Weather stations give flawed temperature data, meteorologist claims
Washington Examiner ^ | Aug. 6, 2009 | Kevin Mooney

Researchers who have inspected climate monitoring stations across the U.S. have found that almost 90 percent of the weather monitoring stations have failed to meet National Weather Service requirements. Anthony Watts, a retired meteorologist, and a team of over 650 volunteers, photographically documented 1003 out of 1,221 of the climate monitoring stations managed by the U.S. Weather Service. The results of this survey show that the temperature cited as proof of man-made global warming is laced with false biases in favor of alarmism.

“We found stations located next to exhaust fans of air conditioning units, surrounded by asphalt parking lots and roads, on blistering-hot rooftops, and near sidewalks and buildings that absorb and radiate heat,” Watts said. “We found 68 stations located at wastewater treatment plants, where the process of waste digestion causes temperatures to be higher than in surrounding areas.”

Like relying on the temp gauge in a black car in Florida for accurate temp readings.

It is not a claim, it is a fact. You put a thermometer close to a heat source and it will give a higher reading.

This won’t stop efforts at AGW legislation such as cap & trade.

AGW legislation isn’t about so called “Man-made Global Warming.” It’s about higher taxes, government control of the economy, & loss of US sovereignty.

When I was young one could rely upon what the government published and advised. Today, “they live and love the lie!” Crime statistics, weather statistics, budget figures are all cooked or suppressed. They cannot help it. It is Aristotelian in its scope: i.e. the governors very essence their nature is badness in that they lack truth. They are BAD people.

It's fairly certain that the people who placed them there understood this would yield false readings.

The funny thing about this is that this investigation was probably triggered by a teenage girl's report, in a Jr. High School science class. She took a picture of her local station, and posted it on the Web.

The weather station was right next to a burn barrel. This set off alarms, and many skeptics started investigating stations sited near them. I'm glad to see that they got organized and did a comprehensive investigation.

It looks like the bias is far worse than anyone would have imagined.

Or so we thought. The food pyramid comes to mind.

In many cases, they were in fine locations, which then were overtaken by progress. In other cases, they were in fine locations but were moved to less intrusive nearby places, which almost always are near heat sources.

This seems a bit more than coincidence.

Besides there is honest error, and then there are damn lies. You know that lies are today’s rule.
