Eight American soldiers and two Afghans have been killed in an attack on two outposts in remote eastern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said on Sunday.

A tribal militia launched the attack from a mosque and a nearby village in Nuristan, one of the most dangerous regions of Afghanistan, the U.S. military said in a statement. The Americans and Afghans repelled the attack and "inflicted heavy enemy casualties," the statement said.

In the U.S. statement, Col. Randy George described it as "a complex attack in a difficult area." The Taliban claimed responsibility.

None of us does this for praises. We do it because it needs doing. And besides: No one said it couldn’t be done!

Indeed.

When confronted with truth, bloviaters often run and hide. I think the Code Pink analysis, based on his posts, was pretty much on the money.

Don't let the troops do their job. Use their broken bodies to promote U.S. defeat.

Cowardice.

Kinda makes one wonder how sympathetic he was to the wounded men and women he claims to have visited. He was probably run out of the room being chased by Vets in wheelchairs.

Code Pink is pretty quiet now that Zero is in office. Except for those few pitiful souls who try to make waves here. *kof-kof*

This is like Vietnam redux (I was a teenager during Vietnam, so I remember the events) - but with the difference that this president actively hates us. Nixon was verging on being a RINO by that time, and with the election of a Democrat House and Senate in 1973 which immediately began to press for withdrawal from Vietnam, didn’t have any support to pursue the war. However, he didn’t hate his own country and want it to lose, and in fact suggested various strategies for winning and driving the Communists out of Vietnam.

As usual, however, the press was doing its best to undermine the US, and with the My Lai and Green Berets sensationalism they effectively undermined popular support for the war by depicting us as evil baby-killers. No mention of the millions of babies and adults killed by the Communists, but of course, that’s different. Can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs...

Isn't it the CIC decision when it comes to the rules of engagement?

You can see it. Its obvious. He has no dog in this fight. Its just not his country.

My son is 17. He is forbidden to join the services until we have an American president.

You are so right and glad you told your son that. I am so happy my Daughter and son-in-law got out of the Navy over three years ago. Cannot fathom having a relative in the military right now.

You are right this is not his Country and becoming more evident by the day!

Presuming he actually visited any troops (which is doubtful), I’m quite sure his negative attitude toward what they were doing was hurtful.

We’ll probably pull the troops out. President Obama will order us to pull the troops out probably around ‘11 just in time for total withdrawal by the election season in ‘12.

We don't disagree. Perhaps I should have confined myself to the main point that QST is not operational in the western part of the political boundaries of Afghanistan and that the attack in this case seems more likely to have originated with the Iranian Qods, that it seems unlikely to have been otherwise. If it were Mullah Omar's Quetta Sura Taliban that led such a seemingly uncharacteristic attack on U.S. forces stationed in the west, this would be a headline in of itself.

As to supporting those operating in Iran politically under a Green banner, I agree that the U.S. ought to be supporting their efforts by all means. Unfortunately, it is difficult to imagine this administration supporting needed operations in support of the opposition arising out of the stolen election last summer. It is difficult to understand what this administration does support, other than what might potentially be perceived as even a momentary political advantage for this president.

As in the past, events seem likely force the administration to eventually make choices between alternatives none of which will seem to serve such purposes.
