He's become a publicity nightmare for CNN, embarrassed his boss and hosted a show that seemed to contradict the network's "no bias" brand. And on top of all that, his ratings are slipping.

How does Lou Dobbs keep his job?

It's not a simple answer. CNN insists it is standing behind Dobbs, despite calls for his head from critics of his reporting on "birthers" - those who believe President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States despite convincing evidence to the contrary.

The "birthers" believe Obama was born in Kenya, and thus not eligible to be president.

Dobbs' work has been so unpopular that even Ann Coulter has criticized him.

Dobbs has acknowledged that he believes Obama was born in Hawaii. But he gives airtime to disbelievers, and has said the president should try to put questions fully to rest by releasing a long version of his birth certificate.(continued)

Jon Klein, Lou’s boss, pushed a blatant lie trying to squelch Lou. Have we any doubts that CNN is so far up Axelgreasy’s butt that the sun don’t shine? Lou needs to matriculate over to FOX News and boot that idiot Shep over to fairyland with Anderson Cooper.

Of course Dobb's ratings would slip ... initially. CNN has pushed Conservatives away for years. It seems the only folks these days regularly watching CNN are die-hard kool-aid drinking liberals. The "birther" issue doesn't appeal to them ... unless of course the context is to frame "birthers" as kooks. Dobb's ratings are bound to have a negative bump in the short run. But in the long run, this might well mark the return of some conservative viewership to CNN. I am anxious to see how the numbers pan out on this myself. Like others, I wouldn't mind seeing Lou Dobbs over at Fox --- but I wouldn't give up Neil Cavuto for him :-)

Hannity? ( not much from him and the little bit he did say, he got wrong on Maj Cook.)

OReilly? Coulter? Malkin? Shep Smith? What has Beck had to say?

It seems to me that the upper management of Fox is crushing discussion of Obama’s natural born status.

I don't hear much about the natural born status of Obama coming from Fox. If Lou went over to Fox they very well might muzzle him, too.

The best comment I heard on the ‘birthers’ is that if there were anything behind this; don’t you believe that the Clinton Machine would have used it during the election run-up? She wanted the Democratic candidacy, and was shocked to lose to Barak.

That said, all Obama has to do to shut the ‘birthers’ up is produce a birth certificate; or open his college papers up and show how a poor single mother financed a Harvard law school student (foreign scholarship assertion). All Obama has to do is show his papers, and that will rip the rug out from under the ‘birthers’ and make them look pretty foolish. The problem is Obama’s creation, he can end it instantly, at any time.

I would pay good money to watch Lou actually say that but the fact is, Lou is one of a dwindling breed, he is a gentleman.

some random thoughts... possibly muslim boy hussein and his goons had something equally damaging on the ‘beast and they both by mutal agreement made the decision to not bring those two stories up/out, and slug it with whatever else they had to campaign with. another thought to is that if it came down to some SERIOUS biz, the chicago political thug machine vrs. the clinton’s arkincide group, husseins goons would win via a first round knockout, and that the clintons knew that little fact of life.

I don’t know what Ann’s problem is the past few months but she seems to have changed. It’s weird.
