Sheriff blames Arizona's bigotry
St. Petersburg Times ^ | January 9, 2011 | PAULINE ARRILLAGA, AP

Posted on 01/09/2011 3:52:25 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Look at the link to see that headline (along with picture) on the front page of the St. Pete Times. Screen save it if you can. This is the title when you go to the story:

"AZ shooting targets US congresswoman, kills 6"

"....The sheriff blamed the vitriolic political rhetoric that has consumed the country, much of it occurring in Arizona.

Giffords expressed similar concern, even before the shooting. In an interview after her office was vandalized, she referred to the animosity against her by conservatives, including Sarah Palin's decision to list Giffords' seat as one of the top "targets" in the midterm elections.

"For example, we're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the thing is, that the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action," Giffords said in an interview with MSNBC.

In the hours after the shooting, Palin issued a statement in which she expressed her "sincere condolences" to the family of Giffords and the other victims.

During his campaign effort to unseat Giffords in November, Republican challenger Jesse Kelly held fundraisers where he urged supporters to help remove Giffords from office by joining him to shoot a fully loaded M-16 rifle. Kelly is a former Marine who served in Iraq and was pictured ...

"I don't see the connection," between the fundraisers featuring weapons and Saturday's shooting, said John Ellinwood, Kelly's spokesman. "I don't know this person, we cannot find any records that he was associated with the campaign in any way. I just don't see the connection.

"Arizona is a state where people are firearms owners - this was just a deranged individual."...

I saw that on TV. What does this have to do with bigotry? Possibly the Sheriff knows something we don’t but why is he drawing sweeping conclusions like that, blaming this on the people of Arizona, based on information that isn’t even public?

This “sheriff” is an embarrassment. He did not show up to the press conference with a prepared statement, he did not know the name of the FBI agent that was to speak after him, he thought that 5 were killed where numerous reports confirmed previously that there was 6, his comments and statements were not structured and all over the place and finally, he assumes motive and blame when little (if any) is known about the suspect.

INCOMPETENCE is word for this “sheriff”

If the perp never got medical help, there’d be no record of a diagnosis. Makes me wonder what his mother and/or father knew and when he/she knew it.

I’ve got another question: Where was the Tuscon PD at the presser? And if the shooting occured in the city limits and it was in the TPD’s jurisdiction, why the heck didn’t the police chief assign a LE presence to Giffords?

IOW the left considers political opponents ENEMIES. They are infuriated at the very thought that someone would be against their ideas and make the disagreement PERSONAL.

The left has caused this ugliness in American society.

I give you Reverend Wright and Bill Ayers as examples of the destructive forces in America.

Good questions.

I've got another couple of questions: Was the perp employed? If not, where'd he get the money to buy the gun?

Where’d he keep the gun? At his parents’ house or somewhere else?

What bigotry did Arizona do? Follow the law.

Bigotry means “a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs”

Maybe the Sheriff has his own bigotries.

St. Pete Times Front Page Headline now changed to:

“Appeals to cool political tone”

(Earlier title was: “Sheriff blames Arizona’s bigotry”)

I saw the presser that the Pima County sheriff, Clarence Dupnik, gave and it was disgusting. He must have blamed talk radio and mean rhetoric at least 3 or 4 times if not more. He started and ended the press conference with this opinion.

I doubt this 22 yr old murderer listens to talk radio, his radicalism probably comes from professors, trash music and MSNBC. There, I can have opinions too and neither of us knows the real story.

It could be that Sheriff Dupnik is trying to turn away scrutiny about the abysmal lack of concern about this gunman. And just what was the offense they will not name?

Dupnik said the suspected shooter has made death threats before and been contacted by law-enforcement officers. The threats weren't against Giffords, Dupnik said. Suspect in rampage called 'very disturbed' (has made death threats before)

Six people are killed and 12 or 13 injured. Within minutes, the opportunistic political commentary begins from the left. I don’t think we’re getting the truth and we probably won’t ever get it, or it will be a long, long time before we do. We won’t get the truth at all if this guy gets the death penalty.

The Pima county Sheriff, Clarence Dupnik, is a democrat and hard core leftist.

He openly opposed Arizona's SB1070 Immigration Law and stated that he would not enforce it in Pima county.

His biased comments regarding motivation for the attack on Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords are not appropriate for a LEO, especially one at his level.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," said the sheriff. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

On the other hand, maybe he is talking about Harry Reid, Barack Obama , Keith Olberman and the staff at CNN!

I feel like this shooting was just set up nicely enough to bring out the hate from the left. For one thing the Sheriff in that county of Pima is an idiot. Not quite sure how he won the job, but what I do know is Sheriff Barney Fife or rather Clarence Dupnik is a leftist. He is the kind of sheriff the left can be proud of. He opposed SB1070 and when CNN sniffed him out last year they put him on shows. It is like someone created a Left-wing Joe Arpaio. So your going to get what we got yesterday when Dupnik got a pulpit on which to speak.

“Randi Rhodes literally called for Bush to be assassinated.”
Several people on the left were calling for the murder of Rush Limbaugh including Mike Malloy and Ed Schultz. There are clearly Left wing nuts and Left wing extremisim on the rise. As Jared Lee Loughner proves. Period.
