President Barack Obama says the biblical command to "love thy neighbor as thyself" is as pertinent now as ever.

The president said Friday that an entire community suffers when some members cannot pay their mortgages or find jobs. He called on Americans to work together to build a better future for everyone, including immigrants.

This one comes to mind............

2 Corinthians 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

“an entire community suffers when some members cannot pay their mortgages or find jobs”

Collectivist propaganda.

Found it: (oops heard dear instead of near)
Deuteronomy 30:14

This is what he said:
Scripture tells us the word is very near to you , it is in your mouth and in your heart so that you may obey it.

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

What an apropos verse for the One to recite. Clearly, thy people refer to the lOrds voters, and sycophants, the rest be damned or, at least, have their wealth taken and distributed among the lOrds people.

Only the Evil One uses scripture to an evil purpose.

He uses it out of context.

Mark 12:29 Jesus( Yah'shua ) answered, "The foremost is,
'HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD;

Mark 12:30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART,
AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.'
[Deut. 6:4,5]

Mark 12:31 "The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'[Lev. 19:18]
There is no other commandment greater than these."

Don’t hate the man. We have a duty to love and pray for those whom wish to do us harm. That is not, of course, to say that we do not also have a duty to resist when such a person works to do harm... but we do so without hate in our hearts. Leave hate to those who insist on hating Americans.

With that said, you are dead-on correct about the Koran. Islam has never taught its adherents to “love thy neighbor.” More to the point: the teaching is actually unique to Christianity. The religion which comes closest to teaching this is Buddhism, but Buddhism teaches a disinterested “compassion” for all living things, which is actually quite different from the personal and involved love that is required of Christians.

The Koran itself teaches that Muslims have a social responsibility to one’s Muslim neighbors. Such is not based in “love” but rather in duty. Islam teaches that this duty does not extend to non-Muslims. Islam also teaches that unless non-Muslims are subjugated and in dhimmitude, they are oppressors of Islam which must be fought in secret and, when power allows, in the open.

This nonsense that all religions, at their heart, are the same is rooted in damned ignorance. I don’t say, “damned” flippantly but, rather, in much the same sense as C.S. Lewis once did - these attitudes damn us both in this life and in the life to come.

When I confronted a liberal “Christian”’s base worldview (her assertion that man is basically good) with the fact that Scripture is adamant to the opposite view, and never speaks to support that viewpoint,

her response was to declare that the Bible was “just written by angry men”.

Scripture, reality, and God’s natural law do not support or favor the liberal worldview.

I certainly hope that he read on... De 30:19 I call heaven and earth to witness this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Choose therefore life, that both thou and thy seed may live

problem is, his interpretation of the scripture is, if your neighbor is suffering, you should suffer too

Christian love isn’t supposed to be limited to one’s neighbors, is it?

“You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” Matthew 5:43-44

Video of speech
I was looking for the quote at the end of the speech and not the one in the posted article. I heard "dear" instead of "near" and it messed up my search.

Deuteronomy 30:14

This is what he said:

Scripture tells us the word is very near to you , it is in your mouth and in your heart so that you may obey it.

I certainly hope that he read on... De 30:19 I call heaven and earth to witness this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Choose therefore life, that both thou and thy seed may live

More relevant, and missed by 'the one,' is: 2 Thessalonians 3:10 (King James Version) For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

OK, I watched the video and get what you’re talking about now. The word you mentioned should be “near,” not “dear.”

Obama’s quote from the end of the video is from Deuteronomy 30:14 “No, the word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.” He seems to be quoting from the NIV (New International Version).

This small verse is extracted from a portion of scripture where Moses is giving the Hebrews the Lord’s word which they are to apply in the promised land. Moses is telling them they will receive blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience.

Here’s a bit more of the quote a bit of context:

Deuteronomy 30:13-16 (New International Version)

13 Nor is it [meaning the Lord’s command] beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” 14 No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.

15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

Hmmmm ... he was too busy to attend the National Prayer Breakfast, yet has plenty of time to attend the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast? “

Another narcissitic example of NObama and his Kenyan hypocrisy.

We cannot get ho\im out of the Oval Office soon enough.

3:10 is a good one, but read on. It talks about busybodies, and people who should earn their own bread.

11We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat.
