Volcano cloud smothers Europe
ABC News ^ | April 15, 2010 | Rachael Brown

A huge plume of drifting ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland has disrupted air traffic across much of northern and western Europe, stranding tens of thousands of air passengers.

The entire airspace in the UK, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden is closed, there are partial closures in France, and Finland has closed all airports except Helsinki-Vantaa. Flights to and from Australia have been cancelled, and thousands of other Europe-bound passengers from Asia and the United States have been left stranded.

The volcano began erupting on Wednesday (local time) for the second time in a month from below the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in the south of Iceland, and an Icelandic volcanologist says the eruption is growing more intense.

It is estimated that between 4,000 and 5,000 flights were affected on Thursday as a plume of grey ash up to 10 kilometres high blew across the Atlantic, closing major airports more than 2,100 kilometres away.

...It is the first time in living memory that a natural disaster has caused such a halt, a spokeswoman for Britain's National Air Traffic Service (NATS) says.

...The European air safety organisation says the disruption, the biggest seen in the region, could last another two days, and a leading volcano expert says the ash could present intermittent problems to air traffic for six months if the eruption continues.

One consolation for stranded commuters is that there will be a vibrant sunset and purple moon, as the ash particles scatter the sunlight.

Consolation? I doubt it!!

When can we deem the eruption over and go on with business. Can't Obama-commie just it give a teleprompter seance or something.

This is really an inconvenient truth, because volcanoes blow aerosols into the atmosphere in ways only man can dream up, and it makes things cold as it goes round and round.

Megan Kelly of Fox News did a report on this Volcano about two weeks ago. The report claimed the volcano could eventually effect the entire globe.

That's more pollution than all the output from cars and factories combined.

More proof that global warming is a scam and mankind has no control over the powers of God's creation.

How much ash cloud does it take to screw up this year’s crops in Canada, Russia and the northern USA?
What happened in the grain futures market?

It is usually jammed, right?
This is kind of spooky, but heck, who wants to try to fly through a huge cloud of ash?

Scientists say the ash does not pose any health threat because it is at such a high altitude.

One consolation for stranded commuters is that there will be a vibrant sunset and purple moon, as the ash particles scatter the sunlight.

When the Iceland volcano Laki erupted in 1783, the following winter was so cold that Charleston harbor froze over. Some consolation.

Any bets on which DemocRAT politician will be the first to say that this eruption was caused by “global warming”?

We have gorgeous sunsets in SoCal when wildfires are burning, but they’re hardly a consolation. Sheesh!!

It doesn’t take much to boggle the mind of a liberal. Must never heard the phrase — Iceland, land of fire and ice. I think that means the volcanoes supply the fire.

You can try, ask them how the Antarctic, at and average temperature of 40 below, will melt if the temperature goes up by 0.5 degree.
