The White House website proudly says President Obama is committed to creating the most open and accessible administration in American history.
But try telling Vice President Joe Bidens staff that, after they held a local reporter in a closet for hours after he was invited to cover a Florida political fundraiser because they did not want him talking with the guests.
The Orlando Sentinel reporter was ushered into the closet inside wealthy property developer Alan Ginsburgs Winter Falls mansion, after being told that Joe Biden and Senator Bill Nelson had not yet arrived.
Powers told The Drudge Report: When I'd stick my head out, they'd say, Not yet. We'll let you know when you can come out.
After 90 minutes he was allowed out to hear Biden and Nelson speak for 35 minutes, before being taken back to the closet for the remainder of the event.
From inside his temporary prison Powers emailed his office from his cell phone: Sounds like a nice party.
When Ginsburg who has supported both Democrat and Republican candidates in the past learnt of the treatment that took place in his house, he called the reporter.
He said he was just following their lead and was extremely embarrassed by the whole thing.
But some guests were shocked by the Vice Presidents staff.
I would also like to know if this is actually legal to treat people like caged animals. Im disgusted by these actions.
Florida state law says kidnapping entails forcibly, secretly or by threat confining, abducting or imprisoning another person against her or his will and without lawful authority.
But the Vice Presidents staff emailed him an apology which he said I found far less satisfying than Ginsburgs.
The Vice Presidents office did not respond to requests for comment.

Ironic.
The one who should be kept in a closet out in public is Joe Biden.
Trust me, totally true.
Oh, no, I didn’t mean to imply that I didn’t believe it. I should have been clearer. I don’t know what to make of the Veep’s staff doing such a thing and the reporter allowing it. I wouldn’t remain in a flippin’ closet. That’s just ... weird.
Sorry for repost. Was editing down to 300 words and did not see earlier posting of this Daily Mail story.
Reporter is wimpy jerk. Had it been anyone from my generation, we would have been putting microphones in Biden staffers’ faces, asking “What was it you didn’t want us to hear the guests discussing?”
....Kidnapping...Illegal imprisonment....Felony Conspiracy...
This is something I've been noticing especially since Obama's been President. I didn't even bother watching the US Media on Japan.
In England there are many people wondering why we are fighting for Al Qaeda control in Libya. In the United States, most people (though still against the war) still think these people we’re helping are just everyday civilians. (that includes at least one GOP possible candidate who after the report was released should know better to than to continue the support for Obama’s war).
No sweat...
Come to think of it, I will be lucky if the Orlando Sun-Sentinel carries it at all.

No, as it would constitute false imprisonment. Also possibly kidnapping, I don’t know.
In this case, yes, as presumably the captive went along with it. Heck, he was “on the clock,” wasn’t he? Gotta kill time somehow, and a closet can’t be much worse than a Democratic fundraiser.
“If this reporter had any balls hed have people arrested for kidnapping”
No doubt they’d have a foolproof defense, as they probably would have let the reporter go if he asked. I assume the guy voluntarily stayed in the closet to get a scoop. That’s not illegal.
He was told he could only come out when the politicians were ready to give their speeches.
Powers told The Drudge Report: When I'd stick my head out, they'd say, Not yet. We'll let you know when you can come out.
The fact that he was able to stick his head out of the closet means he was able to open the closet door.
And if he was able to open the closet door, he was able to leave any time he wanted. This sounds to me more of a story of reporter who's a complete and utter p#$$y than a ruthless group of Machiavellian politicos.
Here's a pic of the guy.
I stand by my assessment. He was probably the kid in high school who the jocks would perform wedgies on and shove in lockers.
Good job on the liece.
Good job on the piece.
spull chunk ‘on’
