Cape Town - A controversial former member of the American congress and a 2008 presidential candidate, Cynthia McKinney, was abruptly removed from a South African Airways flight on Tuesday.
McKinney, who stood against President Barack Obama at an early stage in the race for the US presidency, was barred from boarding an SAA flight to Johannesburg in Washington DC.
She would have travelled to South Africa to act as international guest speaker on the Channel 4 network's first Palestinian Struggle and Human Spirit film festival, which will be held in Athlone from Friday to Sunday.
Passport irregularities
According to SAA, McKinney was refused access to the flight because there were irregularities with her passport.
She became known worldwide when, in her capacity as senator, she introduced articles of impeachment against former US president George W Bush, former vice-president Dick Cheney, and former secretary of state Condaleezza Rice, over the 9/11 attacks and their roles in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.
McKinney was recently arrested by the Israeli navy for participating in a Free Gaza Movement boat trip in protest against the occupation of Gaza.
Channel 4 said on Wednesday it is still unclear whether she will be allowed to enter the country.
A Senator? Thanks. I was scratching my head as well.
LOL...I noticed that too.
lulz!
I dunno. She always seemed so stable to me.
hahahhaaaaa
A lack of blank pages in the passport of former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney was the reason for South African Airways' refusal to allow her to board a flight to South Africa on Tuesday...SAA confirmed the incident saying she did not have the required number of blank pages in her passport to travel.
SAA's Head Group Corporate Affairs, Robyn Chalmers said the Airline understands the inconvenience to the passenger involved but could not allow anyone with inadequate documentation to board a flight.
Wonder what she was trying to hide by tearing those pages out.
“A lack of blank pages in the passport”
This reminded me of that song that goes “ Hey Mr. Tally-man, Tally me bananas. One banana, Two banana” Etc. Etc.
I wonder how a passport would not have the amount of required pages.
Every time you enter a country, you go through passport control and they stamp your passport on the blank pages at the back. People tear out pages, if they don’t know how risky it is, in order to conceal their previous movements. If you get caught doing that, as she found out, you get stuck where you are. That airport person was on the ball.
So, the deal is, if you oppose Obama, you’re no longer on the A list. Your party no longer matters. It’s all Obama all the time!
She makes you proud to be an American doesn’t she....

The terrible thing about this woman is that she is a complete nut. A nut who was a U.S. member of Congress. What has this country come to?
You have to have a minimum of so many blank pages, usually three, in you passport to obtain permission to enter most countries. If you use your passport a lot you can run out of space quite easily. You then have to go to an American Embassy or Consulate overseas, or the Post Office stateside, get get more blank pages inserted into your passport. She obviously did not know this and found out the hard way.
What do they mean “passport irregularities?” Has it been revoked or not? This is too similar to Sen. Kerry preventing Sen. DeMint from going to Honduras. McKinny may be a nut but what is the real reason the 0bama administration prevented her from going to SA? I have to suspect everything now.
“I have to suspect everything now.”
You’re right to do that. I do, to.
passport irregularities?

Thanks. Normally I would have no benefit of the doubt left for Cynthia McKinney. If Bill Clinton had denied her free travel I would have said “smart move.” If George Bush had blocked her passport ... “just makes sense.” But this jug-eared communist liar? He’s such a whining control freak not even McKinney’s moonbatterie raises as much suspicion.
Cynthia McKinney, was abruptly removed from a South African Airways flight on Tuesday... According to SAA, McKinney was refused access to the flight because there were irregularities with her passportToo bad. They should have let her fly there, and give her one of Winnie's necklaces upon arrival.
Remember this?
From NPR website: April 4, 2006
U.S. Capitol Police are seeking charges of simple assault against Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) after an incident last week between McKinney and an officer at a security checkpoint. Police say the officer, not recognizing McKinney, asked her to stop and then touched her; they scuffled and she struck him in the chest with a cell phone. McKinney says she is a victim of inappropriate touching and racism.
