BOSTON - Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the liberal lion of the Senate and haunted bearer of the Camelot torch after two of his brothers fell to assassins' bullets, has died at his home in Hyannis Port after battling a brain tumor. He was 77.
For nearly a half-century in the Senate, Kennedy was a steadfast champion of the working class and the poor, a powerful voice on health care, civil rights, and war and peace. To the American public, though, he was best known as the last surviving son of America's most glamorous political family, the eulogist of a clan shattered again and again by tragedy.
His family announced his death in a brief statement released early Wednesday.
"We've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever," the statement said. "We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all."

Good morning, just heard from my season citizen mother of the passing of Sen.Kennedy. Safe to say it is going to be a love fest said of him.
There are lots of likable, evil people. Not everyone likes them but they have their friends and supporters regardless of what they do or have done. Even homicide.
That’s the problem: most evil people are mostly likable (except in the movies.) Most all the time what they do is fine. It’s that last 10-15% of important actions that are evil. They’re all over Washington DC and elsewhere.
I guess there’s one less now.

I’ll eulogize him.
Ted Kennedy, the fat bloated drunkard, was born into wealth and privilege that he never deserved, given a name that brought fame and glory that he never lived up to. A man who pretended to be a “champion of the poor” while he had nothing but contempt for the people.
He was a “champion of the poor” who wouldn’t give the poor the sweat off his back. He would give them the sweat off yours though. To leftists that made him a saint.
No RIP here, instead he can Rot for all eternity in a lake of fire,.
I can’t join in the media worship that’s going to take place over the next few weeks, but I can pray that he got himself right with God before the end, and feel condolence for his family.
His passing does mark the end of an era. For their legion of faults, his generation of Kennedys—John, Robert, and Ted—were larger than life, it seemed. The ones that have succeeded him are not. When the new “golden boy” of the next generation gets himself and his girlfriend killed by his own stupidity flying into conditions he can’t handle, and the next torch-carrier in line is Patrick Kennedy? Your dynasty’s fallen a long way.

In 100% agreement. I’m actually smiling a little.
Now he gets a chance before God to confront Mary Jo and explain why he ran away and left her to die.
John.
F'n.
Kerry.
RIP
I disagreed vociferously with the man and everything he stood for in the public arena, but I cannot rejoice in his death.
The Swimmer has passed beyond the final Buoy.
why do they call him a liberal “lion” when he was most definitely either a Walrus or a beached whale?
Now now...this ain’t the daily kos.
I didn’t like him for spit either...but we shouldn’t just dwell on the negative. We should find something positive to say...like “He was a good swimmer.”
Or “At least he had insurance...”
God will now be his judge.
Oh, wait.
She won't have a chance - just as surely as she is in heaven, he's in hell.
He was a liar but RIP.
My fondest memory of the swimmer is the day I saluted him with the middle finger of my right hand as he was getting into his limo in front of the Capitol.
