NASA Discovers A Ring Around The Solar System
NPR ^ | October 18, 2009 | unknown

NASA scientists have discovered a mysterious ribbon around our solar system —- a stripe made of hydrogen —- that defies all current expectations about what the edge of the solar system might look like.

Richard Fisher, the director of NASA's Heliophysics Division, tells NPR's Guy Raz that this discovery is a big moment for the scientific community. "We thought we knew everything about everything, and it turned out that there were unknown unknowns."

It turns out we live in a gated community. Note also that now it's ok to quote Rumsfeld.

"There are things we know we know, and that's helpful to know you know something. There are things we know we don't know. And that's really important to know, and not think you know them, when you don't. But the tricky ones are the ones - the unknown unknowns - the things we don't know we don't know. They're the ones that can get you in a bucket of trouble." ------- Donald Rumsfeld

"We thought we knew everything about everything, and it turned out that there were unknown unknowns."

That first clause is the biggest problem I have with what passes itself off as "science" today.

Sorry....

Quite interesting. I’ll have to admit to taking many scientific discoveries and theories with a grain of salt though. The original theories on many subjects have morphed with time. So these things are interesting, but so will be the next revelation on this issue, and how it alters what we are sure we know now.

I’ve heard that NPR floats. NASA still hasn’t discovered that toilet bowl ring around NPR.
