Obama, the African Colonial
American Thinker ^ | June 25, 2009 | L.E. Ikenga

Posted on 06/24/2009 10:54:57 PM PDT by neverdem

Had Americans been able to stop obsessing over the color of Barack Obama's skin and instead paid more attention to his cultural identity, maybe he would not be in the White House today. The key to understanding him lies with his identification with his father, and his adoption of a cultural and political mindset rooted in postcolonial Africa.

Like many educated intellectuals in postcolonial Africa, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. was enraged at the transformation of his native land by its colonial conqueror. But instead of embracing the traditional values of his own tribal cultural past, he embraced an imported Western ideology, Marxism. I call such frustrated and angry modern Africans who embrace various foreign "isms", instead of looking homeward for repair of societies that are broken, African Colonials. They are Africans who serve foreign ideas.

The tropes of America's racial history as a way of understanding all things black are useless in understanding the man who got his dreams from his father, a Kenyan exemplar of the African Colonial.

Before I continue, I need to say this: I am a first generation born West African-American woman whose parents emigrated to the U.S. in the 1970's from the country now called Nigeria. I travel to Nigeria frequently. I see myself as both a proud American and as a proud Igbo (the tribe that we come from -- also sometimes spelled Ibo). Politically, I have always been conservative (though it took this past election for me to commit to this once and for all!); my conservative values come from my Igbo heritage and my place of birth. Of course, none of this qualifies me to say what I am about to -- but at the same time it does.

My friends, despite what CNN and the rest are telling you, Barack Obama is nothing more than an old school African Colonial who is on his way to turning this country into one of the developing nations that you learn about on the National Geographic Channel. Many conservative (East, West, South, North) African-Americans like myself -- those of us who know our history -- have seen this movie before. Here are two main reasons why many Americans allowed Obama to slip through the cracks despite all of his glaring inconsistencies:

First, Obama has been living on American soil for most of his adult life. Therefore, he has been able to masquerade as one who understands and believes in American democratic ideals. But he does not. Barack Obama is intrinsically undemocratic and as his presidency plays out, this will become more obvious. Second, and most importantly, too many Americans know very little about Africa. The one-size-fits-all understanding that many Americans (both black and white) continue to have of Africa might end up bringing dire consequences for this country.

Contrary to the way it continues to be portrayed in mainstream Western culture, Africa is not a continent that can be solely defined by AIDS, ethnic rivalries, poverty and safaris. Africa, like any other continent, has an immense history defined by much diversity and complexity. Africa's long-standing relationship with Europe speaks especially to some of these complexities -- particularly the relationship that has existed between the two continents over the past two centuries. Europe's complete colonization of Africa during the nineteenth century, also known as the Scramble for Africa, produced many unfortunate consequences, the African colonial being one of them.

The African colonial (AC) is a person who by means of their birth or lineage has a direct connection with Africa. However, unlike Africans like me, their worldviews have been largely shaped not by the indigenous beliefs of a specific African tribe but by the ideals of the European imperialism that overwhelmed and dominated Africa during the colonial period. AC's have no real regard for their specific African traditions or histories.  AC's use aspects of their African culture as one would use pieces of costume jewelry: things of little or no value that can be thoughtlessly discarded when they become a negative distraction, or used on a whim to decorate oneself in order to seem exotic. (Hint: Obama's Muslim heritage).

On the other hand, AC's strive to be the best at the culture that they inherited from Europe. Throughout the West, they are tops in their professions as lawyers, doctors, engineers, Ivy League professors and business moguls; this is all well and good. It's when they decide to engage us as politicians that things become messy and convoluted.

The African colonial politician (ACP) feigns repulsion towards the hegemonic paradigms of Western civilization. But at the same time, he is completely enamored of the trappings of its aristocracy or elite culture. The ACP blames and caricatures whitey to no end for all that has gone wrong in the world. He convinces the masses that various forms of African socialism are the best way for redressing the problems that European colonialism motivated in Africa. However, as opposed to really being a hard-core African Leftist who actually believes in something, the ACP uses socialist themes as a way to disguise his true ambitions: a complete power grab whereby the "will of the people" becomes completely irrelevant.

Barack Obama is all of the above. The only difference is that he is here playing (colonial) African politics as usual.

In his 1995 memoir, Dreams From My Father -- an eloquent piece of political propaganda -- Obama styles himself as a misunderstood intellectual who is deeply affected by the sufferings of black people, especially in America and Africa. In the book, Obama clearly sees himself as an African, not as a black American. And to prove this, he goes on a quest to understand his Kenyan roots. He is extremely thoughtful of his deceased father's legacy; this provides the main clue for understanding Barack Obama.

Barack Obama Sr. was an African colonial to the core; in his case, the apple did not fall far from the tree. All of the telltale signs of Obama's African colonialist attitudes are on full display in the book -- from his feigned antipathy towards Europeans to his view of African tribal associations as distracting elements that get in the way of "progress".  (On p. 308 of Dreams From My Father, Obama says that African tribes should be viewed as an "ancient loyalties".)

Like imperialists of Old World Europe, the ACP sees their constituents not as free thinking individuals who best know how to go about achieving and creating their own means for success. Instead, the ACP sees his constituents as a flock of ignorant sheep that need to be led -- oftentimes to their own slaughter.

Like the European imperialist who spawned him, the ACP is a destroyer of all forms of democracy.

Here are a few examples of what the British did in order to create (in 1914) what is now called Nigeria and what Obama is doing to you

  1. Convince the people that "clinging" to any aspect of their cultural (tribal) identity or history is bad and regresses the process of "unity". British Imperialists deeply feared people who were loyal to anything other than the state. "Tribalism" made the imperialists have to work harder to get people to just fall in line. Imperialists pitted tribes against each other in order to create chaos that they then blamed on ethnic rivalry. Today many "educated" Nigerians, having believed that their traditions were irrelevant, remain completely ignorant of their ancestry and the history of their own tribes.
  2. Confiscate the wealth and resources of the area that you govern by any means necessary in order to redistribute wealth. The British used this tactic to present themselves as empathetic and benevolent leaders who wanted everyone to have a "fair shake". Imperialists are not interested in equality for all. They are interested in controlling all.
  3. Convince the masses that your upper-crust university education naturally puts you on an intellectual plane from which to understand everything even when you understand nothing. Imperialists were able to convince the people that their elite university educations allowed them to understand what Africa needed. Many of today's Nigerians-having followed that lead-hold all sorts of degrees and certificates-but what good are they if you can't find a job?
  4. Lie to the people and tell them that progress is being made even though things are clearly becoming worse.  One thing that the British forgot to mention to their Nigerian constituents was that one day, the resources that were being used to engineer "progress" (which the British had confiscated from the Africans to begin with!) would eventually run out. After WWII, Western Europe could no longer afford to hold on to their African colonies. So all of the counterfeit countries that the Europeans created were then left high-and-dry to fend for themselves. This was the main reason behind the African independence movements of the1950 and 60's. What will a post-Obama America look like?
  5. Use every available media outlet to perpetuate the belief that you and your followers are the enlightened ones-and that those who refuse to support you are just barbaric, uncivilized, ignorant curmudgeons.  This speaks for itself.

America, don't be fooled. The Igbos were once made up of a confederacy of clans that ascribed to various forms of democratic government. They took their eyes off the ball and before they knew it, the British were upon them. Also, understand this: the African colonial who is given too much political power can only become one thing: a despot.

Did Stanley Ann Dunham really work as an "au pair" in Chicago - and if so, then when and who for, and why... And how?

Can we get copies of her IRS records?

Would Stanley Sr IRS records help us determine when he moved to HI? THey may have been seperated or SADO may have stayed with friends of family to graduate.

I don't know what that would prove. I think it's fairly obvious that Stanley Armour Dunham was part of the welcoming committee when Obaba Sr arrived in Hawaii in June/July 1959. There is an image (undated photograph) further back in the thread.

It's interesting that Maya would say her grandmother had been in Hawaii since 1959:

Excerpt from The American Thinker
Article:
Obama, Black Liberation Theology, and Karl Marx
May 28, 2008

Just one nugget from the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, "Instruction on Certain Aspects of the ‘Theology of Liberation': "...it would be illusory and dangerous to ignore the intimate bond which radically unites them liberation theologies), and to accept elements of the marxist analysis without recognizing its connections with the (Marxist) ideology, or to enter into the practice of the class-struggle and of its marxist interpretation while failing to see the kind of totalitarian society to which this process slowly leads."--Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect, now Pope Benedict XVI; written in 1984

Understanding that black liberation theology is Marxism dressed up to look like Christianity helps explain why there is no conflict between Cone's "Christianity" [i.e. 'reverend Wright's thing] and Farrakhan's "Nation of Islam." They are two prophets in the same philosophical (Marxist) pod, merely using different religions as backdrops for their black-power aims.

The Real Story Behind Rev. Wright's Controversial Black Liberation Theology Doctrine
Monday , May 5, 2008
FoxNews/Hannity's America
[special Friday night edition--original airdate May 2, 2008]

(some key excerpts)

["(Jose) Diaz-Balart is the son of Rafael Diaz-Balart y Guitierrez (a former Cuban politician). He has three bothers, Rafael Diaz-Balart (a banker), Mario Diaz-Balart (a US Congressman) and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (also a US Congressman). His aunt, Mirta Diaz-Balart, was Fidel Castro's first wife."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jose_Diaz-Balart]

JOSE DIAZ-BALART, TELEMUNDO NETWORK: "Liberation theology in Nicaragua in the mid-1980's was a pro-Sandinista, pro-Marxist, anti-U.S., anti-Catholic Church movement. That's it. No ifs, ands, or buts. His church apparently supported, in the mid-'80s in Nicaragua, groups that supported the Sandinista dictatorships and that were opposed to the Contras whose reason for being was calling for elections. That's all I know. I was there.

I saw the churches in Nicaragua that he spoke of, and the churches were churches that talked about the need for violent revolution and I remember clearly one of the major churches in Managua where the Jesus Christ on the altar was not Jesus Christ, he was a Sandinista soldier, and the priests talked about the corruption of the West, talked about the need for revolution everywhere, and talked about 'the evil empire' which was the United States of America."

REV. BOB SCHENCK, NATIONAL CLERGY COUNCIL: "it's based in Marxism. At the core of his [Wright's] theology is really an anti-Christian understanding of God, and as part of a long history of individuals who actually advocate using violence in overthrowing those they perceive to be oppressing them, even acts of murder have been defended by followers of liberation theology. That's very, very dangerous."

SCHENCK: "I was actually the only person escorted to Dr. Wright. He asked to see me, and I simply welcomed him to Washington, and then I said Dr. Wright, I want to bring you a warning: your embrace of Marxist liberation theology. It is contrary to the Gospel, and you need, sir, to abandon it. And at that he dropped the handshake and made it clear that he was not in the mood to dialogue on that point."

Obama's Church: Gospel of Hate
Kathy Shaidle, FrontPageMag.com
Monday, April 07, 2008

In March of 2007, FOX News host Sean Hannity had engaged Obama’s pastor in a heated interview about his Church’s teachings. For many viewers, the ensuing shouting match was their first exposure to "Black Liberation Theology"...

Like the pro-communist Liberation Theology that swept Central America in the 1980s and was repeatedly condemned by Pope John Paul II, Black Liberation Theology combines warmed-over 1960s vintage Marxism with carefully distorted biblical passages. However, in contrast to traditional Marxism, it emphasizes race rather than class. The Christian notion of "salvation" in the afterlife is superseded by "liberation" on earth, courtesy of the establishment of a socialist utopia.

Catholics for Marx [Liberation Theology]
By Fr. Robert Sirico
FrontPageMagazine.com | Thursday, June 03, 2004

In the days when the Superpowers were locked in a Cold War, Latin America seethed with revolution, and millions lived behind an iron curtain, a group of theologians concocted a novel idea within the history of Christianity. They proposed to combine the teachings of Jesus with the teachings of Marx as a way of justifying violent revolution to overthrow the economics of capitalism.

The Gospels were re-rendered not as doctrine impacting on the human soul but rather as windows into the historical dialectic of class struggle. These "liberation theologians" saw every biblical criticism of the rich as a mandate to expropriate the expropriating owners of capital, and every expression of compassion for the poor as a call for an uprising by the proletarian class of peasants and workers.

From the article: REVOLUTIONARY HEROES

"On May 1st, May Day [1969], the day of the gigantic Free Huey rally, two of Alioto's top executioners vamped on the brothers from the Brown Community who were attending to their own affairs. These brothers, who are endowed with the revolutionary spirit of the Black Panther Party defended themselves from the racist pig gestapo.

Pig Joseph Brodnik received his just reward with a big hole in the chest. Pig Paul McGoran got his in the mouth which was not quite enough to off him.

The revolutionary brothers escaped the huge swarm of pigs with dogs, mace, tanks and helicopters, proving once again that "the spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology."

To these brothers the revolutionary people of racist America want to say, by your revolutionary deed you are heroes, and that you are always welcome to our camp."

She (Assata Shakur/Joanne Chesimard) is the godmother of late rapper Tupac Shakur. Also see Section 5, the Brinks robbery and triple murder. Tupac's stepfather (Joanne's brother) was deeply involved in that murder-robbery, in which two police officers and one Brinks security guard were gunned down in cold blood.-etl

ASSATA (aka Joanne Chesimard)

Perhaps the most wanted woman in the history of the United States.

Assata Shakur/Joanne Chesimard, was questionably arrested and sentenced for killing a cop in the infamous 1973 New Jersey Turnpike shootup of a car carrying Shakur, and two other Black Panthers, one of whom was also killed. Assata received three bullets in the attack. Sentenced to Life, she escaped in 1979 from maximum security prison in NJ to eventually emerge in Cuba under Fidel Castro’s protection as a political exile. Assata’s [Joanne Chesimard] writings and presence in Cuba have brought her a huge following as an icon, a heroine – the Che Guevera of Black Liberation – a freedom fighter to thousands of young peoples throughout the world. The State of New Jersey still holds a million dollar bounty on her head–wanted dead or alive!

When Stanley Ann Dunham discovered she was pregnant, did she board a Black Star Line Ship that sailed through the St. Lawrence Seaway, then crossed the Atlantic? Did she stay with the expat community in Ghana?

"The Black Star Line ceased sailing in February 1922."

This comes from Wikipedia which I wouldn't ordinarily trust but it is the same info I recently saw on "History Detectives" on PBS. Since the two agree I think it is probably correct.

I still think that Barak Jr is too light of skin to be the son of Barak Sr.

I don’t think so. Remember his mother was pale as a ghost, his “milk chocolate” complexion would seem about right.

I could go either way on the skin color but JR has NO features that resemble SR. SR has the sloped back Kenyan forehead, very dark skin, a wide and flat nose, and a small chin as well as being shorter and less lanky than JR.

JR has a high (not sloped) fore head, a prominent chin, light skin, a boney nose, and is taller and lankier than SR.

While some of these traits are modified by the mother’s genetic contributions, I would think JR would have at least ONE of SR’s traits but I don’t see it. JR’s chin, for example is the Dunham chin and identical to his mother’s and grandfather’s chins. There is nothing like that when I compare JR to SR in photos.

No need to look for airline schedules.

That wiki reference to the Black Star Line relates to MARCUS GARVEY. His story is somewhere back in this thread.

The Black Star Line that Nkrumah set up shortly after Ghana’s independance, comprised of 14 cargo ships, some of which also carried passengers.

Ayers has at least two brothers—John and Rick. I can’t find any information on John’s age but Rick was 2 years younger so he would have been 11 when Bill was 13. Maybe John would have been younger still. Is it possible she could have worked/spent time with the Ayers family in 1960 keeping the boys company and given the Dunham/Obama habit of exaggerating, called it being an “au paire”?

PREPARING FOR GROUP INTERVIEWS
Melanie S. Payne, Elrick and Lavidge, Inc.
ABSTRACT -

Proper preparation for group interviews is essential to achieve meaningful study results. Responsibility for conducting the groups should be given to a well-trained qualitative researcher whose job it is to understand the research objectives and how the results will be used. Other aspects of preparation include writing the discussion guide and supervising recruitment of respondents. Prior to the groups, decisions must also be made concerning where the sessions will be held and the type of audio or video recording that will be done.

PREPARING FOR GROUP INTERVIEWS

We have just heard from Al Goldman about the development of interviews and the way they are used, and shortly Myril Axelrod will discuss the procedures that should be followed when conducting groups. Once you have decided that groups are the proper research tool to use and before you actually run the sessions, considerable attention should be devoted to preparing for them. Because group interviewing appears to be such an easy thing to do and the process itself seems so casual, the important step of preparation is often neglected and left to chance.

NOTE: Below from New Zeal. It is long (and not new), but such strong, unbroken associations, I couldn't bring myself to snip.

David Axelrod was born in New York in 1955 to leftish parents Joseph and Myril Axelrod.

In the 1940s MYRIL AXELROD wrote for a left leaning magazine PM. Though not officially a communist publication, several Marxists (including labour editor Leo Huberman) and Communist Party members worked on the paper.

The Traditional Values Coalition reported March 4, 2008:
"Former Communist Eugene Lyons, writing in The Red Decade: The Stalinist Penetration of America, noted that PM’s staff included a former editor of the Daily Worker; another was former editor of The Communist; and a third was a leader of the Communist Youth League; a fourth was a Soviet government official; and a fifth was the former staff cartoonist for the Daily Worker, the official newspaper of the Communist Party, USA."

PM’s Washington, D.C. correspondent I.F. Stone was later identified as involved in Soviet Intelligence operations.

Incidentally one of PM’s writers, Earl Conrad, also wrote for the leftist magazine Negro Story, as did Frank Marshall Davis, the Communist Party member who was later to mentor the teen-age Barack Obama in Hawaii.

David Axelrod’s own mentor was a well known Chicago journalist/political activist named Donald C. Rose.

From the Chicago Tribune: "In his early years as a political consultant, Axelrod, following in the footsteps of his mentor, the political strategist Don Rose, carved out a reputation for himself as a skillful specialist working for local progressive candidates...says Rose. "I think he's a principled, generally progressive guy... .""

Axelrod first met Rose in the early 1970s while studying political science at the University of Chicago and working as a reporter on the Hyde Park Herald

Around that time Rose edited and co-owned a small newspaper called the Hyde Park Kenwood Voices. The paper's radical tone suited the neighbourhood. It tended to follow the Communist Party line campaigning for example to abolish the House Committee on Un-American Activities. The Voice's co-owner, the late David S Canter had personal experience with the committee, being hauled before it and named as a Communist Party member in the late 1960s.

Canter and Don Rose took the young David Axelrod under their wing. They took it upon themselves to "mentor" and "educate...politically", a the young journalist. Don Rose later wrote a reference letter for Axelrod that helped win him the internship at the Chicago Tribune which launched his career.

Rose was a member of a Communist Party front at the time, the Alliance to End Repression.

The Alliance was set up to abolish the Chicago Red Squad, the police unit charged with monitoring communist and radical organisations.

Rose's personal Red Squad file accused him of being a "member of the anarchists".

The Alliance's executive director was Communist Party member Richard Criley. Further Party members involved included Abe Feinglass, Jack Spiegel, Jesse Prosten and Norman Roth.

Other radicals active in the Alliance included former Communist Party member Milton Cohen (later a founder of Chicago DSA), Quentin Young, Timuel Black and Rabbi Arnold Wolf. All three went on to join or support DSA and to form close personal friendships with Barack Obama.

Quentin Young, incidentally became the family physician to both the Obama and the Bill Ayers/Bernardine Dohrn households.

Don Rose also went on to chair another Communist Party front, the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights, succeeding comrade Richard Criley.

Rose had been radical since the 1940s when he joined Henry Wallace's communist controlled Progressive Party.

In the '50s Rose was involved in the campaign for nuclear disarmament and in the '60s was involved in the civil-rights movement. He was Dr. Martin Luther King’s Chicago press secretary for several...[years?]

In 1968 Rose was asked to serve as press secretary to the Chicago Mobilization Committee---the Students for a Democratic Society/Communist Party influenced alliance that wreaked havoc at the Chicago Democratic Party Convention. It was during these violent times that Rose coined the famous phrase-"the whole world is watching"

Through the mobilization Committee Rose met Marilyn Katz, the SDS security officer for the demonstrations.

By the late 1970s Rose was linked to the Chicago coalition of former Trotskyists, Socialist Party members and communists that would in 1982 form Democratic Socialists of America.[DSA]

In 1982 David S Canter and nine others invited black Democratic Congressman Harold Washington to stand for the Chicago mayoralty. Washington had a long history with Chicago's communists and socialists. When he accepted, the Communist Party and DSA formed a multi-racial alliance behind Washington.

The alliance targetted black voters in a huge voter registration drive on the city's south side.

Rose, Katz and Canter all worked on the successful campaign and all later secured jobs in Washington's administration.

In 1987 Washington successfully re-stood, aided by a young political adviser named David Axelrod.

Though Washington died in office shortly after, the communist/socialist alliance lived on.

In 1992 the alliance elected the Communist/DSA friendly Carol Moseley Braun to the US Senate.

In 2004 it helped put Barack Obama into the same Senate seat. In 2008 it is campaigning hard to put Obama in the White House.

According to Salon January 2008:
"When Barack Obama was 22 years old, just out of Columbia University, he took a $10,000-a-year job as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago. It was a shrewd move for a young black man with an interest in politics..."

The politician who truly set the stage for Obama's rise was also a South Side congressman: Harold Washington, who was elected mayor of Chicago in 1983...In New York, Obama read about Washington's victory and wrote to City Hall, asking for a job. He never heard back, but he made it to Chicago just months after Washington took office...

Washington dropped dead of a heart attack in his second term. But the confidence he instilled in black leaders became a permanent factor in Chicago politics. His success inspired Jesse Jackson to run for president in 1984, which in turn inspired Obama, who was impressed to see a black man on the same stage as Walter Mondale and Gary Hart. Washington also strengthened the community organizations in which Obama was cutting his teeth, says Ransom.

Obama's Project Vote, which put him on the local political map, was a successor to the South Side voter registration drive that made Washington's election possible.

Chicago has two unique advantages, says political consultant Don Rose. First, it's in Cook County, which contains nearly half of Illinois' voters. Second, the local Democratic Party is a countywide organization. After Chicago's Carol Moseley Braun beat two white men to win the 1992 Democratic Senate primary, precinct captains in white Chicago neighborhoods and the suburbs whipped up votes for her in the general election.

"They had to go out and sell the black person to demonstrate that the party was still open," says Rose, who sees "direct links" from Washington to Moseley Braun to Obama.

Rose, Canter and Axelrod both worked on Moseley Braun's 1992 campaign. Marilyn Katz worked with Obama on Project Vote, the huge voter registration drive that ensured Moseley Braun's victory.

By the early 2000s Rose, Katz and another Obama associate and former SDS member Carl Davidson had formed Chicagoans Aainst the War in Iraq.

It was this group that organised the 2002 Chicago anti war rally where Obama famously came out strongly against the Iraq War.

The speech was a major turning point in Obama's career. Obama carefully consulted David Axelrod before staking out his position.

Katz incidentally is now an Obama fundraiser and an endorser of the Progressives for Obama website. Carl Davidson helped found the organisation moderates its website.

LOL: “nest of vipers.”

After Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo posted his “The Chicago Ouroboros” thread, I began to think only an MC Escher print could pictorially describe this monstrous cartel. I even looked - lol. Alas, could find nothing suitable.

excerpts:

1955: Frank Charles Laubach founded “Laubach Literacy International” (LLI) which was headquartered in New York State and serving Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean The objectives of LLI were to form partnerships for literacy, community development and peaceful social change. Dr. Laubach felt that World peace is a future ideal of freedom, peace and happiness among and within all nations. “The realization of world peace may also make the idea of individual nations obsolete.” LLI’s stated goal is identical to Marxism, which states that communism is the final stage in human society and is both classless and stateless.

The LLI was formed during an era when states required voters to meet minimum qualifications, such as passing literacy tests, in order to register to vote: a principal means by which southern states had prevented African-Americans from voting (to disenfranchise voters). Frank Laubach and Elijah Mohammed of the Nation of Islam both felt that minorities must learn to read to realize their goal of Pan-African social change. It is widely known that Malcolm Little (later Malcolm X), introduced to Nation of Islam (NOI) philosophy while in prison, spent his days memorizing the dictionary. In the context of illiterate blacks not being allowed to vote, LLI, NOI and Kenya became linked by their common goal to empower blacks to enact social change through literacy and advanced education.

Kenya to Hawaii

1959 Malcolm X travels to Middle East and Africa including Kenya. Malcolm X meets with Jomo Kenyatta (recently released from prison following his conviction on leading the Mau Mau Rebellion), Tom Mboya, and may have met Barack Hussein Obama Sr, who was Mboya’s close confident and fellow Luo tribesman both from Lake Victoria.

Due to a program offering Western educational opportunities to outstanding Kenyan students that was organized by nationalist leader Tom Mboya, Obama Sr. was awarded a scholarship in economics, and at the age of 23 (1959) he enrolled at the University of Hawaii. Initial financial supporters of the program included Harry Belafonte, Sidney Poitier, Jackie Robinson, and Elizabeth Mooney Kirk, a literacy advocate who provided most of the financial support for Obama Senior’s early years in the United States. Elizabeth Mooney Kirk worked in Kenya and in concert with Jomo Kenyatta and Tom Mboya. Kirk and Malcolm X, both New Yorkers, would have certainly met in Kenya. Kirk co-authored many books with Frank Charles Laubach, founder of LLI.

Aside: Contrary to Obama’s claims in speeches in January at American University and in Selma last year, the Kennedy family did not provide the funding for a September 1959 airlift of 81 Kenyan students to the United States that included Obama’s father.

(However, as you may already have noted, sourced research on the OBAMA AFRICAN COLONIAL thread shows clearly that Obama Senior was NOT on that first airlift. He had in fact, arrived in Hawaii some months prior to the first airlift landing at Idlewild.)

Post #131 "I think the Maseno school teacher may have been telling the truth when he said that Obama Sr went to the US after leaving Maseno school - because:

Obama Sr was married in 1954 at the age of eighteen, in a tribal ceremony to Kezia Aoko.

He had one child, a son, and Kezia was pregnant when Obama Sr left Kenya. Obama Sr was born in 1936. Left the school in 1953 at the age of 17, Married in 1954 at the age of 18. Arrived in Hawaii in 1959, aged approx 23...where was he during the intervening four or five years? I wonder... "

~~~~~~~~
Barack Obama Sr. & ProLiteracy
ProLiteracy's association with Barack Obama Sr. dates back to the late 1950's under the auspices of Laubach Literacy International, a global literacy nonprofit founded by literacy pioneer Dr. Frank Laubach. (In 2002, Laubach Literacy International merged with Literacy Volunteers of America to form the nonprofit ProLiteracy, the world's largest nonprofit adult literacy organization. More information is available here.)
In 1957, Elizabeth Mooney1, an American literacy specialist with a deep history working with Laubach Literacy International, traveled halfway across the globe to Kenya on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Mooney's job was to conduct a literacy campaign, the Kenyan Government Literacy Project 2, which included training teachers, conducting literacy classes and developing educational materials for the betterment of the country's men and women.
During her time in Kenya working on the Project, Mooney met a young student named Barack H. Obama who was the recipient of an economic scholarship received through a student program organized by Kenyan government leaders. The program offered Western educational opportunities to outstanding Kenyan students such as the young Obama.
The Government Literacy Project focused on providing the people of Kenya with the basic literacy and education skills they needed to both learn to read and learn the skills necessary to better their lives and the lives of their families. Obama, with oversight from Mooney, assisted with administrative duties in the Project office and provided insights into the literacy needs of his fellow Kenyans. Ultimately, Obama helped author adult literacy booklets in his native Luo language: one on health, another on agriculture and a final piece on citizenship3.
In 1958, Obama was ready to advance his education with the goal of mastering Western technology and bringing it back to help forge a new, modern Africa4. Obama worked with Mooney to write to universities in the United States regarding their application process and scholarship opportunities. With a letter of recommendation provided by Mooney and initial financial support from Laubach Literacy International 5, Obama's application to study economics at the University of Hawaii was accepted. He was admitted on a scholarship and started his studies in the fall of 1959.
During his time in Hawaii and in need of support as a full time student, Obama reached out to Laubach Literacy International for additional financial assistance. In the spirit of the organizational belief that it could help "build tomorrow's teams in centers and abroad" the organization awarded Obama a Fund Scholarship to support to his United States studies. The record of this funding was noted in the organization's 1961 Annual Report: "Barack Obama, from Kenya, is in an undergraduate program at the University of Hawaii. An honor student, Barack may come later to Syracuse for literacy journalism." 6 Because of her deep belief in his skills and abilities, Mooney also provided personal financial assistance to Obama to support his tenure at the University of Hawaii.
~~~~~~~~~~~

In 1956, at the age of 20 he moved to Nairobi, Kenya where he began working as a clerk. At this time while he was on vacation in Kundy Bay, Kenya he met a 16-year-old girl named Kezia at a dance. Kezia was so struck by him that she followed him back to Nairobi. Her father and brothers soon followed to try and force her to come back to Kundy Bay, but she refused. The two married in a tribal ceremony January, 1957. His family sent Kezia’s father 14 cows for her dowry. The following year the couple had their first son, Abongo.

thanks, that clears that up; he did work in Kenya, married in 1957 and left for Hawaii in 1959 by which time Kezia had one child and was pregnant again.

Much appreciated.
