Sarah Palin: Midnight Votes, Backroom Deals, and a Death Panel
Sarah Palin Facebook ^ | Dec 22, 2009 | Bigtigermike

Posted on 12/22/2009 7:57:09 PM PST by Bigtigermike

Last weekend while you were preparing for the holidays with your family, Harry Reid’s Senate was making shady backroom deals to ram through the Democrat health care take-over. The Senate ended debate on this bill without even reading it. That and midnight weekend votes seem to be standard operating procedures in D.C. No one is certain of what’s in the bill, but Senator Jim DeMint spotted one shocking revelation regarding the section in the bill describing the Independent Medicare Advisory Board (now called the Independent Payment Advisory Board), which is a panel of bureaucrats charged with cutting health care costs on the backs of patients – also known as rationing. Apparently Reid and friends have changed the rules of the Senate so that the section of the bill dealing with this board can’t be repealed or amended without a 2/3 supermajority vote. Senator DeMint said:

“This is a rule change. It’s a pretty big deal. We will be passing a new law and at the same time creating a senate rule that makes it out of order to amend or even repeal the law. I’m not even sure that it’s constitutional, but if it is, it most certainly is a senate rule. I don’t see why the majority party wouldn’t put this in every bill. If you like your law, you most certainly would want it to have force for future senates. I mean, we want to bind future congresses. This goes to the fundamental purpose of senate rules: to prevent a tyrannical majority from trampling the rights of the minority or of future congresses.”

In other words, Democrats are protecting this rationing “death panel” from future change with a procedural hurdle. You have to ask why they’re so concerned about protecting this particular provision. Could it be because bureaucratic rationing is one important way Democrats want to “bend the cost curve” and keep health care spending down?

"A “lottery” to see who gets care is enough to ration care. "

The Lottery....wasn't that a Twilight Zone episode? Can't remember if it was once a year, they would hold a "lottery" to see who would die, to keep the town going. Something like that.

Anyone else remember seeing that?

'Actually I think that Oprah was pretty instrumental in getting the ONE elected."

The only thing that got barry elected was his skin color.

Nice sentiment, but I prefer Queen Esther

Lol, I have been calling Sarah our modern day Esther since she 1st broke out into the lower 48!!

Some FReepers thought she was more like Deborah. She certainly does seem like Deborah, however, when I see or hear Sarah, I think of Esther.

Think about it......we fully expect to hear Sarah on the major subjects of the day, but we don’t hear much coming out from the other so called leaders in the conservative movement

Hmmmmm!!

The fact that 5% and maybe 10% if we knew all that went on of the senate had to be bribed to pass the bill.

I heard on WSB this morning in Atlanta that there were some 3000 lobbyists working the halls in regards to the health care bills. So that's roughly 5.5 lobbyists per Congress Critter. Also heard some $40M in lobby money has been spent. Wow!

Deborah led an army whom God was with (Judges 4) to a victory over a superior foe.

Esther saved her own people from a magistrate intent on all their deaths.

I guess I hope Sarah is a bit of both.

“Haven’t seen that before. Is this hot off the backhoe press?”

Shucks, I wish I could claim it, but like all the graphics I post, I saw it elsewhere and err, “borrowed” it— I first used it during the election here:

I remember that one! I just googled “the Lottery” episode...it was The Sliders, not Twilight Zone.

why do they stop at a 2/3 supermajority for future Congresses to change it?

why not require a unanimous vote?

disgusting that they ram this through without even debating it...

I feel sorry for you.

Don't bother. I'm not going to embrace the accomplishments of any racist, especially one that uses her influence to deceive her viewers. Do you honestly believe Oprah would have filled those stadiums with her gullible supporters on behalf of any OTHER candidate? I have family members buried in Arlington, and we now have an administration in Washington that despises their sacrifice. Oprah helped put that administration in place. Blinded by ideology? Guess I am. Palin honors the memories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and that alone makes her more accomplished than Oprah in my mind. Sorry...we just strongly disagree, but don't feel sorry for me. Not one bit.
