President Barack Obama says the biblical command to "love thy neighbor as thyself" is as pertinent now as ever.

The president said Friday that an entire community suffers when some members cannot pay their mortgages or find jobs. He called on Americans to work together to build a better future for everyone, including immigrants.

He ended his speech with what he said was scripture but, I could not find it in a bunch of Bibles. So, where did he get it from? Can't find a transcript of online video yet. Help!

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

Since he is the Messiah, you do realize he can create Scripture as he pleases? ;)

Yea, right. My neighbors and I are all going to come together and pay the mortgage on the condo unit in our building which is in foreclosure b/c the woman who bought it paid too much for it and couldn't afford it.

NOT!

He ended his speech with what he said was scripture

Obviously it wasn't Scripture.

He'd have burst into flames if it was.

Is he going to make taxation voluntary then?

Otherwise our ‘love’ for the rather well-heeled poor is in fact slavery.

Luke 10:25-28

25And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. 28And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

Hmmmm ... he was too busy to attend the National Prayer Breakfast, yet has plenty of time to attend the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast? Guess the Hispanics don’t see that they’re being pandered to. Plus, that line of scripture is a favorite of the liberal crowd to throw out when they mean “we’ll take your money and give to those who will get us reelected”. Kind of like the “turn the other check” line of scripture.

No, what made me furious is not that he quoted the Scripture but that he said that this concept, “Love they neighbor as thyself,” is common to all great religions. Please, show me where the Koran says this.

I hate this man. I used to think he was a genial incompetent but now I think he’s an evil sociopath.

No, that was the quote earlier in the speech. I am looking for the one at the end which had the words “word” and “dear” and did not show up when searching various versions of the Bible.

It is his selfish political nature to use the Bible only in advancing his pet political cause, redistribution.

How about citing what Proverbs says about ants?

So, money = love? I can’t love thy neighbor without handing over part of my paycheck?

Leviticus 19:18 partially quoted by Jesus in Matthew 22:38-40:

"This the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it; 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hand all the law and the prophets."

I love my neighbor and I want him to learn to be responsible for his own life and family finances.
