ADELAIDE, Australia — An anti-whaling activist from New Zealand is in custody on a Japanese vessel and will be taken to Japan to face charges after secretly boarding the ship as part of a protest, officials said Tuesday.

Peter Bethune, a member of the U.S.-based Sea Shepherd activist group, jumped aboard the Shonan Maru 2 from a Jet Ski on Monday with the stated goal of making a citizen's arrest of the ship's captain and presenting him with a $3 million bill for the destruction of a protest ship last month.

The Japanese government has decided to bring Bethune to Japan for questioning, Fisheries Agency official Osamu Ishikawa said. He will be charged with trespassing and assault and tried under Japanese law, Ishikawa said.

From article...

“Under Japanese law, intruding on a Japanese vessel without legitimate reasons can bring a prison term of up to three years and a fine up to 100,000 yen (US$1,100).

“Bethune was being held in a room by himself with guards posted outside, Fisheries Ministry official Toshinori Uoya said.

It's a hard call on this one. I like whales better than japs (12/7/41 anyone?), but loathe the fag fruits in greenpeace/earthfirst et al.

Please don’t use “japs”. It makes you look small.

Are there no courts for Maritime Law anymore? It seems like acts of piracy would be dealt with that way.

The japanese destroy marine mammals. I tend to like whales and dolphins better myself.

I just read an article that said there is a good chance Bottlenose dolphins could provide the cure for Type 2 diabetes, but invasive tests will not be conducted because the animals are too intelligent. There’s no desire to make a dolphin a lab animal, because scientists all love dolphins too much.

3.2 million people die a year from type II diabetes and we will not risk the life of an intelligent fish for testing. It is a strange world where a few dolphins deaths are greater than 3.2 million people.

Too bad Japan (Asia really) has such a depraved culture that they would continue their whaling/dolphin hunts.

I’m going to assume that LouAvul might be in my age group. We were raised with Japs and Krauts as the bad guys, and probably couldn’t change if we wanted to.
