When Michelle Obama moves into the White House, she will inherit a title with no job description as the world watches to see how she performs...Surely the person in one of the most visible roles on the planet deserves a proper title and salary to go along with the intense demands of this most nebulous position, which is, in essence, a job.

But it’s got to be done the way cabinet elected official pay raises are done, ie pass now for future office holders. Nothing for the current.
Also, if it’s a real job with a real salary, we’ll expect a thorough investigation of the job holder, with continuous close monitoring to follow.

Look at the pay cut taken by Dick Cheney to take the VP slot. Bush took a big cut as well from his business income. It's part of the "public servant" end of the deal. Wasn't it Michelle urging her audience to eschew high paying corporate jobs in favor of low paying "service" jobs? What a hypocrite!

If the first lady received a paycheck would that subject her to all the disclosure laws that apply to the President?

The woman was making 300,000 a year after receiving a raise, which happened to coincide with a kind earmark from her then-senator husband.
