Biden: More Republicans will back final stimulus bill

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (Reuters) - Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he expected the final draft of the nearly $800 billion economic stimulus bill in Congress to attract support from Republicans who did not vote for it earlier.

Congress and the Obama administration reached a deal on Wednesday on a $789 billion economic stimulus package that mixes tax cuts and new government spending to boost the faltering economy. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said a final vote on the bill could come as early as Thursday.

Biden told a news conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he was confident the measure would garner support from some Republicans who did not back it earlier.

"It is my expectation that there will be Republicans who will vote for it, that there will be Republicans in the House and the Senate who have not voted for it before," Biden said.

***Biden: More Republicans will back final stimulus bill***

And what’s sad is he’s probably right. I hope they stand their ground though.

Either one of my chicken ass senators in Georgia (both tried to vote for the amnesty bill but got ‘reoriented’) votes for this and I’ll cross them off my votin’ list forever..

Based on what? The fact that they were locked out of the room for the negotiations? Dirtbag the Veep must think he’s still in charge of influential Senate Committees.

Why do you care if the GOP votes for it, Plugs? I mean, it’s going to be a rousing success, right? And that means you RATS can take all the credit. You’ve never had trouble taking all the credit before - what’s holding you back now?

After all — didn’t you “win”?

I'd be surprised if any in the House vote for it. I pray they hold their ground, so that when this thing tanks as it must, that they can put forth sane, free-market oriented plans to recover.

Shameful that the GOP in the Senate (particularly the three turncoats) did not maintain enough numbers to fillibuster this abomination to death.

Grassley, I understand.

But Cochran? (I assume you mean Thad Cochran, senator from MS?)

If Biden says it, it is probably wrong.

-- But Cochran? --

He and Grassley were the two Republican senators who were named as conference committee participants. Senator Gregg would vote for it if he was not nominee for Secretary of Commerce.

I was under the impression that Cochran’s conservative credentials were OK. Have I not been paying attention or something? What happened?

I was surprised to he that McCain was not backing the messiah’s plan, until a moment ago. I just received an e-mail from “friends of John McCain” asking for reelection campaign money. I replied with words I have not used for many years. There is no chance he will get any money from me this time. I hope many feel the same way. In fact, I would like to hear Rush or Hannity start supporting someone to replace him in the primary. Anyway, I am sure the only reason he is not kissing his friend “across the isle” rear ends on this one is because he is up for reelection next year.

I have been flaming my so called conservative republican house rep this week. He only won 52%-48% this past election in a strong conservative area because of his BS. I told him I was going to work my ass too the bone to defeat him next election. I would support another conservative to run his sorry butt out of office and send him back to his stinking little law firm. I told him he was a liar for calling himself a conservative and then voting with the stinking Marxists on issues. I told him they were not dimocrats. I told him they were communists.
