The check comes back stamped “Insufficient Funds — Not You, But Us”
Advice from someone who knows nothing about banking:
Close your Citibank account immediately and transfer your money to a reputable local bank.
An early April Fool's Day joke???
Citibank is a ratbag sh*t bank. Thank CRA, community organaizers, Fannie/Freedie, Barney, Dodd, Obama, Cl;inton, Cong Black Caucus, World Savings akak Sandlers for destroying the banking system.
Agreed.
If they go down I’ll be dancing in the street.
Beat me to it!
Their telling you you can’t have YOUR money , like some of the states and the feds are telling you, you may not get your refunds on time! Time to get out! Take your money close your accounts and change your deductions so thier not holding YOUR money! Starve the beast
Wasn’t Citi given a massive infusion of capital as part of the bailout? Wasn’t it one of those financial institutions that was “too big to fail.”
I guess they’re not too big to fail to give you the money you deposit.
Why bother, within six months all banks will adopt the same policy. It will be like the airline industry, when one starts something new all follow soon thereafter.
Switch banks before April 1.
“OUR MISSION
Why are we doing this?
At TDECU, we are dedicating a small portion of our annual advertising budget to this important public service educational campaign.
In the mid-1990s out-of-state banks, with taxpayer-supported FDIC subsidies, descended on Texas like carpetbaggers descended on Texas after the Civil War.
Locally-owned Texas banks and credit unions had to compete with these government-subsidized banking giants who took over the deposits of Texans while calling in loans that forced many Texas companies out of business.
Now many of these same banks are themselves in trouble. This time the federal agencies did not let these giant non-Texas fail as they did our Texas banks back in the 1990s. Today, the federal treasury, using taxpayer money, is propping up these troubled, giant banks with virtually no-cost taxpayer money.
Once again, local Texas banks and credit unions are forced to compete with government-subsidized national giants.
Just recently the FDIC facilitated the sale of a $13 Billion Texas bank to Spain of all places. Now were not being taken over by out-of state banks, but European-controlled banks as well. Even the liberal New York Times admits that American taxpayers are going to shoulder the burden of this sale of a Texas bank to a foreign power. Read the article here.
These institutions dont give a damn about Texas.
Weve had enough.
If youve had enough too, we ask you to tell your friends, family and business associates and ask them to spread the word.
If youve really had enough, think about moving all your money to a locally-owned credit union or bank.
By moving your money, youll be sending a clear message to those large out-of-town banks and youll be getting the great service you deserve from local people you know and trust,

My bank won’t. They never sold a mortgage, they never got a government bailout, and they have a positive balance sheet, thank you very much. Just running their banking business the old fashioned way.
Might I as the name of this bank?
Received in the mail today from Citi: “Effective April 1, 2010, an annual fee of $60 is being added.” This is for a Citi card which we have no balance. We will “opt out” and cancel said card.
Yeah well just wait til Obozo and company decide to confiscate your bank’s funds and raid their safe deposit boxes and see how long they remain solvent.
There are plenty of good local banks in this country. They aren’t named Citi, Wells Fargo, Commerce, Bank of America.
They usually are the 1st National Bank of (Podunk).
Can a bank account be closed, online?
I have money in a Citi account, in the United States, but I am in Australia.
I hope I am not required to physically go to the bank to close it.
