Report: Insubordinate McChrystal Called Back to Washington for White House Meeting
Tuesday, June 22, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on 06/22/2010 4:07:18 AM PDT by kristinn

NBC News' Savannah Guthrie reports this morning that Gen. Stanley McChrystal is being called to Washington for a meeting at the White House tomorrow in the wake of a Rolling Stone article that has exposed McChrystal and his staff as mockingly disrespectful of their civilian overseers, including their commander-in-chief President Barack Obama.

Guthrie posted at Twitter:

McChrystal has been ordered to the Sit Rom tomorrow to explain his stmts criticizing admin officials to Rolling Stone to POTUS in person 15 minutes ago via UberTwitter

Guthrie added: "McChrystal has been calling around town apologizing to officials."

The Atlantic reported late last night that McChrystal had been called by numerous top officials last night:

Within hours after today's Rolling Stone story broke, McChrystal was called by the White House, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They were not happy.

The Atlantic also notes that McChrystal never completely had the trust of the Obama administration:

Even though McChrystal voted for Obama and told him so during their first meeting, he sensed that a number of senior White House aides didn't really believe that the former commander of the military's special missions unit during the Bush-Cheney years was suddenly on their side. National Security Adviser James Jones, who is a bit of cipher to McChrystal's team, may or may not have been one of these aides. No one in the West Wing bought all that liberal internet chatter about JSOC's alleged crimes -- but no one really didn't buy it, either.

This is PR disaster for Obama.

McChrystal knew exactly what he was doing. There was wonderment in DC as to when and if some general/flag officer was going to fall on his sword and go after Obama. This may be it.

Regardless of what happens now, Obama can not win this one.

Any public comments could grow into Olliver North 2.0

Then according to the military oath, American military officers are required to conduct a putsch against Obama.

I mean he clearly is a traitor and threat to the United States.

Just say’n the facts, folks :-)

It is incumbent for the general staff to speak up in this never ending war when this president puts concrete galoshes on our troops that gets them unnecessarily killed. Too many here think you salute say yes sure and bend-over to follow stupid orders that will get you killed. The guy in the White House is not a king. Someone needs to man up.

If McChrystal disagrees with the President, he needs to resign his commission and then say so. He cannot openly mock a President while still on active duty, period.

That the President in question is an incompetent boob with delusions of godhood is irrelevant.

That the President in question is going to seriously compromise the war effort is irrelevant.

Criticism of the President and his policies must come from outside the military, never within.

Totally true, up to the point the Officer does it all on purpose, with the expectation of throwing his career away, for the good of the troops, when that is the only course left.

"General McCrystal and Congressman Joe Barton were both right and honest. Obama is losing in both Iraq and the Afghan nation and the POTUS Obama has no right to demand extortion from a private company, even though BP should be torn to shreds for incompetency. But....so to should Obama and his failed administration for giving green light permits to BP to move forward with a hazardous situation. BP should be drained of every cent and Obama should be forced to resign or be impeached. I wonder when the American people are going to wake up and realize that POTUS Barack Hussein Obama hates these United States and...that he and his traitor Democrat Party are doing everything they can to destroy America and all her people!!!"

Yes, but both of them committed the sin of saying what they mean and then apologizing. Maybe McCrystal should retire for groveling and apologizing. He will now do the apology circuit, be humiliated, and have his reputation destroyed and undermine any good he could have done.

We don’t live in normal times. We have not been run by communists who hate and wish to destroy our nation.

We have to get out of the box of tradition to save this country. Rules such as this offer protection to the communists. They need to have their rotting intentions dragged into the daylight and a stake drove through their treachery.

I’m starting to wonder what we do when you have a totally insane traitorous usurper as president who no longer even fakes like he is pro-American, and a buffoon for VP. Does it become a civil war? Sadly, nothing will happen. 46% still strongly side with the president, the press will spin it a certain way and by the end of the week a majority will see it the Administrations way. Those of us who are so strongly against what is happening in America voice it loud and clear here, but sadly most Americans are completely unaware of what is happening and are just following Obama because they still believe his hype from the election - Useful idiots. I still believe November elections aren't going to be the blow-out the GOP hopes for - I've lost faith in the American voter.

“Obama throws everyone under the bus.”

He’s kinda like Darth Varder killing off his admirals in Star Wars.

I may be wrong, but a General’s choice for a Retirement Speech to Congress, CANNOT be denied.

You're wrong. Nobody is guaranteed a right to address a joint session of Congress. Even the president has to request permission to address Congress for the State of the Union. And while permission is never refused him, the same can't be said of any Tom, Dick, or General who has a hankering to talk to the inmates of the zoo.

Yes, he could do just that. But he did not. Thus, the original question: “Does anyone give a damn about the young men who are dying and being mutilated for this nation?

I wonder? Maybe McChrystal will now.

For that reason alone, he needs to go and spend more time with his family.

Perhaps 0bama should call a 6 month moratorium on the war and appoint a panel to study it.

Yes, it could be Mac wants to use the incident to throw his combat boots in the ring to become our next Caesar. I mean the man is clearly a good national socialist.
