Carly Fiorina Vs. Barbara Boxer
LA Weekly ^ | Oct 14 2010 | Patrick Range McDonald

Posted on 10/16/2010 3:05:47 PM PDT by LonelyCon

Running as a flat-out conservative, is Carly crazy, or crazy like a fox?

...Whether stunningly stupid or daringly smart, the Republican challenger is operating an unorthodox campaign by running in California as a true-blue conservative who embraces, and wants to keep energized, right-leaning voters who equate Boxer supporters to a bunch of capitalism-hating communists.

From opposing abortion and gay marriage to supporting offshore drilling and a big oil–funded ballot measure that would suspend California's global climate-change law, Fiorina is the real deal for conservatives. She even backs Arizona's controversial immigration law. But in California, where Democrats make up 44 percent of registered voters, Republicans make up 31 percent and 20 percent are "decline to states," who tend to lean a bit liberal, that's a risky strategy.

"Fiorina's views are significantly out of step with the key voters she needs to win over," says Democratic consultant Darry Sragow. "With her conservative views, she's not going to get three-quarters of the independent vote."

On the other hand, says Republican consultant Reed Galen, "We're in a highly volatile, highly anti-incumbent environment right now, and that's to Carly's benefit."

For one thing, California Republicans appear more energized than Democrats to vote on Nov. 2. Says Galen: "The regular dynamics of California politics are out the window this year because of the economy."

Forgot to type my own post :)

More of this, please. Fiornia is within the margin of error on most polls. Yes, you can win even in California as a conservative. You don’t have to be a pro-abort RINO to take this state.

Fiorina is far from being conservative IMO.

She is just more conservative than a box of rocks.

FReeper Mark Levin really lit into Boxer on his nationally syndicated radio show last night, denouncing her unbelievable claim that she voted for more than a trillion dollars in tax cuts over her time in the Senate, including those tax cuts allegedly part of the "stim."

Levin also gave Boxer a new nickname. Heretofore "Barbara Chihuahua," she's now "Queen Leftina."

She is pro life, anti-tax and anti spend, anti-illegal immigration. What is not to like

I am not a Fiorina fan (but neither do I live in California). Anyhow, Barbara Bow-wow has got to go, for the good of the country. Once Bow-wow is out of office, let’s let Fiorina prove herself. Keep in mind the big picture at this time:

Potestas Democraturum delenda est.

The power of the Democratic Party must be destroyed.

Fiorina is within 1% in the latest poll.

Running for office and governing as ‘rat lite’ has gotten us into quite a mess. Conservative ideals and principals are the only hope to start to straighten things out. Don't budge or wiggle, Carly...stay STRONG!

Thanks justiceseeker93. I love how there’s a Democratic consultant quoted as an authority on the situation. Partisan media shills suck.

For years I have argued with others from outside CA who think a candidate with a conservative message cannot win here.

I guess we'll soon find out who is right.

running in California as a true-blue conservative

That’s the way to win. If you don’t believe it, ask Lisa Murkowski, Mike Castle, Arlen Specter, Charlie Crist....need I continue?

LOL. Only the LA Weekly could say such a thing with a straight face.

Are there any people who pay attention and don't equate Boxer supporters to a bunch of capitalism-hating communists? The only question is whether supporting communism is a good thing or a bad thing, and all real Americans (a minority in CA but an energized minority) know that answer.

If she is running as a conservative, she’s angling to run for Prez.

Even Boxer and Brown are trying to run as kinda sorta conservatives, so explain to me, my friends at the Times, how it’s such a horrible thing that Carly should.

She just ran an ad telling us she will vote against the GOP when "her party is wrong", i.e., when it's a big fat meanie.

I was disgusted. She's trying to blow it. If she pisses off the conservatives, she can't win. If she stays conservative, and sells her message, and Boxer's incompetence, she can.

Smart move on her part. She could pick up a point or two from the “moderates” and win. It is ALL about winning and taking the Senate. Remember, the ruling party controls all of the committees and, a little know fact, the ruling party gets to hire 2/3rds of each committee staff and the losing party only gets to hire 1/3rd of the staff. Think about this during the bill drafting process!

Besides, she committed to nothing.
