And then one of our moderators spotted this:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/18018714/Fake-Obama-Kenya-birth-certificate

It has several clues, but also there's this question:

Who is E. F. Lavender?

Earth Friendly Lavender detergent?

But this all by the way. The clincher is in the top left corner. See the “7s 6d”? That’s the issue fee - seven shillings and sixpence in old money.
Except Kenya never used shillings and pence. Shillings and cents (strange hybrid, I know) was the legal currency, and that fee should read something like “Sh. 7/50” (if I remember from my distant childhood).

The currency thing nails it. 100% fake.
++++++++++

This seems to shed some light on what you are saying - there was a mixture of Indian and British influence on Kenyan currency. However, what’s unclear is what the partial shillings were as of Feb. 1964 - before Kenya started printing and minting it’s own independent currency.

So from your distant childhood - might the British style currency have been operative between 1922 and say 1966?

http://www.centralbank.go.ke/Currency/CurrencyHistory.aspx
THE EAST AFRICAN SHILLING
On January 1, 1922 the shilling equivalent was introduced in all the three East African countries and by June 1923, the E.A. shilling was firmly established as official currency in Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika.

CURRENCY AFTER INDEPENDENCE
In 1964 after the independence of Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika, there was a desire to establish a common East African Central Bank. Interim currencies were therefore introduced by the EACB to circulate within the region. For banknotes, the interim currency was commonly known as the Lake Victoria Money because of the background of Lake Victoria on the notes. The Lake Victoria designed notes were in the denominations of 5, 10, 20 and 100 shillings. There were also a number of coins minted and referred to as the “Uhuru” coins since they too had no head or monarch on them.

ADVENT OF THE KENYAN SHILLING
Kenya began printing and minting its own currency in 1966 under the mandate given to the Central Bank of Kenya in the Central Bank of Kenya Act cap 491. The initial issue of Kenya shilling notes were in the denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 shillings, all bearing the portrait of the First President of Kenya, H.E. Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in the front, and diverse scenes of economic activities in Kenya at the back. Denominations have progressively changed since then. Current denominations of banknotes and coins in circulation are as follows:- Coins – 5cent, 10 cent, 50 cent, 1 shilling, 5 shilling, 10 shilling, 20 shilling and 40 shilling Notes – 50 shilling, 100 shilling, 200 shilling, 500 shilling and 1,000 shilling. More details on the History of Kenyan Currency can be found by contacting the Bank.

Still unknown regarding American citizen since we do not have a record of when or iof he ever legally changed his name from Barry Soetoro to Barack Hussein Obama. Sometime between 1980 and Columbia University he began using barry Obama and Barack Obama, but we have yet to find a legal document where he made the naem change legally. When he applied for the IL bar, he swore that Barack Obama was the only legal name he ever used. Clearly, that is worng or his mother gave false pleading to the Court regarding her divorce.

So far as I can make out Mombasa was nominally a part of the Sultanate of Zanzibar until 1963, but was leased by the British and administered as a part of the Kenya colony starting around the turn of the 20th century.

It doesn't look like the Kenya-Zanzibar question is really a problem for the document, but to say that the confusing history makes it MORE likely to be genuine is going way too far.

I tend to agree with Thon, AndrewPPP-—and Karl Rove, that this unfortunately is likely a fake.

The man from Belfast has some solid information. It’s best to cut losses and refocus if it is a fake.

Welcome. Our first Kenyan troll?

We need an example of a Kenyan BC in general, and from the coast region from Dec 1963-Jan 1964 in particular. It is safe to say that no current Freeper has an example to share with us, so if someone does it may be a new sign up who was unaware of FR until this Kenya BC hullabaloo arose. The new sign up is likely to be from outside the U.S. as well.

If someone offers to post an actual image of a vintage Kenyan BC, we should be welcoming and encouraging, rather than making troll accusations because maybe the BC they have, or their Kenyan recollections, don't tally with the Kenyan Obama BC in question.

The quicker this document is confirmed to be real, or found to be fake, the better.

Hey troll, did you sign up to badmouth Orly Taitz?

People who disagree with Taitz aren't automatically trolls.
Back off.

I am not ready to decide my opinion one way or the other. I’m busy pursuing another trail which points in a very different direction than Kenya.

I don't care where the BC comes from. If Saul Alinsky signed up to FR from Hell, and offered to post an actual image of a circa February 1963 coast region BC he got from a fellow Hell denizen, we should say "Sure"!

The only Kenyan coins at this coin collection site are pre 1922 and post 1966...hmmmm...

Do you suppose the East African protectorates used British money until they printed/minted their own?

"Barry was an Indonesian citizen in 1980 when his mother made pleading in her divorce to the court that TWO legal children were in the marriage to Lolo Soetoro, with one being a minor (Maya) and one over eighteen (Barry) in need of financial assistance for education. Barry, by entering Occidental as an Indonesian citizen abrogated his American citizenship and could only then regain it via statute appeal."

You're mixing your fruits and your vegetables. Obama has no control over his mother's pleadings in a foreign court, much less a foreign family court over matters of financial responsibility for adopted children (minor children or adult children), even if those pleadings go to financial burdens that surround his own educational needs. I would say that whatever Stanely Ann Dunham claimed in divorce proceedings would be irrelevant to Obama's status as a US citizen.

I don't know if he entered Occidental as a "foreign" citizen, as you proclaim. It's possible, but I haven't seen any proof that would substantiate that claim. If he did do that, it could be taken as a voluntary renunciation of his US citizenship. I say could because I'm not familiar with the specific case law with respect to this issue, and the statute that governs loss of nationality, Title 8 § 1481, doesn't address this particular circumstance.

Having said that, it should be understood that the US recognizes, albeit only through silence on the matter, dual citizenship. US law doesn't mention it specifically, but State Department regulations are written to accommodate people with dual citizenship claims. And, these State Department rules would perhaps be informative in this case. I would think however, people who did claim dual citizenship, either actively or passively, would be forfeiting their right to claim the status of "natural-born" citizen. But, it's only an opinion.
