick their head up out of the foxhole because they fear being Palinized. Because Palin is honest and rock solid she can survive the media scrutiny, but a lot of these guys know they would end up like Weiner if they decided to get aggressive with Obama.

I am just finishing Primetime Propaganda by Ben Shapiro. It’s a must-read. Inteerviews with TV creative people as well as execs, all totally frank about their desire to push gay marriage, teenage sexuality etc. Also an interesting view of the Frankfort School. I love it. the writer is only 27.

The struggle of the Left to rationalize its positions is an intolerable, Sisyphean burden. I speak as a reformed Liberal.
