LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Gov. Mike Beebe has declared a state of emergency for Arkansas as a winter storm moves into the state with ice and snow.
A winter storm warning is in effect for much of the state with snow totals up to a foot expected in the north and up to 2 inches possible in central Arkansas. Ice accumulations are expected to reach up to a quarter inch for most of the state.

More global warming.
Six inches of snow over a 1/4” of ice here near Jackson, TN.
But, now, it's turned, back to the colder winters, once again. It's related to us being in a Dalton Minimum-type of period (with the Sunspots) and how that affects the radiation from outer space in "cloud formation"...
That's what is causing this recent downturn and colder winter weather that we're having... and it's the cosmic radiation being able to reach the earth easier, from the solar winds being slower than normal. The cosmic radiation is the main factor in cloud formation and that's what causing the cooler weather recently.
Is it predicted to arc up north? If so, how far up until it heads over the Atlantic?
I don't know too much about that, as I've been concentrating on us in Oklahoma... :-)

Well..., as I say to a lot of people -- "it is winter, ya know..." LOL...
But, aside from that fact, I've noticed it much colder over 20 years ago and warmer the last 20 years (after the prior 20 years). So, there has been some warming up.
The "problem" though is that it always warms up and it always cools down -- and that doesn't make it to be "Anthropogenic Global Warming". So, I don't have a problem with the weather warming up or it cooling down -- because that's normal... :-)

Six inches of snow over a 1/4” of ice here near Jackson, TN.
Already huh? We haven't finished with it here in Oklahoma, and we're supposed to be getting some six or seven inches of snow today into this evening. We've already gotten our 1/4-1/3 inch of ice (in the Tulsa area) earlier from yesterday and early this morning.
Over in Western Oklahoma, they were reporting about 2 to 3-1/2 inches of ice ... hoo-boy!
Got back about 10 minutes ago from picking up the kids from school...oldest daughter said that some kids left before lunch. It’s now a mixture of snow and rain and miserable. I noticed the Catholic school next door letting out as we pulled up (yes, my kids go to another Catholic school with another one literally outside our front door—go figure). I didn’t see the public school on the other side of us letting out, but maybe they already did or will soon.
Saw the ambulance (from the station down the block) go out on a run as I left to pick up the kids...probably not the last time today, I’m sure!
Looks as if it’s moving straight east, at least for now. We have about 2 inches of snow at Lake of the Ozarks in mid Missouri.
We're all hunkered down anticipating a nice comfort meal of corned beef and cabbage IF the power stays on, LOL.

A dangerous and disruptive storm will spread heavy snow and ice from the southern Plains through the mid-South through tonight, leading to more major problems with long-lasting power outages, widespread tree damage and extremely hazardous travel, according to AccuWeather forecaster Meghan Evans.
Up to a foot of snow will pile up on the storm's northern edge from southern Missouri and northern Arkansas through southern Kentucky and northern Tennessee.
Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Nashville, Tenn., are among the cities and towns that will get the heaviest snow.
The storm will continue to have a major impact on travel on Interstate 40, a major east-west trucking thoroughfare.
The zone of heavy icing to the south will cause the most trouble and damage from this storm.
Memphis and Little Rock will lie in icy zone today, but a changeover to snow is expected to occur in Little Rock overnight.
Snow falling on top of areas like central Oklahoma that were already pounded be heavy icing will keep travel extremely dangerous.
Stretches of I-40 and I-44 were both shut down in portions of the southern Plains by late Thursday due to heavy accumulations of ice. Other portions of I-40 could close as the heavy snow and ice spread farther east.
Flight delays and cancellations will persist in the South Central until the storm moves away late tonight.
The weight of ice will continue to knock down trees and power lines as the storm advances. Gusty winds accompanying the storm are also adding extra stress to trees and power lines from the southern Plains to the mid-South.
More than 50,000 homes and businesses in Oklahoma alone were without power as of early Friday, and some locations could be in the dark for days.
Tonight into Saturday, snow will advance eastward, reaching all the way to the southern mid-Atlantic Coast, blanketing parts of northern North Carolina and southern Virginia with as much as a foot of snow. Charlotte will get a mix of rain, freezing rain and sleet followed by snow.
The combination of wintry precipitation, and in some cases plunging temperatures following the rain, will make untreated roads and sidewalks extremely treacherous in the wake of the storm.

Yep, that's the key. Apparently over a quarter of a million people out of power here in Oklahoma (that's an estimate from over 140,000 accounts with no power). The weather is nice to look at, as long as you still have power...
With all this increase in wintery weather the last few years, maybe an investment in a power generator would be in order, I'm thinking... :-)

Yep, it was rain (here) for the latter part of the day yesterday, which promptly froze on everything... :-)
And now we've finally transitioned into the straight snow with nothing else and it's really starting to stack up pretty good now. The weather center in Tulsa says that it could be about an inch an hour for a while, at times.
I'm guessing you'll have snow on the "backside" of the storm, like we're having too... so snow will be coming.
