TSA workers face verbal abuse from travelers
msnbc ^ | 11/22/10 | Harriet Baskas

Airline passengers aren’t the only ones complaining about the Transportation Security Administration’s new enhanced security procedures. Many TSA employees aren’t too happy, either.

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the union that represents TSA workers, is urging the TSA to do more to protect its employees from abuse from airline passengers angry over the new security methods. The union reports that some members “have reported instances in which passengers have become angry, belligerent and even physical with TSOs (transportation security officers). In Indianapolis, for example, a TSO was punched by a passenger who didn’t like the new screening process,” the union said in a Nov. 17 statement posted on its website.

“This absence of information has resulted in a backlash against the character and professionalism of TSOs,” said Gage in a statement. “TSA must act now — before the Thanksgiving rush — to ensure that TSOs are not being left to fend for themselves.”

“Our concern is that the public not confuse the people implementing the policies with the people who developed the policies,” said Sharon Pinnock, the union's director of membership and organization.

“Our concern is that the public not confuse the people implementing the policies with the people who developed the policies,”

Your concern is meaningless, as those who develop the policies are not accountable. But those placing their hands on my body are.

Why aren’t they striking? Where’s the job action? Where’s the sit-in? Sounds like the need a community organizer to lead them.....oh wait...

“against the character and professionalism of TSO”

If they had character and professionalism, they'd work in a job where they weren't forced to compromise their ethics by groping 3-year-olds.

My $0.02 only.

America has had enough of Captain Zero and his Tough $hit America agency. Lets shut down the airline industry by making America a no fly zone.

Bush and the GOP (the ones who came up with the idea of the TSA and federalizing the formerly minimum-wage earrning screeners) would pass right through the screening process because they are elected officials and as such do not have to obey the same laws as us 'little people'

Bush didn’t come up with these pat downs. But perhaps you are choosing to give bammy a pass on this issue.

If the TSA continues dishing out mocking abuse to American citizens as well as foreign tourists, the public backlash shall intensify and hopefully many of these abusers will be brought up on serious legal charges and convicted by juries, including passengers they already abused.

It seems that your recollection of Bush being responsible for the TSA leaves out a whole bunch of facts and a whole bunch of tampering by the Democrat Congress.
An upgrade of private screeners, within constitutional guidelines caused congress to demand the formation of the TSA and a whole new set of guide lines to insure that misery was felt by the general traveling public rather than the targeted terrorists and finally, a push to unionize them to insure money for their buddies and that these people would never be held accountable for anything. Bush derangement syndrome is so overrated.

Sorry but no pity for them here. If they felt it was wrong to do this, they should resign or fight it, instead of meekly “only following orders.”

That excuse don’t cut it.

None of the idiots that put all this in place ever have to fly with us peons. They are going to ruin the airline industry.

They need to be encouraged to go on strike on Wednesday.

” the TSA body scan/search controversy that now rages in America,”

I think the TSA BS is a diversion to get us to not pay attention to everything else that’s going on. As I said on an earlier thread;

“If they have us asking the wrong questions, they don’t have to worry about the answers.” A “Pynchonism.”

It’s a smokescreen to keep us busy while other cr@p slips under the radar!
