The netroots agenda: War? What war?
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/15/2009 | Byron York

What's truly striking in Greenberg's poll is the degree to which the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have fallen off the progressive radar. I attended the first YearlyKos convention, in 2006, and have kept up with later ones, and it's safe to say that while people who attended those gatherings couldn't stand George W. Bush in general, their feelings were particularly intense when it came to opposing the war in Iraq. It animated their activism; they hated the war, and they hated Bush for starting it. They weren't that fond of the fighting in Afghanistan, either.

Now, with Obama in the White House, all that has changed. Greenberg presented respondents with a list of policy priorities and asked, "Please indicate which two you think progressive activists should be focusing their attention and efforts on the most." The winner was passing comprehensive health care reform, with 60 percent, and number two was passing "green energy policies that address environmental concerns," with 22 percent. Tied for eighth place, named by just eight percent of respondents, was "working to end our military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan."

Maybe it's time we started protesting Obama's involvement in Afghanistan, what with him having no objective, tying the hands of our military and weakening our forces with defense budget cuts.

It was never about protesting WAR, it was about protesting BUSH!

There are more troops in Iraq and Afghanistan (combined) under Obam than under Bush.

It was never the war, it was the (R) next to Bush’s name.

Liberalism/Progressivism is based upon Emotions. The Principals can change on a dime. Thus it is OK for Obama to send troops to Afghanistan, but not GWB. It is OK for Obama to tinker with Social Security, but not for GWB. Etc. Etc. Etc.

BTW, Bush never would have gotten away with calling police "Stupid". Obama gets a pass.

Exactly. Since our Alinsky-style response to health care reform has been effective, maybe we need to start targeting Obama’s war policies. Is it possible to do that without denigrating the military?

I’m so mad at the media for ignoring all the Afghanistan deaths since operation Tie-Their-Hands began, I want to bring some attention to it! What can we do?

Correct. The war, code pink, Cindy Sheehan, campaign finance reform, etc, etc, was/is NEVER about policy. It is always about getting Republicans into a position of vulnerability so that the marxists can leverage control. And this is always done with the direct complicity of the corrupt, state-run media.

Not a surprise. That’s why every major war of the twentieth century was started by a Democrat, from the time Woodrow Wilson ran on a peace platform and then entered WW I.

They get a free pass, but Republicans don’t. They are Warriors for Freedom, like FDR or JFK, while any Republican who ventures into a war is a Warmonger.

Bill Clinton bombed Iraq regularly and started several wars. When he bombed Belgrade, everyone cheered.

Obama could probably bomb Canada, and they’d all cheer him on.

They want to keep whistling past Afghanistan. There is an old story, be careful what you wish for. Obama only needed to study history and realize that men far greater than he both in past and modern times got tired of beating their head against the wall in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is a tough nut to crack and Obama ran on this being the “right war.” Maybe he should have listened when the previous admin stated we broke Al Quada in Iraq. If there is not a significant Al Quada presence in Afghanistan you would think liberals would be asking why we are there. Hypocrisy rules among these people.

Our local Gannett rag used to post the obits for every soldier killed overseas during the week in the Sunday edition. They stopped completely when Urkel took office.

” Maybe it’s time we started protesting Obama’s involvement in Afghanistan, what with him having no objective,
tying the hands of our military and weakening our forces with defense budget cuts.”

Where are the Republicans ?
Barry puts the welfare of Afghan civilians over the lives of US soldiers with his crap ROE.
When civilians are involved-we have to back off .
The USAF is buzzing Taliban to disperse them-
like they’re an unruly crowd at a Town Hall.

” A new military approach in Afghanistan may mean buzzing rather than bombing the enemy, according to the general taking over the air war there.

It’s known as irregular warfare, designed to protect local people and then enlist their help defeating Taliban insurgents, Air Force Lt. Gen. Gilmary Hostage said Thursday.

“The first thing we do is fly over head, and the bad guys know airpower is in place and oftentimes that’s enough. That ends the fight, they vamoose,”

Vamoose ..so they can regroup, later.
The Barry strategy is the hope that Afghan civilians will turn on the Taliban
and not allow them to hide among them.
How many Marines and soldiers will die so Barry doesn’t offend the locals ?

General Hostage quoting General McChrystal
“If you are in a situation where there’s a civilian at risk,
he’d rather have us back away than pressing to engage the enemy
and run the risk of damaging or hurting somebody.”

Oh God no, we wouldn’t want to do that it a war.
But, he’ll dispatch his thugs to Town Halls to rough up the locals.
Go figure.

So turnabout is fair play. Let’s make Afghanistan be one of many things that costs the Dims the election in 10.

Everyone needs to write their newspapers and ask where is the outrage, the Op-eds decrying the war in Afghanistan? We lost 40+ soldiers in July and have lost 11 in August. We only lost a little over 100 in all of 08.

So where is the outrage that we are already on a pace to ‘DOUBLE’ casualties in Afghanistan under Obama as CIC?

Rally around the troops, but let’s blister the hypocrisy of the DIMS and their minions in the media and the blogosphere. I love the Naked Emperor News’ video of Pelosi praising the war ‘disrupters’.

http://www.breitbart.tv/06-flashback-pelosi-tells-anti-war-protesters-im-a-fan-of-disruptors/

Let’s give her what she wants for our patriots in harms way and be disruptive about the war in Afghanistan.
