BEIRUT – The leader of Lebanon's Hezbollah group warned Tuesday that his fighters would attack Israeli ships in the Mediterranean if the Jewish state imposes a sea blockade on Lebanon in any future war.

Hassan Nasrallah said his Iranian-backed group is now capable of destroying any military or commercial ships heading to Israeli ports.

Hezbollah and Israel fought a 34-day war in 2006 during which Israel imposed a sea and air embargo on Lebanon, saying it needed to prevent the guerrillas from being resupplied with weapons.

Nasrallah said Tuesday that Hezbollah now had the capability to inflict as much harm on Israel as it did in Lebanon during the 2006 war.

Hezbollah has a hard time hitting a town, much less a small moving target like a ship. Unless they picked up the Russian or Chinese equivalent of a Harpoon missile, they would be lucky to hit the Mediterranean.

Iran has provided them with what amounts to a Chinese built Exocet. It will take out anything in the Israeli fleet if it can get a hit. In the last Lebanon war one of the took out a patrol boat because they had their anti missile system turned off.

If you remember, a few months ago, Israel warned Syria that it considers Hezbollah a direct client of theirs.

Syria better assume Israel has more than a few Standard Missile 3's ready to launch at Syrian targets with precision and electronic countermeasures.

One used up it's fuel to blow up an orbiting satellite. There will be a lot of fuel left plus the warhead to create big holes in Syrian targets.
