AARP, Losing Members Over Health Care, Faces Challenge From Grassroots Senior Advocacy Group
Fox News ^ | August 18, 2009

Look out AARP. There's a new senior advocacy group on the block offering a conservative alternative to seniors.

The Atlanta-based American Seniors Association (ASA), which is opposed to President Obama's health care plan, is trying to capitalize on growing public dissatisfaction with the AARP.

About 60,000 seniors have quit AARP since July 1 due to the group's support for health care reform, a spokesman for the organization said this week.

AARP is running ads to support a health care overhaul and hosted Obama at an online forum recently to promote his agenda to AARP members. But the group has not endorsed a specific bill and says it won't support a plan that reduces Medicare benefits.

Spokesman Drew Nannis told The Associated Press it wasn't unusual for the powerful, 40 million-strong senior citizens' lobby to shed members in droves when advocating for a controversial issue.

There is also another group, a conservative version of the AARP, called 60plus. I have noticed they are running commercials speaking out against the Obama health care reform. Anyone interested check them out at www.60plus.org

60,000 a day would be a good drop in membership. Maybe then the head of AARP will get the message.

When I first posted this article Thousands Quit AARP Over Health Reform (AARP Doesn't Care)I had about 350 hits on my blog from people searching for "AARP Alternative" or "American Seniors Association" or some variation thereof...the count is now over 2000.

People are desperate for an alternative and they are abandoning the AARP in droves. I believe this move is snowballing.

Death to the AARP, long live freedom!

And then there are those of us who are not members, but having turned 50 in the last year (and been innundated with AARP membership applications since) took the time to write and ask the AARP to NEVER send a membersip solicitation again because of their stance on healthcare reform.

It is past time for this anti-american communist organization to disappear. Our aged populous needs a pro-American organization to represent them.

Great graphic!
On Laura Ingram's show they had some spoof on nobama becoming a recluse and ended it with Biden wanting to take over, but was discovered to have “assberger’s syndrome” (from Denny Crane).

Its a page right out of their Alinski playbook and it's wipe the dem/libs out being made fun of.

A 60k drop is a start in the right direction lets hope it continues to a meaningful conclusion. I long ago recognized aarp for what it is, just a democrat propaganda outlet.

I have NEVER joined aarp, never will. I’m so GLAD to see that they are losing members, and hope they go the way of the buggy whip.
