Clyburn: Palin intellectually unable 'to understand what's going on here'

A House Democratic leader on Wednesday lashed out at Sarah Palin, accusing the former Alaska governor of being intellectually incapable of understanding why she's faced criticism related to the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.).

Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn (S.C.) said that Palin had missed the point by releasing a statement Wednesday morning blasting the media for "blood libel" for looking to assign blame in part to her rhetoric after the attempted assassination of Giffords last weekend.

"You know, Sarah Palin just can't seem to get it, on any front. I think she's an attractive person, she is articulate," Clyburn said on the Bill Press radio show. "But I think intellectually, she seems not to be able to understand what's going on here."

Palin broke her relative silence since the shooting, which some Democrats have attributed to an environment that allowed such an attack on a member of Congress. Democrats have homed in on the map Palin's political action committee had released, depicting targeted lawmakers in the election with crosshairs over their districts.

"Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own," Palin wrote. "They begin and end with the criminals who commit them, not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies, not with those who proudly voted in the last election."

Clyburn said that Palin didn't grasp why such rhetoric was so troubling, regardless of the motivations of the alleged shooter. The No. 3 House Democrat referenced the civil rights era, and said that some of the shrill rhetoric in modern politics is reminiscent of that time.

"I have some experiences that maybe she does not have," he said. "When I see and hear things today that are reminiscent of that period of time, I am very, very concerned about it, because I know what it led to back then, and I know what it can lead to again."

Isn’t Clyburn the one they made a special position for so he could have a driver and limo?

That which I want to say about Clyburn would get me banned.

Once again we have someone from the ruling elite looking down upon the ‘uneducated’ masses. We the “unwashed masses” from middle America can’t understand anything of importance, so we need Pols like Clyburn to spell it out for us or simply make the decisions for us.

The shameless actions of the liberal media, bloggers and Hollywood celebrities, in the wake of this tragedy, only further emboldens and already emboldened movement.

That which does not break us only makes us stronger.

Different spelling of the last name.

Actually, when you look at it, Van Cliburn’s victory in the 1958 Tchaikovskiy Competiton, where he essentially showed the Russians how their music should be played, was one of our first landmark victories in the Cold War. His ability to produce such a gorgeous and warm piano tone is evidenced by a marvelous recorded legacy that will last millenia.

Clyburn, on the other hand, won’t be remembered five years after he leaves office.

A few bad apples is expected. But the medias constant practice of raising them to the level of National figure is bewildering. Especially, since it makes the American People aware of the deficencies of the Dumocrat Party.

Is that the prominent intellectual James Clyburn, who himself (obvious Mensa member that he is) clearly has an intellectual understanding of everything?

THAT James Clyburn?

Did he really say that? I think most of us are intellectually unable to follow his reasoning.

I guess Clyburn has been assigned the bad cop role.

Actually, her video response, released today, was a masterful reply. Especially smart was the pause (of several days) before responding, allowing fools like Clyburn, Krugman, Shultz, et. al., to step in it. She has some very astute political instincts and her response was spot on.

“I’m speechless.

Why? This is simple..like any common garden variety run of the mill leftist, he thinks she should just shut up and take it and not defend herself. He did not respond to any point she made, He just regurgitated a very predictable and pathetic ad hominem attack.. LOL..”

—You’re absolutely correct. I guess I didn’t want to immediately take the bait and say something that would be misinterpreted or something that I might later regret (unlike 99% of the dolts on the Left). It’s kinda hard when the guy saying the race-baiting provocative words...has his daughter appointed to the FCC.

But that was a pretty weak response on my part. And I’m not silent anymore. :-)

It will be a little awkward if, in two years, he has to address her as “Mrs. President.”

The irony of James Clyburn questioning the intellectual acumen of anyone else is truly astounding!

My thought was that there are an awful lot of folks in the electorate who consider these “bad apples” worthy of public office. Whether or not the media props them up, there are enought Americans who can’t see through the media fog to the empty-suit nature of these Clyburnistas.

My first reaction when Obama got elected was not, “Okay, how do we survive this one.” It was, “How can there be that many Americans who could fall for this guy?”
