GRAND ISLE, La. - Jefferson Parish Emergency managers say they have commandeered all of BP's hired boats in Grand Isle.
A representative for Jefferson Parish Emergency chief Deano Bonano said they requested immediate action after oil moved into the marsh passes and onto the beaches in Grand Isle.
He said more than 40 boats were sitting idle while he watched the oil rush into the passes.
At around 5:30 p.m., Jefferson Councilman Chris Roberts confirmed the boats have been commandeered by JP emergency managers.
Unless they were heavily armed, i would not allow any parrish puke on my boat...
Nagin’s Chocolate jackboot thugs?
Wow, this country is going into an all-out “The people shall rise up and confiscate the filthy capitalists’s property!” tizzy.
...Not even Deano Bonano? Where's your humanity man? /s
no, that part of JP is mostly Cajun.
don’t expect Jindal to stop them. He sounded pretty rash today himself.
I thought 0bozo had control of the situation? Does this mean the JP actually commandeered BP’s boats from him?
all I know is if anyone tries to stop them I think there’d be an armed insurrection. I’ve never seen anger like this, and these are normally very conservative people. They’re mad at everybody. Obama, BP, the coast guard, you name it. I wouldn’t walk around in public wearing a BP cap right now.
WERE they idle?
Can you blame people that just watched 1500 idle school busses that would have helped evacuate a lot of people, and some 1000 or so mobile homes allowed to rot .. idle ...
if I was an official that watched oil come on my shore while a company that could and should use the means that they have, won't ...
Me too ... I'd take 'em and do the job myself.
Maybe we in FreeRepublic only talk about what we'd do if ....
If I misread the story, all those above remarks are null and void.
Actually I think Barry0 does have control insofar as he has orchestrated pointing the finger of blame at BP. He’s got Sharpton up in Detroit trying to fan the flames there and numerous hirelings working on inciting insurrection in AZ. One of these fires of his is liable to take off before long.
I wouldn't say you had misread this story. But it's just one article.
Obama forms spill commission as oil mess spreadsTo: bunkerhill7
obama seems to forget thats he is the president (not legally of course). FEMA has had a plan in effect to handle such a incident since 1994 (clintons watch). Fema was required to react rapidly (first day) with oil booms to contain the oil and burn it. Had this plan been put in effect no oil would have gotten within a 100 miles of the coast. Who's fault was it that FEMA did not react until 9 DAYS later and then found out it did not have the necessary equipement. This happened on obama's watch , that makes him 100% responable for the lack of responce and a poorly equiped FEMA. obama needs to grow some balls and admit it's his fault. Blaming Bush a year and a half after he left office is childish.
It will be interesting to see how this crisis affects Jindal’s attitudes toward topics which are normally considered “liberal”—environment, alternative energy, conservation, anti drill, drill, drill, etc.
How are these boats supposed to help stop the spill?
What happened to the “necessary equipment” that FEMA was supposed to have? Did Bush never order any, or was it disbursed in some way when he left office?
I don’t know where it was when Bush was President. Barry0 has been President for sixteen months so his excuses have run out.
“numerous hirelings working on inciting insurrection in AZ”
Would you elaborate, please? It is certainly believable - would like to know specifics if you have them. Thanks.
Have you seen pictures of the thick oil on the Grand Isle beach? I have. If those boats are idle, then someone is going to use them to try to mitigate the damage.
It’s got nothing at all to do with hating capitalism for these people. In fact, they’re trying to protect their own capitalist interests.
Oh, and, according to a friend who is down there, “We are still able to fish our local waters so the whole gulf coast is looking to us to supply them. Theoretically that would be great, but BP has commandeered many of the vessels.” (from an email the other day.)
So don’t be too quick to judge these people from your keyboard.
